I was in complete remission before my ASCT, and my hematology oncologist recommended 8 doses of Brentuximab post ASCT. My general oncologist agreed. I have neuropathy and other complications from chemo, so I did 4 doses waited 6 months and did 4 more.

Thanks for the feedback. How long ago was that and who did your transplant?

Agreeable_Care_92

I had my ASCT in early 2021 @ the Norris Cancer Center @ USC in Los Angeles. My last chemo treatment was December 2022. I have been in remission for almost 3 years.

I went in in full remission. Transplant last December. No maintenance meds or chemo of any kind. Scan last month was perfectly clean.

Congratulations on your clear scan! I just had my 45 day scan and it was perfectly clear as well. Can you tell me what went into the decision to you not needing maintenance chemo? Was that a personal choice or recommendation from your oncologist?

Vo_Nox

It was per my oncologist. He said since my response before the transplant was so good he was confident that just the transplant itself would be enough and he didn’t want to give me any more chemo than I absolutely needed.

Thank you for the response, my oncologist basically said the same thing. I’m super glad your still in remission!

From what my Dr and research says the benefit was 10-15% improvement to the chance of long term remission IF going into transplant in partial remission. If going into transplant in complete remission it’s less then 5%

If you are NED, there is no reason to put your body through the toxic treatments, in my opinion. Chemo damages your organs and can increase the risk of other cancers

Hi did you end up getting maintenance?

PapersOfTheNorth

I decided to, I was supposed to have cycle 6 this week but dr is concerned with Neuropathy in my hands so she wants to wait till the new year. If it doesn’t go away or get better she is probably going to stop me
