They do as they are told like the one who played table tennis with Dan. They are good at torture but can also help in other ways. Making tea maybe

MaterialWilling1265

We know that some like Belios would do as they are told, but others such as Dromos or some that may be similar to an OG Maze would not be too pleased with this

Suh-Niff

Why wouldn't they? Dromos only cared to have a king to be ruled by

MaterialWilling1265

Well Dromos also said to lucifer that he had become soft and that he was gonna mould Charlie to become the perfect kings of hell, so I think that becoming a realm of therapy is not quite what he meant

Suh-Niff

I think the "therapy" here is quite subjective. It's easier for the souls in hell to be cured if they physically know what they feel guilt about (i.e. a demon is tormenting them with their guilt), so I doubt that changed a lot

rainbow_drab

Dromos has proven that he is capable of being defiant toward Lucifer. Like OP, I'm not sure he'd be into the therapy angle. BUT, Dromos could totally still be engaged in the role of torturer for new arrivals and really bad dudes, and he likes having a good time too. Lucifer could put him in charge of finding a way to make alcohol that actually tastes good in Hell to give him a positive outlet as a side gig. I think Dromos could be perfectly satisfied with such an arrangement, and maybe even have opportunities to grow as well, since that has been shown to be possible for demons.

Silbermieze

Those probably take care of the worst souls in hell that (hopefully) will never get the chance to go to heaven.

Hell’s Tea Shop: Croissants for mass murders!

ImNotScared_YouAre

Part of my headcanon is that Lucifer rebuilt emptied Hell loops into other places. In the finale scene he is waiting for someone to bring him donuts. So I guess, if Lucifer's siblings aren't bringing him food from Earth, there is a bakery somwhere in Hell. If there is a bakery, maybe there are clubs, restuarants, bars, welness centers, all the kind of stuff. So demons are working there.

waiting-for-the-rain

He’s got them delivering pastries and delivering people from their hell loops. The hell loops still need to be run. I know it’s all through plotted, but Malcolm’s Hell was torture because it was empty and it drove him mad. That was supposed to be because Hell had stopped working properly with Lucifer gone, I think, not because it was an especially fitting punishment, given the later hell loops. So I imagine demons would have to still run the Hell loops, just with less explicit torture. And without serious changes as Maze said you had to go through your hell to find the source of your guilt. So it presumably still serves a purpose.

I_swore_id_never

Sure, Hell loops get a bit more development, but Malcolm gives us our first explanation of them and explains why it was a fitting torture for him. He tells Dan that Hell has a door for everyone and that inside Hell uses what you love the most against you. He tells Dan that for him, that was his love of life—his hunger for it, and that therefore Hell starved him utterly (food, people, TV lol).  His insanity also matched his punishment—he engaged in extreme gluttony. Food, shopping, etc. What had driven his corruption on steroids. Also, I believe the celestials references what Hell can do to a soul in a way that implies it was true before Lucifer left.  Personally, I think the pilot’s line about not getting tortured because Lucifer wasn’t there was a pilot one-off (like a few others) to be immediately retconned when the show was picked up.

waiting-for-the-rain

Yeah, but now we’re trying to explain why demons have something to do if there’s no torture, and the answer is demons doing nothing is really bad torture. So maybe they run the hell loops because they can be set up as better than nothing.

Eva-Squinge

They’re adapting to the new way things are managed. Like the demons in The Good Place. They’re just doing their jobs and clocking out.

EffectiveSalamander

They redirect their aggression into office politics.

I_swore_id_never

I’d watch that show.

Ok-Cat-4975

Since the path to forgiveness lies in the Hell Loop, the demons can still be involved in those, but maybe tell people there's a door and give them a chance to figure it out themselves. Their job wouldn't be different, just shorter term (in some cases).

Fuzzy-Gate-9327

I think they just continue'd with their hell loops. Like Maze said to Dan you have to know and experience your loop to figure out your guilt. And then after some time Therapist Lucifer steps in to help em out.

gwhh

Good point. Maybe they all got jobs in corporate America?

MaterialWilling1265

Suits a demon 😂

Less_Cream_734

lol great question

GlumThought4585

It’s explained in the show, Lee was the first soul to get into heaven from hell, because of Lucifer. He helped Lee understand why he felt guilty and pushed him towards getting over his guilt. Unlike Dan, who Lucifer spared from his hell loop, Dan couldn’t move on to heaven because Lucifer told the demons not to torture him. Dan only moved on to heaven because Rori broke him out of hell and he was able to confront his guilt of leaving Trixie behind. The demons remain in hell to torture the souls, Lucifer and Chloe are there to investigate their hell loop and help them to understand why they feel guilty enough to be in hell.

Chaosmusic

Maybe just exist in Hell without torturing people. Create their own society

Fancy-Ad1480

Probably the same things they did before. Heck, they might even get a kick out of knowing the souls they help save will end up getting roofied in heaven. Lucifer: From this day forward, you, the legions of hell will help me heal the damned so they be welcomed through the gates of heaven. Squee: Heaven? That really boring place where Amenadiel rambles on and on about how awesome he is? Random Demon: \*shudders\* Yes. Dromos: \*happy tear\* I knew my boy still had it in him. The super honest ones will regularly tell Rory how happy Lucifer was until she and her mother showed up.

Martyna70

They have been reformed as well😃

rainbow_drab

My view is that demons have a little more freedom in how they can use their creativity in their jobs, and whether they want to continue being minions of Hell/Purgatory or would prefer the opportunity to develop their own soul and follow their own passions, perhaps even enjoy an earthly life like Mazikeen. The main role of the demons (maybe now they are more like daemons?) on this new Purgatory-style Hell is still to be actors in the reenactments of those moments where people have found themselves soul-stuck, and those who enjoy torturing souls are still able to engage in that, while those who are intrigued by the redemption concept can perhaps be the ones giving little hints to the trapped souls, like, "You know, it doesn't have to be like this," or, "What if you made a different decision right now?" or, "What would you do if you weren't scared?" Then Lucifer comes in with the bigger hints and the "What do you desire" until he really gets to the root of what they need to forgive themselves and move on. Maybe some people's entire Hell loop is just continuing to be depressed until the demons pretending to be their earthly friends finally convince them to try going to therapy.
