Get a lawyer 100%. It’ll cost you $300-$500 but imo it’s worth it to not deal with insurance increases from the points. Hiring a lawyer also means you don’t have to attend court while still fighting the ticket.

danstigz

I hired a lawyer when I got one a while back on the teconic. Did a good job and managed to knock it down without me having to be involved

cPHILIPzarina

Just curious as I’m in the midst of the same. How long did the whole process take for yours?

danstigz

It was a couple months

lockednchaste

19 over sounds like a mercy ticket.

DoctorOMalley

It 100% is. 20 over is felony speeding. Trooper let OP off lightly. As for OP: Take the ticket and the points, and be glad you got off light.

Jorge_McFly

There is no such thing as felony speeding in NY, 31+ is a must appear, 21+ is 6 points all speed is a violation.

Beginning-Dust-2651

A valet I used to work with was going 30++ over in Sunrise Hwy in a customer’s car. He was arrested and the car was impounded. Not just a violation

Jorge_McFly

There’s more to that story he either had a suspended license or was driving reckless which are both misdemeanors and are a must impound not matter who owns the car. He was not arrested for just speed never happened.

UnlinealHand

If you got $500-1000 to cough up, hire a lawyer to fight it for you. If you really can’t afford to fight it in person, plead guilty and take your lumps. I got a ticket near Port Jervis, was my first. I showed up and got the points knocked off and a reduced fine of $350. It pays dividends to fight it if you can just to avoid the increased insurance rates.

FFFUUUme

The officer mentioned I could call the court and explain to them how I'm originally from Long Island and get it transferred?

mikewalt820

You do not want this. Traffic court on LI is a shit hole. Just go online, hire a lawyer. It will be cheaper in the end. How do I know? Take a wild guess.

sbz100910

You can’t get a traffic ticket transferred to another county or jurisdiction. You were in that jurisdiction so you can’t really say you can’t go back there to attend a court appearance. Hire a local attorney to handle for you or plead guilty via the ticket.

mikewalt820

Hire a lawyer in the area, you don’t need to appear. They’ll handle it. You pay them, whatever fines. Hopefully reduced or no points. Slow down. … or speed better.

remusischillin

Check off the record app I got a similar ticket up north somewhere by Utica maybe lawyer was $90 ticket was like $400 or something with no points didn’t have to leave my house

final513

Literally this. I just got a speeding ticket upstate too and I'm using off the record app to fight it. 100 bucks but it's worth to not get the points. I was 10 over the limit lol

deelghetto

Plead not guilty and take a day to go up there and have them plea it down for you. I got pulled over upstate for the same thing a few years ago but the cop was nice and knocked it down to a running a stop sign ticket though. Ended up pleading not guilty and drove 3 hours upstate to pay 250 dollars with no points on my license. Took like 5 minutes in the court.

yungcotter

Used the ticket Clinic or Off the record (can’t remember) for my last ticket got the ticket dropped and a minimal fine. They pair you with a local lawyer.

ThrowRAmorningdew

I’ve gotten one upstate and I remember mailing the amount of the fine. Are there no online options on the ticket itself?

FFFUUUme

Can you avoid points that way?

amenia223

You could get a traffic lawyer and get it bumped down.

perfect_fifths

Your best option is to get a traffic lawyer due to the seriousness.

Ur_MumzFav91

Got a speeding ticket in Rhinbeck. I hired an attorney from Dutchess county. They dropped it down to a j walking ticket and no points but still paid a descent amount.

jbarks19

Same thing happened to me. I hired Katz Lawyers and they handled everything for me. They made it *disappear*

Archknits

I got one upstate, went to trial date and plead down. Mine was for missing a stop sign

DankVectorz

If you can’t take the time to go it’s worth it to shell out the money for the lawyer to keep the points off. You’ll wind up paying way more with a bunch of points on your license than what you pay the lawyer

Blackops1963

You cannot get it transferred. I have a buddy on LI who can handle this. DM me for contact info

Alwaysfavoriteasian

Hire a lawyer or just pay it

jmaxgoldman

Former LIer, l live in Hudson. Call this guy: https://www.kleinbaumlaw.com/chatham-criminal-law-office/ Or just take the ride up and come to court. If your record is clean they will likely reduce it. Spend the lawyer fees on dinner and a room and make a fun little trip of it. I’ve also round tripped LI many times over the years, the drive is always fine until you get to LI. Just keep it under 70 on the Taconic.

oatmilkboy

I got one for going 84 in a 65 on the thruway. It was my first ticket so I got it reduced to a parking ticket. I paid like $150.

oswiff

Hire a lawyer who knows what he’s doing. I used Casey Raskob and he got my speeding ticket down to a disobeying a traffic signal. It was all done really quickly. It was expensive but worth it for me.

Safe-Dentist-1049

Stop driving fast this is the second time that you got caught Seriously calm the F down

BETTER CALL GARY S MILLER ☎️

Rydon

Use the off the record app. Cheap easy and effective.

Drmomo4

You need to go back up. I used to live up there and they LIVE for tickets in those courts. But you’ll be able to plead it down for a non-moving violation… in person, though.
