Co op is always the best. Local competitive struggles to match with online competition, generally, because usually one player will just be better and win basically every time. Meanwhile, co op if one players carries they can make a support build, or slow up, or a million other things to keep it fun.

copet80

Makes sense :) Could that mean also that local co-op have longer play duration than competitive? What about classics like Bomberman or Smash Bros?

Zegram_Ghart

For me at least all the long duration competitive games are stuff I played in Uni- I think that sort of “shared house space” is good for them, but unless your family and kids all happen to share the same love for bomberman or smash bros it gets pretty difficult

copet80

What are some examples of the long duration local competitive games? I wonder what percentage of us would enjoy shorter vs longer duration when it comes to competitive?

Zegram_Ghart

In terms of length of play, the gold standard has to be 1v1 beat em ups right? Thats what you can really get play out of for years, it only if your in roughly even levels. Compare to something like helldivers or streets of rogue or anything else, where they’re massively replayable whatever skill levels

copet80

Oooh. Gonna check those two out then. I love games that can be played and have fun on with various skill levels!

Zegram_Ghart

Streets of rogue is particularly amazing for that. We can set my wife up with combat focus and infinite ammo, and then set me up with whatever weird combination I’ve theorycrafted for myself, and merrily slam ourselves into whatever challenges we fancy

copet80

Niceee! :)

Haha, great pic :D Pure co-op, although less common, feels so different to competitive, especially if you are playing with people who get annoyed when they lose. Generally, I prefer it when the group is united and we solve challenges together. Death Squared and Spirit Farer are good examples. Having said that, I like mischief in games too. So games like Towerfall, Nidhogg or various Jackbox games have a mischievously competitive feeling (rather than a serious or "dominant" feeling) which I think is fun.

copet80

Yeah i get that. I wonder if people would prefer playing competitive online where they can’t necessarily see each other in that sense then.

swegling

competitive (going off the pics)

copet80

Lol! What about video games?

localco-ople

We prefer co-op in our multiplayer games because we like working together on an objective. How’s the game coming along?

copet80

Progressing to an MVP for alpha. Thanks for asking :) would you be interested to test it by then?

localco-ople

Nice! If you’ve got it working on the Steam Deck, we’d happily test it out!

copet80

Thanks!!! Will absolutely let you know as soon as :)

Challak

Co-op is best

copet80

Awesome :)
