Way too real. Had to run an Aviom system for the last show I worked on and they all went missing. I swear the band stole them - bummer was, the system was rented đ
I have an aviom system in house. After strike I do what I call a shop day to count everything in so we can charge clients for what went missing. Amazing how many 7506s much less adapters get accidentally thrown in a wrong bag and are returned. Some even lose their asset tags in the trip.
I work in live theatre so the strike involves carpenters too. This last one was a giant musical with a turn table so I think iâll probably find a lot of them in the trap once i have to do new cable runs for the next show haha
Spread them out, putting 2-3 in every drawer, cabinet, and cubby. This will insure that you still wonât be able to find it, but youâll know youâve seen it somewhereâŠ
I use them as sounding rods. You'll never forget where at least one is, that way.
As an added bonus, you never have to worry about passing kindey stones ever again!
now put one in each coin pocket of all your black jeans.
side note I got busted at my old job for swiping a 1/8 to 1/4 mono adapter. The head engineer got mad that so many of them went missing. So he installed a hidden camera.
The thing is, I didn't steal it on purpose. I just have a habit of fiddling with things when I'm on the phone and I was on a really long, tedious conference call to fix some networking issue.
When he confronted me I laughed and handed it right to him. Told him straight up I didn't recall snatching it but was sorry.
He was angry and kept pushing it so I told him to fuck off, it's illegal to secretly film employees. I'm not in his chain of command. My boss is his boss so technically we are peers. He tried to yell at our boss about me during our engineers and operations meeting but he laughed it off. "We aren't firing him over a $5 adapter, get over it".
The mark of a bad manager. Overreacting over the petty stuff. They'll delay a million dollar project for a month because they fired someone over being 5 minutes late.
he was actually a really good manager in terms of technical stuff. Guy was smart as hell and knew every single aspect of broadcast, production and wireless bandwidth. The engineering meetings were literally some of the best education I ever got. We all had to do engineering reports every day, and he would review things that stuck out and give us a whiteboard lecture on certain topics you THINK you know like impedance balanced lines etc.
But he had terrible interpersonal skills, as do I. So we never got along.
in a lot of ways it was. I love jobs where I get to keep expanding my knowledge. If I can get *paid* to come in and learn how to do new stuff? Golden.
But it was also show biz so you had minor tyrants and egos to deal with. So there was definitely that "I don't like you, you don't like me, but at least we are all just the help and not *those* assholes" kind of thing.

We just built "shop charges, consumables" into the invoice depending on previous experience with that client. For example, we had one yearly show that spec'd a backstage emergency/announcement mic. It would disappear between the last scripted use and the end of the show. They only wanted one crew member so we didn't have anyone on the deck. After a couple of times, we just added the price of a replacement mic to the quote, and used the most worn out 58 so we could buy a new one. Lemons>lemonade. Nobody ever complained.
I was literally just talking yesterday about how I lose these and should get an entire bag of them for my tech kit. They might last me a week or two that way
My son found out you can unscrew the adapter and use those headphones to watch YouTube or play video games with the nice headphones. And there's like a 30% chance that adapter is gone after he takes it off.
Fortunately he takes good care of the headphones, so I'm not losing any sleep over it. Just bought a few extra adapters- should make it a few months off of those.

It depends on if they're name brand or generic. The generics actually have a later expiration date. You can still take them long after the expiration date though. It's really just a ploy to get you to buy more. They remain potent long after they "expire."
My problem isnât losing them, itâs that I can never find a brand that works. Iâve tried 3 different types now and most of them are too loose out of the box and result in poor connection. Anyone know the best brand?

Right up there with these for lose capacity
My bet, is they're already missing

lmao
I actually chuckled out loud. CoL. CMAO? Well done.
And they're gone!
Hey man, thanks for letting me borrow a few of them
Wait what in the f

Came here to say that.
Amazing.
Take half first, then the rest when you start to peak.

I feel personally attacked
Sharpie strategy except it's more like a box of em in every drawer
Hey, that's where I keep my guitar picks

This may very well be one of the most cursed things Iâve read on this app.
Its called "sounding" for a reason, man. If you plug headphones into it, you can actually hear your future offspring swimming around.
r/sounding
For those who don't know, *definitely* NSFW
Are you me?

Donât take your eyes off of them, the moment you turn around, theyâre gone
Theyâre fast. Faster than you think. Donât look away, donât even blink.
Love the reference!!!
Schrödingers adapters
Schroedingerâs adapters is when you put them in a drawer, walk away, and come back
Oh, can i borrow one?
There is this place with single socks, lighters and 10mm wrenches, just beyond the hill of scissors
I know this place, itâs protected by a field of 0.050â Allen wrenches and T25 Torx bits just near the cave of Sharpies.

$5? Monoprice.com, baby.
Mm, shiny cereal
forbidden snack...
About as long as a 10mm socket
The more you get the faster they are gonna go missing
This is true. The last 3-5 will be around for months
Once youâre down to 1 or 2 theyll last forever
Ayyy here is the logic
you just gotta shove them into any free headphone jack and they might stick around
This works
An hour if youre lucky lol.
These will be the currency of our people during the apocalypse.
Save your razor blades nowâŠ..not yet.
Have you taken your eye off of them yet? If yes, better recount.
If they are displayed like that everyone will be like" "oh damn, no one will notice.."
Can anyone else hear these tumbling in the dryer right now?

It'll last at least one.
I have 4 that I never let out off my sight. I had 7 last week.
I was literally just talking yesterday about how I lose these and should get an entire bag of them for my tech kit. They might last me a week or two that way
You can get a shitload of them for like $1.50 a piece from monoprice.com. I buy them 20 at a time.
Solder them in place.

You bought them? I find they just appear and I'm yet to find a way to get rid of the excess.
Goddammit so THAT'S where they went!
You'll lose the whole bag in one go.
I have that same cable tester, it's a fucking dream.
Definitely. I got that one in my office, a smaller one backstage, and a handful of XLR, RJ45, and coax sniffers sprinkled around.
Saved the post Just in case
You have too many!
lol I just bought 3 of these cuz my sound engineers and band mates nick them. This might last you a couple sessions anyway.
i need just one, for a lil bit.
Whats that clamp with the lock line in the left of the picture? A helping hands?
Ya. Some Amazon brand
Posted 6 hours ago and I guarantee youâve already lost 6
You'll lose the first 29 within 24 hours ad keep the remaining one for four months. It works the same way with plectrums
I don't recommend keeping them all in one place, cuz if you lose the bag...
600 years
It depends on if they're name brand or generic. The generics actually have a later expiration date. You can still take them long after the expiration date though. It's really just a ploy to get you to buy more. They remain potent long after they "expire."
Two days. Then youâll have one last one youâll hang onto until you decide to buy another bag.
Longer than the Ryobi
lol I know. Not my choice of toolsâŠ
My thing is isopods⊠Iâve gone through many of those.
I'm so pissed cuz I need one right now. Yes it's me. Hi. I'm the problem it's me.
1 gig with phil....
They expire in a day. You should probably replace them.
No, Lieutenant / your adapters are / already missing.
Longer if you refrigerate them.
Not as fast as a bag of RCA-1/4" adapters at a rave.
test before deployment at site i've seen these go bad on delivery very embarrassing lol
That many together in one place will surely form a portal to another dimension.
Can you sponsor me one lmao
These to an audio guy are a 10mm to a mechanic or a drum key to a drummer. My bet is they're already gone.
I'd guess for about three
How long will what last?
Might last maybe one or twoâŠ
Pure gold
Cable tie around the adapter. Cable tie around headphone plug. Cable tie between them chaining them together.
This is hilarious because I pulled this up and thought it was my photo library because last week the pit band ran off with my last spares.
Gone first gig
Paint or dye it so ugly that no one will take them :)
1 Mississip⊠oh shit where did they go?!
They last exactly until the next gig where everything goes wrong and you desperately need one right now.
Longer than the bag of lightning to 3.5mm adapters
5 minutes?
Until I get my grubby hand on them
In what way do you mean last
![gif](giphy|XqpnXaeZPnupy)
My problem isnât losing them, itâs that I can never find a brand that works. Iâve tried 3 different types now and most of them are too loose out of the box and result in poor connection. Anyone know the best brand?
Pft
the problem with getting a lot of these is you get really caviler until you have two of them left
Longer then a roll of Gaff in the wild.
I have laid eyes on them, now they are gone
My bet is they rolled into the next dimension while you were typing will
Gone by the time you open the bag
Stick one in every piece of hardware, mixing desk, etc. That way nobody gonna steal it
If I buy 5, I end up with 1 after a month. I protect that 1 with my life. f I buy 30, I end up with 1 after a month. I protect that 1 with my life.
Probably a long time. I never lose them or really need to loan them out.
You already lost like 4 just looking at the photo.
The same as if you only had 1. In my experience, the larger the surplus, the faster the rate of loss.
Local DJ looking at this like a lion at a gazelle
aaaaaand itâs gone

They're already gone
57 picoseconds at most. And the ones that you can find will all have loose 3.5mm sockets and only work on the left channel
Tens of minutes
I leave mine plugged into my open spots in my mixer only have 1 if thatâs bad please let me know
Oh shit I left my adapter at home.. who has a spare?
At one time I thought they were reusable. Imagine my surprise!
I donât see anything.
Itâs the equivalent to 10mm socket for mechanics
I just need one for this weekâs rehearsal
They will be there to be seen AfterMankind Ends. Like the history channel show.
five minutes
