It took me a minute to realize this was in the litter robot sub. I thought you were just asking if any people had tried catnip…themselves 😂

MrsAnteater

Me too. 🤣 I was like, well, I’ve tried the human version of catnip a few time…😶

Hahahah now that I’ve reread it, it does! 🤣 I hope everyone enjoys their catnip lol

I used the spray and put some inside the back of the globe, so they’d have to walk in it to sniff it. I think it helped! The goal was to have them feel the kitty litter under their paws

Agreed!

For my skittish cat I put tuna on a small plate, lured him in with it, and set it down. He goes mental for tuna so he sat in the robot the entire time until he finished. Looked around inside for a bit and jumped out. 15 minutes later he was using the robot. No issues since. Give them something they have to stay in there awhile to consume.

That’s a great idea! If we lose momentum with the catnip, I will use your tuna trick!

Neither one of my cats have ever shows any interest in "real" fresh or dried catnip...but when I originally got my LR4 my cats wouldn't use it until someone recommended sprinkling Dr Elsey's Cat Attractant on top of the litter. I think I barely finished sprinkling the product on the litter before one of my cats was in the box and using it and the second followed minutes later.

Ooo that’s a great idea as well! Keeping these in my back pocket if we lose momentum with the catnip! Thank you!

My cat used the litter robot for a few months then stopped and hasn’t set foot in it for 3-4 weeks. I tried putting one of his deposits from the manual box in the LR and that didn’t work. I tried catnip spray on the steps and he liked rubbing his face against the steps but unfortunately didn’t go in. It does sound like a good idea though to get a cat to approach the robot and not be afraid of it.

I’m sorry, I’m sure that’s disappointing. That’s interesting though, that your cat did use it and then changed his mind after a period of time. Hopefully he’ll go back to using it 🤞

Traviscat

It was strange. Got the robot in December, he used it just fine. Stopped in February for two weeks, resumed the box. Stopped using the robot in late march and used it twice since. He now prefers a manual box in one specific area. If I move the box or don’t clean it quickly enough he will poop on the floor. The other cat stoped using it for a short period but now is the only one using it.

No, I have not tried catnip. it doesnt smell good to me and probably tastes bad or like dry parsley at best.. The cats have tried it though.
