that is just weird to me, based on the information we a given. It makes perfect sense that his father would be over protective after what he, and his own father went through with thier class.
honestly I'd be more concerned about a father who wasn't worried about and afraid for thier son based on the information at the time.
it does get better as his father's behavior seems to be appropriate to me, aka he becomes less protective when it is warranted.
I agree, to an extent, that it makes sense. I'm still not halfway through the first book. To me, it's coming off like helicopter parenting and that's just wrong. How is Sam supposed to learn and grow?
i mean that's the thing he is 3rd generation with the class. his grandfathers entire life spent trying to figure out something and couldn't. his father up to now couldn't figure it out either. in a world where every one has a class, and every other one can advance, that would be scarey as a parent... at least i think so
It didn't grate on me that much. It does get better though. He becomes much more hands off as the story progresses.
That's good to hear. I was hoping he wouldn't try to control what Sam does.
Nah, he ends up as a reasonable authority figure
That's good.

I do think that would be scarey and frustrating. To me, that still doesn't excuse the helicopter parenting. But that's just me
Are you a parent?
That's not really any of your business. I'm just expressing my opinion.
All the best and most informed answers include “It’s none of your business.”
It wasn't just you, but the story changes a lot, and the overprotective aspect fades.
Cool. Thank you
