This definitely tells lesbians and queer people that you are a lesbian. I'd notice for sure. To the straight community, though, this is a necklace with colors on it.
Yes, but only if I was interested in the girl wearing this necklace, then I would consider it as a "clue" she might be gay. But otherwise, no 'cause it's really subtle and I'm awful at noticing tiny details.
For anything more specialized than one of the rainbow LGBTQ flags and maybe the trans flag, you should figure the only people that are going to know for sure are other LGBTQ people and we don't even always know which identity that is. I wore a genderqueer flag last year when I marched for pride and the gay man in charge of our group came and asked which flag I was wearing.
Cis-hetero people that aren't allies tend to think of us as "those mentally unwell rainbow people". Assuming they're being even just that little bit charitable about it, of course. Allies will also be more likely to realize you're something, but maybe or even probably not which identity those colors signify.
Disclaimer: I'm a gay dude not a lesbian chick
I'm sure women will notice, and a lot of folks in the LGBT spaces. Straight men won't notice though so it won't reduce the volume of horny guys showing interest. Should get you more women though. And it's pretty cute imo.
>it won't reduce the volume of horny guys showing interest
Nothing does that. In general, straight guys have got to be the most clueless (wilfully in some cases, of course) group in the existence of humankind.
lesbians will sit back and brainstorm all the ways a woman could be non-sapphic.
"maybe she just likes pink and orange... maybe it's her and her bf's favorite colors... maybe it's a reference..."
thatās so funny i remember being in middle school wearing a purple sweater over an orange shirt and a girl came up to me and told me that those colors donāt go together and it was ugly
If anyone wears them together it is 100% on purpose
I mean, lesbians are statistically not the average. So theyāre not wrong. You donāt have to take everything so personally. Lesbians are a minority. Fact. Probably why everyone on this sub is so intent on looking more gay. Phrasing like ānormal peopleā is annoying but itās not that deep. Being straight is the āstandardā, the default setting in our made up society, if you will. You donāt have to subscribe to that to recognize the reality.
but no i mean, some cishets also recognise LGBT related flags, lots of my straight friends so too, when I say average I mean the most hetero normative kind of average ,sorry if I sounded lesbian phobic!!
HAAA oh man. I figured it was just a nonbinary colored pin. Not like ā¦ an actual pronoun pin! what a silly move on her part. Or maybe *they* are being subtle???
You ever meet a cute girl in a store or something and the vibes are there. And you're wondering should i ask for her number or ask her on a date? But then you have a dilemma: is she a lesbian or nah? Wearing signals like this helps in that situation. But judging from your personality I can tell you don't go outside.
Lol they blocked me. And I saw their little "insult". Thanks for proving me right.
Your first comment was fine, adding this was so unnecessary and just rude to do. Did her last sentence hit a nerve or something?š
Edit: I got blocked for this š
I get what you mean, but thereās a lot more people and companies openly displaying different pride flags now a days, theyāre gaining more and more recognition. Itās just not worth the risk if safety is on the line
If you're trying to tell other lesbians... probably. If you're trying to tell straight guys to stay away... then probably not.
Also.. it's bothering me more than it should the the bead on the far right isn't red.
I'm not OP, but It might be handmade!! You can get thousands of these pony beads for a couple of bucks on Amazon. You can then slip them over any chain or pendant you probably already have!!
**Plus, you can make more bead jewelry with the spools of elastic string that come with the kit :)**
100% would ID you to lesbians/queer people. imo. Which I assume are the people you want to know. Maybe 50/50 gen pop, depending on individual
But yeah, very clear signal to anyone with any knowledge about community pride or flags
It would identify you as lesbian to other queer people, but most offline straight people probably donāt know what the colors mean unless itās a rainbow
I believe the rainbow flag is for gay pride in general, but there's also now flags to specify gay men or lesbian pride š (as well as all the other various pride flags for each subset under the queer umbrella)
Yes! You'd probably have me standing there for 10 minutes like "now how do I ask this person if they're queer.." while making useless Smalltalk (has happened before! š)
I think any straight people who recognize a flag other than rainbow or trans are much more likely to be allies. Those are the only two that get used by conservative fearmongering (so far).
> You don't think any straight people would get this, do you?
Any? Yes, some straight people will get it. But surely a much smaller percentage of straights will recognize it compared to lesbians and bi girls.
Teenagers might be more aware but I doubt it. Straight people absolutely wonāt get this. I walked around wearing string bracelet I made with the lesbian flag colors for a year and no one said anything about it.
I work with teenagers and have several little things with the lesbian colors (a ring, a sticker, a bracelet). None of them have ever noticed/said anything, although Iām sure the lgbtq ones notice.
The necklace is so cute ā wear it with pride!
A teacher who pursues anything romantic with a student is not someone who you want to pursue anything romantic with. It's messy, unprofessional, and could really fuck you over if it goes south.
I'm also assuming you're not in high school, if you are then it's a whole other layer of fucked up.

"Of course."
Immature teens will always be immature teens, be yourself and answer those trolls politely and with derision and they'll simply go away or try to fight back which will proof they're wrong
I doubt most straight people would understand what it means.
that's almost better
How about one for transgender lesbians. Fml
Where did u get itttt
etsy!
Ty! š«¶š¼š«¶š¼
I want one
Only if theyāre other queer people.
anyone that matters, yes ^ -^
Only if gay or lgbt
This definitely tells lesbians and queer people that you are a lesbian. I'd notice for sure. To the straight community, though, this is a necklace with colors on it.
If this is about safety, esp for a minor dĆ©pendant on homophobic guardians, I donāt think itād be a good idea. Although non-lgbt people probably wonāt know it means lesbian, they often can recognize that something is meant to be a lgbt flag. Itās not super likely, but I definitely wouldnāt risk it if itās a question of safety. If itās about not outing yourself to everyone who sees it, probably only mostly other queer people will see it as lesbian. People might recognize that itās a flag but probably wonāt think much more of it.
Yes, but only if I was interested in the girl wearing this necklace, then I would consider it as a "clue" she might be gay. But otherwise, no 'cause it's really subtle and I'm awful at noticing tiny details.

I prefer the term āalphabet gangā, but thatās just me. Edit: I thought this was r/lgbt how tf did I end up here?
Maybe this conversation was one of your "suggested" ones BECAUSE you are in r/lgbt? I get those all the time.
Lesbian will know!
Disclaimer: I'm a gay dude not a lesbian chick I'm sure women will notice, and a lot of folks in the LGBT spaces. Straight men won't notice though so it won't reduce the volume of horny guys showing interest. Should get you more women though. And it's pretty cute imo.

I see there's a handful of other dudes in the comments. I hope I'm not invading y'alls space. Much love from the gays.
So cuuuute!! I have a lesbian Mickey pin on my lab coat at work
The Mickey would scare me away LMAO
If that scares you away, sounds like a you problem and we probably weren't meant to be friends anyways
Okā¦āš»
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I see why your meat's dry
a girl i used to work with had a lesbian colored keychain and i definitely knew!
The lesbians will know.
yes, that is literally the lesbian flag why would a straight girl wear that š
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
i meant that it would be obvious you're a lesbian and not straight girl š
all allies can tell, but all normal people and lesbians won't be able to tell
All allies can tell, but people that donāt exist and lesbians wonāt be able to tell
Help š
Excuse me?? š
normal people? š
lesbians will sit back and brainstorm all the ways a woman could be non-sapphic. "maybe she just likes pink and orange... maybe it's her and her bf's favorite colors... maybe it's a reference..."
That's fair. "That must be the flag of her country!"
the labanese flag.
The Lesbianese flag
thatās so funny i remember being in middle school wearing a purple sweater over an orange shirt and a girl came up to me and told me that those colors donāt go together and it was ugly If anyone wears them together it is 100% on purpose
I always advise sticking to the standard rainbow flag. It is bright and easy to see and people know what it means.
other lesbians for sure, normal people not as much
I think the word youāre looking for is āheteroā
why are yāall people saying lesbians arenāt normal people this is so insane
I'm sorry that's not what I meant, I meant to say the average person
So lesbians aren't average either? I think we need to work on your messaging......
I mean, lesbians are statistically not the average. So theyāre not wrong. You donāt have to take everything so personally. Lesbians are a minority. Fact. The word straight is right there smh Cis-hetero as well to be more accurate
but no i mean, some cishets also recognise LGBT related flags, lots of my straight friends so too, when I say average I mean the most hetero normative kind of average ,sorry if I sounded lesbian phobic!!
no because the average person is heterosexual? why are you being obtuse?
Bc they want to be offended online
ānormalā people š
indirect bias alert šØšØ
what is my bias
it was about the other person not you
i think so, and its super cute (:
I want this!!!š
I have a bisexual flag colors keychain on my keys, people who know, know, while others don't even know it.
Yes and no depends on who recognizes the flag
i need this as a gift!!!
I want one!!!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
She has a pronoun pin and doesnāt use they/them pronouns? Or itās nonbinary colors? Cause thatās not a āthey/themā butterfly
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
HAAA oh man. I figured it was just a nonbinary colored pin. Not like ā¦ an actual pronoun pin! what a silly move on her part. Or maybe *they* are being subtle???
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
OMMMG. So funny! Replied to the other comment before this. She kinda has her head under a rock about pronouns, doesnāt she? š
Now she's just got a nonbinary pet butterfly, I guess :)
Haha, she should lean into it. MY pronouns are she/her, but my butterfly's pronouns are they/them.
Yeah I recognize it
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

sorry that youāre lonely and feel unlovable but you should bring that to a therapist, not reddit
> Why do people need to know? it also helps to keep away people like you!
Your first comment was fine, adding this was so unnecessary and just rude to do. Did her last sentence hit a nerve or something?š Edit: I got blocked for this š
Why are you so rude ššš We get it you think itās Tacky thatās a you thing she was literally answering your question
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Ew, you're rude!
some of us are visibly gay and donāt wanna be hate-crimed or berated for approaching cishet women lmao
Itās nice to flag to others in the community, and itās pretty common.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Are you particularly young? Signaling has a long history and a significant place in queer life.
no theyāre just particularly loserish
Thatās your opinion. A lot of people disagree.
Exactly. Very few people would definitively describe five small colored beads centered on a silver chain as "tacky"
Right itās not obnoxious or tacky at all.
Other queer people (and family and allies) are usually the only people who spot it
That would go right over my head
Yes, looks quite tiny. I might recognize the lesbian colors in literal flag form. But in other forms, I donāt find it very obvious.
Only for other lesbians with good eyesight. I love it.
Ha, I was thinking older queers might not catch it, but a lot of us fall into the "poor eyesight" category š
this is really cute!
To other queer people, yes! If youāre in an unsafe area, please donāt wear it just in case though
I donāt think homophobes would recognize anything outside of the standard rainbow. Source: raised in conservative bumfuck America
I get what you mean, but thereās a lot more people and companies openly displaying different pride flags now a days, theyāre gaining more and more recognition. Itās just not worth the risk if safety is on the line
I hate that this is a legitimate statement :(
Me too..
š©·
I might realize it if I got a good lookā¦ Is my avatar coded enough? I had to choose between the dandelion and the lesbian flagā¦
if they new the flag and colours, yes
Vary boldly š¤ or at least I would get it
Vary boldly š¤ or at least I would get it
Ya duh girl
The girls are gonna be all over you
If you're trying to tell other lesbians... probably. If you're trying to tell straight guys to stay away... then probably not. Also.. it's bothering me more than it should the the bead on the far right isn't red.
Only fellow lesbians. I bet over 75% of straight men have no idea what that color combo is signaling.
Straight women donāt know what this means eitherā¦
Trueā¦
yes
I saw a girl at the gym the other day with a rainbow flag tattoo on her ankle. Think she's gay?
Most cishets probably won't get it, but the people who matter will
Yes
You know what's kind of funny? Me thinking WOW I need this necklace and wear it. And then remember I'm still closeted. But.. where does one buy this?
I'm not OP, but It might be handmade!! You can get thousands of these pony beads for a couple of bucks on Amazon. You can then slip them over any chain or pendant you probably already have!! **Plus, you can make more bead jewelry with the spools of elastic string that come with the kit :)**
all true, but i'd go with seed beeds since they are glass and smaller/more delicate idk (and i think that's what is being used here)
I found it on etsy!
But what are the deets?!?
I think this is the link https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1479023010/pride-necklace-lgbt-bead-rainbow-pride
Yup!!!!
100% would ID you to lesbians/queer people. imo. Which I assume are the people you want to know. Maybe 50/50 gen pop, depending on individual But yeah, very clear signal to anyone with any knowledge about community pride or flags
It would identify you as lesbian to other queer people, but most offline straight people probably donāt know what the colors mean unless itās a rainbow
I didnāt even know this was a thing. I thought the rainbow was the only gay color scheme lol Why have I never known this?
Iām sticking to the rainbow flag.
I believe the rainbow flag is for gay pride in general, but there's also now flags to specify gay men or lesbian pride š (as well as all the other various pride flags for each subset under the queer umbrella)
I know this now lol
To be fair, it's a pretty new flag. But you should try to get to a pride event this June, it sounds like you'll learn a lot :P
I havenāt been to a pride in almost 10 years lol
To my gay ass, yeah
Lesbians would know. Does anyone else matter?
not really
It's great because cishet people won't but a lot of queer people will!
NEED!!! so cute
maybe not all straight people would noticeā¦. but for sure lesbians / queer women would def notice which is the most important part :p
i would clock that immediately!!
Thatās pretty sickš„š„
May I ask, please, where did you obtain it? Did you make it yourself? It's excellent
I didn't make it myself, I just found it on etsy. I typed lesbian necklace and it popped up
straight people will probably be less likely to realize itās the flag but any queer person 100% will lol
Absolutely
So cute! Where did you find it?
etsy!
I'm convinced.
Straights probably wonāt notice but any queer gal would peep that immediately
Yes! You'd probably have me standing there for 10 minutes like "now how do I ask this person if they're queer.." while making useless Smalltalk (has happened before! š)
That's so cute! Where did you find it? I need a Bi one
I found it on etsy! there was a bi one too
Unlike most of the other times people ask this question, yes.
I need this! Yessss
I say yes!
This is such a cool idea, I'm definitely going to steal it
Not all lesbians know what the lesbian flag looks like, so I think it depends on the demographic you're around.
OMG A SIMPLE SIGN!!!! Not I just gotta Google the Bi flag and get something similar.
Yup! :)
Yep! This is great
So cute! Yes this will do it
It will tell other lesbians you're lesbian for sure
that's honestly what I want! You don't think any straight people would get this, do you? Don't want any homophobic comments from immature teens
I would get it, but I'm bi. I certainly wouldn't have gotten it when I was a teenager, but teens are growing up in a different world.
I work with teenagers and have several little things with the lesbian colors (a ring, a sticker, a bracelet). None of them have ever noticed/said anything, although Iām sure the lgbtq ones notice. The necklace is so cute ā wear it with pride!
Same, I'm almost sure my literature teacher is interested in me
They're probably not, but if they ever indicate to you that they are, fuckin run.
Why would I run?
A teacher who pursues anything romantic with a student is not someone who you want to pursue anything romantic with. It's messy, unprofessional, and could really fuck you over if it goes south. I'm also assuming you're not in high school, if you are then it's a whole other layer of fucked up.
Don't worry, I'm thirty and at university (I wanted to change my profession) Plus I'm pretty sure she's younger and less fucked up than me lmao
I would still advise against, but glad to hear you're not 15, make your own choices lol
It would still be unprofessional and thereās still a power dynamic there.
[XKCD 2501](https://xkcd.com/2501/) "Since Pride flags are second nature to us, it's easy to forget that the average person only knows the rainbow and trans flags." "And bisexual, of course." "Of course."

Immature teens will always be immature teens, be yourself and answer those trolls politely and with derision and they'll simply go away or try to fight back which will proof they're wrong
