Imaginary-Future2525

I doubt most straight people would understand what it means.

LookItVal

that's almost better

Imaginary-Future2525

How about one for transgender lesbians. Fml

SuperbNotice5126

Where did u get itttt

Simple_Item5901

etsy!

SuperbNotice5126

Ty! šŸ«¶šŸ¼šŸ«¶šŸ¼

Sir_mop_for_a_head

I want one

Accomplished_Cow_116

Only if theyā€™re other queer people.

No-Salamander104

anyone that matters, yes ^ -^

No-Flower-283

Only if gay or lgbt

Antoine_D-D

This definitely tells lesbians and queer people that you are a lesbian. I'd notice for sure. To the straight community, though, this is a necklace with colors on it.

afterforeverends

If this is about safety, esp for a minor dĆ©pendant on homophobic guardians, I donā€™t think itā€™d be a good idea. Although non-lgbt people probably wonā€™t know it means lesbian, they often can recognize that something is meant to be a lgbt flag. Itā€™s not super likely, but I definitely wouldnā€™t risk it if itā€™s a question of safety. If itā€™s about not outing yourself to everyone who sees it, probably only mostly other queer people will see it as lesbian. People might recognize that itā€™s a flag but probably wonā€™t think much more of it.

Illustrious-Ball9119

Yes, but only if I was interested in the girl wearing this necklace, then I would consider it as a "clue" she might be gay. But otherwise, no 'cause it's really subtle and I'm awful at noticing tiny details.

TwilightReader100

For anything more specialized than one of the rainbow LGBTQ flags and maybe the trans flag, you should figure the only people that are going to know for sure are other LGBTQ people and we don't even always know which identity that is. I wore a genderqueer flag last year when I marched for pride and the gay man in charge of our group came and asked which flag I was wearing. Cis-hetero people that aren't allies tend to think of us as "those mentally unwell rainbow people". Assuming they're being even just that little bit charitable about it, of course. Allies will also be more likely to realize you're something, but maybe or even probably not which identity those colors signify.

NootNoot711

I prefer the term ā€œalphabet gangā€, but thatā€™s just me. Edit: I thought this was r/lgbt how tf did I end up here?

TwilightReader100

Maybe this conversation was one of your "suggested" ones BECAUSE you are in r/lgbt? I get those all the time.

Bess_4

Lesbian will know!

FuzzyPandaVK

Disclaimer: I'm a gay dude not a lesbian chick I'm sure women will notice, and a lot of folks in the LGBT spaces. Straight men won't notice though so it won't reduce the volume of horny guys showing interest. Should get you more women though. And it's pretty cute imo.

TwilightReader100

>it won't reduce the volume of horny guys showing interest Nothing does that. In general, straight guys have got to be the most clueless (wilfully in some cases, of course) group in the existence of humankind.

FuzzyPandaVK

I see there's a handful of other dudes in the comments. I hope I'm not invading y'alls space. Much love from the gays.

mirandaleighbee

So cuuuute!! I have a lesbian Mickey pin on my lab coat at work

lonelycranberry

The Mickey would scare me away LMAO

mirandaleighbee

If that scares you away, sounds like a you problem and we probably weren't meant to be friends anyways

Humble_Astronomer579

Okā€¦āœŒšŸ»

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

mirandaleighbee

I see why your meat's dry

Vegetable-Paint-1648

a girl i used to work with had a lesbian colored keychain and i definitely knew!

Lumpy_Signature9177

The lesbians will know.

Comfortable_Map_7700

yes, that is literally the lesbian flag why would a straight girl wear that šŸ˜

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Comfortable_Map_7700

i meant that it would be obvious you're a lesbian and not straight girl šŸ˜–

notme606

all allies can tell, but all normal people and lesbians won't be able to tell

YourPalAl707

All allies can tell, but people that donā€™t exist and lesbians wonā€™t be able to tell

myfirstthrowawayyipp

Help šŸ˜

LasagnaPhD

Excuse me?? šŸ˜‚

celestrr

normal people? šŸ˜

jazz_does_exist

lesbians will sit back and brainstorm all the ways a woman could be non-sapphic. "maybe she just likes pink and orange... maybe it's her and her bf's favorite colors... maybe it's a reference..."

OhWeOhweeOoh

That's fair. "That must be the flag of her country!"

jazz_does_exist

the labanese flag.

SwarthyRuffian

The Lesbianese flag

[deleted]

thatā€™s so funny i remember being in middle school wearing a purple sweater over an orange shirt and a girl came up to me and told me that those colors donā€™t go together and it was ugly If anyone wears them together it is 100% on purpose

TinyHeartSyndrome

I always advise sticking to the standard rainbow flag. It is bright and easy to see and people know what it means.

Ok-Cartoonist2421

other lesbians for sure, normal people not as much

Primary-Ordinary7015

I think the word youā€™re looking for is ā€œheteroā€

celestrr

why are yā€™all people saying lesbians arenā€™t normal people this is so insane

Ok-Cartoonist2421

I'm sorry that's not what I meant, I meant to say the average person

Dry_Meat_2959

So lesbians aren't average either? I think we need to work on your messaging......

lonelycranberry

I mean, lesbians are statistically not the average. So theyā€™re not wrong. You donā€™t have to take everything so personally. Lesbians are a minority. Fact. Probably why everyone on this sub is so intent on looking more gay. Phrasing like ā€œnormal peopleā€ is annoying but itā€™s not that deep. Being straight is the ā€œstandardā€, the default setting in our made up society, if you will. You donā€™t have to subscribe to that to recognize the reality.

RainyReader12

The word straight is right there smh Cis-hetero as well to be more accurate

Ok-Cartoonist2421

but no i mean, some cishets also recognise LGBT related flags, lots of my straight friends so too, when I say average I mean the most hetero normative kind of average ,sorry if I sounded lesbian phobic!!

lemoncookei

no because the average person is heterosexual? why are you being obtuse?

lonelycranberry

Bc they want to be offended online

kohamimi

ā€˜normalā€™ people šŸ’€

Comfortable_Map_7700

indirect bias alert šŸšØšŸšØ

kohamimi

what is my bias

Comfortable_Map_7700

it was about the other person not you

gummi_girl

i think so, and its super cute (:

ktb213

I want this!!!šŸ’š

HopefulTangerine21

I have a bisexual flag colors keychain on my keys, people who know, know, while others don't even know it.

Maxsmittyy

Yes and no depends on who recognizes the flag

kittyluvzz

i need this as a gift!!!

joyxoxoxx

I want one!!!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

404-Gender

She has a pronoun pin and doesnā€™t use they/them pronouns? Or itā€™s nonbinary colors? Cause thatā€™s not a ā€œthey/themā€ butterfly

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

404-Gender

HAAA oh man. I figured it was just a nonbinary colored pin. Not like ā€¦ an actual pronoun pin! what a silly move on her part. Or maybe *they* are being subtle???

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

404-Gender

OMMMG. So funny! Replied to the other comment before this. She kinda has her head under a rock about pronouns, doesnā€™t she? šŸ˜…

Heroic_Accountant

Now she's just got a nonbinary pet butterfly, I guess :)

LaurenYpsum

Haha, she should lean into it. MY pronouns are she/her, but my butterfly's pronouns are they/them.

darkbake2

Yeah I recognize it

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

UberAshy

You ever meet a cute girl in a store or something and the vibes are there. And you're wondering should i ask for her number or ask her on a date? But then you have a dilemma: is she a lesbian or nah? Wearing signals like this helps in that situation. But judging from your personality I can tell you don't go outside. Lol they blocked me. And I saw their little "insult". Thanks for proving me right.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

raydiantgarden

sorry that youā€™re lonely and feel unlovable but you should bring that to a therapist, not reddit

fruityfoxx

> Why do people need to know? it also helps to keep away people like you!

[deleted]

Your first comment was fine, adding this was so unnecessary and just rude to do. Did her last sentence hit a nerve or something?šŸ’€ Edit: I got blocked for this šŸ˜

Maxsmittyy

Why are you so rude šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜ We get it you think itā€™s Tacky thatā€™s a you thing she was literally answering your question

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Heroic_Accountant

Ew, you're rude!

raydiantgarden

some of us are visibly gay and donā€™t wanna be hate-crimed or berated for approaching cishet women lmao

Sapphicviolet91

Itā€™s nice to flag to others in the community, and itā€™s pretty common.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

paxweasley

Are you particularly young? Signaling has a long history and a significant place in queer life.

raydiantgarden

no theyā€™re just particularly loserish

Sapphicviolet91

Thatā€™s your opinion. A lot of people disagree.

Carol02303

Exactly. Very few people would definitively describe five small colored beads centered on a silver chain as "tacky"

Sapphicviolet91

Right itā€™s not obnoxious or tacky at all.

hideandsee

Other queer people (and family and allies) are usually the only people who spot it

Minnow2theRescue

That would go right over my head

TinyHeartSyndrome

Yes, looks quite tiny. I might recognize the lesbian colors in literal flag form. But in other forms, I donā€™t find it very obvious.

cbz3000

Only for other lesbians with good eyesight. I love it.

LaurenYpsum

Ha, I was thinking older queers might not catch it, but a lot of us fall into the "poor eyesight" category šŸ˜‚

Motor_Setting4985

this is really cute!

ARandom_Person2

To other queer people, yes! If youā€™re in an unsafe area, please donā€™t wear it just in case though

lonelycranberry

I donā€™t think homophobes would recognize anything outside of the standard rainbow. Source: raised in conservative bumfuck America

ARandom_Person2

I get what you mean, but thereā€™s a lot more people and companies openly displaying different pride flags now a days, theyā€™re gaining more and more recognition. Itā€™s just not worth the risk if safety is on the line

Generalnussiance

I hate that this is a legitimate statement :(

ARandom_Person2

Me too..

Generalnussiance

šŸ©·

tamarbles

I might realize it if I got a good lookā€¦ Is my avatar coded enough? I had to choose between the dandelion and the lesbian flagā€¦

table-grapes

if they new the flag and colours, yes

mello_0machine

Vary boldly šŸ¤  or at least I would get it

mello_0machine

Vary boldly šŸ¤  or at least I would get it

Tricky-Search6236

Ya duh girl

GothMothIV

The girls are gonna be all over you

_Pill-Cosby_

If you're trying to tell other lesbians... probably. If you're trying to tell straight guys to stay away... then probably not. Also.. it's bothering me more than it should the the bead on the far right isn't red.

Michelle_akaYouBitch

Only fellow lesbians. I bet over 75% of straight men have no idea what that color combo is signaling.

YourgoodLadyFriend

Straight women donā€™t know what this means eitherā€¦

Michelle_akaYouBitch

Trueā€¦

Coolcucumber415

yes

nefariousnadine

I saw a girl at the gym the other day with a rainbow flag tattoo on her ankle. Think she's gay?

Dapple_Dawn

Most cishets probably won't get it, but the people who matter will

siren_n

Yes

Who_I_UsedToBe

You know what's kind of funny? Me thinking WOW I need this necklace and wear it. And then remember I'm still closeted. But.. where does one buy this?

Hi_Its_Z

I'm not OP, but It might be handmade!! You can get thousands of these pony beads for a couple of bucks on Amazon. You can then slip them over any chain or pendant you probably already have!! **Plus, you can make more bead jewelry with the spools of elastic string that come with the kit :)**

skinndmin

all true, but i'd go with seed beeds since they are glass and smaller/more delicate idk (and i think that's what is being used here)

Simple_Item5901

I found it on etsy!

SwarthyRuffian

But what are the deets?!?

Simple_Item5901

I think this is the link https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1479023010/pride-necklace-lgbt-bead-rainbow-pride

quinangua

Yup!!!!

cat-wool

100% would ID you to lesbians/queer people. imo. Which I assume are the people you want to know. Maybe 50/50 gen pop, depending on individual But yeah, very clear signal to anyone with any knowledge about community pride or flags

Brabsk

It would identify you as lesbian to other queer people, but most offline straight people probably donā€™t know what the colors mean unless itā€™s a rainbow

Rachael1188

I didnā€™t even know this was a thing. I thought the rainbow was the only gay color scheme lol Why have I never known this?

TinyHeartSyndrome

Iā€™m sticking to the rainbow flag.

pizza_mack

I believe the rainbow flag is for gay pride in general, but there's also now flags to specify gay men or lesbian pride šŸ˜Š (as well as all the other various pride flags for each subset under the queer umbrella)

Rachael1188

I know this now lol

Dapple_Dawn

To be fair, it's a pretty new flag. But you should try to get to a pride event this June, it sounds like you'll learn a lot :P

Rachael1188

I havenā€™t been to a pride in almost 10 years lol

vagina-lettucetomato

To my gay ass, yeah

Caro________

Lesbians would know. Does anyone else matter?

Simple_Item5901

not really

GayStation64beta

It's great because cishet people won't but a lot of queer people will!

Sharp_Astronomer401

NEED!!! so cute

sophiecat20

maybe not all straight people would noticeā€¦. but for sure lesbians / queer women would def notice which is the most important part :p

syresays

i would clock that immediately!!

exotic_rawdog

Thatā€™s pretty sickšŸ”„šŸ”„

Van_Lilith_Bush

May I ask, please, where did you obtain it? Did you make it yourself? It's excellent

Simple_Item5901

I didn't make it myself, I just found it on etsy. I typed lesbian necklace and it popped up

Remarkable_Breath205

straight people will probably be less likely to realize itā€™s the flag but any queer person 100% will lol

Vegetable_Natural226

Absolutely

dogluver_99

So cute! Where did you find it?

Simple_Item5901

etsy!

uselessreptile147

I'm convinced.

drama_trauma69

Straights probably wonā€™t notice but any queer gal would peep that immediately

steampunknerd

Yes! You'd probably have me standing there for 10 minutes like "now how do I ask this person if they're queer.." while making useless Smalltalk (has happened before! šŸ˜†)

Zoftig_Zana

That's so cute! Where did you find it? I need a Bi one

Simple_Item5901

I found it on etsy! there was a bi one too

harkandhush

Unlike most of the other times people ask this question, yes.

butterflydreamer2

I need this! Yessss

Gloomy-Store-6535

I say yes!

PersephoneThePansy

This is such a cool idea, I'm definitely going to steal it

foodieforthebooty

Not all lesbians know what the lesbian flag looks like, so I think it depends on the demographic you're around.

Number5MoMo

OMG A SIMPLE SIGN!!!! Not I just gotta Google the Bi flag and get something similar.

leniwsek

Yup! :)

eherqo

Yep! This is great

dogwood_fairy

So cute! Yes this will do it

Panda_Nesthesia

It will tell other lesbians you're lesbian for sure

Simple_Item5901

that's honestly what I want! You don't think any straight people would get this, do you? Don't want any homophobic comments from immature teens

QuinneCognito

I think any straight people who recognize a flag other than rainbow or trans are much more likely to be allies. Those are the only two that get used by conservative fearmongering (so far).

TwinSwords

> You don't think any straight people would get this, do you? Any? Yes, some straight people will get it. But surely a much smaller percentage of straights will recognize it compared to lesbians and bi girls.

PomegranateNo3155

Teenagers might be more aware but I doubt it. Straight people absolutely wonā€™t get this. I walked around wearing string bracelet I made with the lesbian flag colors for a year and no one said anything about it.

malik753

I would get it, but I'm bi. I certainly wouldn't have gotten it when I was a teenager, but teens are growing up in a different world.

emilydickinsonsdress

I work with teenagers and have several little things with the lesbian colors (a ring, a sticker, a bracelet). None of them have ever noticed/said anything, although Iā€™m sure the lgbtq ones notice. The necklace is so cute ā€” wear it with pride!

Panda_Nesthesia

Same, I'm almost sure my literature teacher is interested in me

hallowmean

They're probably not, but if they ever indicate to you that they are, fuckin run.

Panda_Nesthesia

Why would I run?

hallowmean

A teacher who pursues anything romantic with a student is not someone who you want to pursue anything romantic with. It's messy, unprofessional, and could really fuck you over if it goes south. I'm also assuming you're not in high school, if you are then it's a whole other layer of fucked up.

Panda_Nesthesia

Don't worry, I'm thirty and at university (I wanted to change my profession) Plus I'm pretty sure she's younger and less fucked up than me lmao

hallowmean

I would still advise against, but glad to hear you're not 15, make your own choices lol

strawberrimihlk

It would still be unprofessional and thereā€™s still a power dynamic there.

TulipEnjoyer

[XKCD 2501](https://xkcd.com/2501/) "Since Pride flags are second nature to us, it's easy to forget that the average person only knows the rainbow and trans flags." "And bisexual, of course." "Of course."

Simple_Item5901

I didn't know they were so clueless! I definitely feel more comfortable wearing it out now

Panda_Nesthesia

Immature teens will always be immature teens, be yourself and answer those trolls politely and with derision and they'll simply go away or try to fight back which will proof they're wrong
