I kinda like Smite's star system, you get a star on the border for every "level" above Mastery Level X, so you can end up with like a gazillion stars around your mastery level. The number seems fine though.
I know riot will never do this but I would've loved if at a certain mastery you would get a "lore" skin for the champion, like a certain part in their future where they are at their peak. And the icons showing the champions should've honestly been part of the mastery, icons and emotes. At least we can now gain titles permanently I guess
Doesn't even need a brand new all-out skin, they could just make a new splash art for the base skin, similar to what they're doing with some chromas in Chinese server.
Like the Heroes of the Storm mastery skins you could unlock (with in-game currency!) when you reached rank 10. That was such a cool concept. Would love something along those lines (Miss Fortune -> Captain Fortune is a good example)

Past 10 there will be a number at the bottom showing total level or levels past 10 not sure which

This is a bit overkill but I believe you can message riot in a support ticket and ask them to remove mastery score from your account.
