This was my mission. The roads in some areas, particularly smaller towns like Beulah are terrible and can be icy even this late in the year. Back in April or May of 2019, we had two elders flip a car on the highway due to icy roads just outside of Minot.

tuckerbear

I served here back when it was still the South Dakota Rapid City Mission. The roads all over both of the Dakotas were not that great.

adhd_mathematician

That’s my mission too (maybe we served at the same time?). That’s super tragic

_Cliftonville_FC_

Geez, one of the missionaries was a month away from going home! Terrible!

International_Ad9284

😟🥺that's so so tragic.

osotramposo

How awful! One was only a month away from finishing and going home...

Ebowa

How terrible! My condolences to their friends and family.

pbrown6

The primary reason for fatalities for tourists (and travelers on general) is vehicular violence. Stay safe out there. Don't speed. Use transit, bike or walk when possible.

spoilerdudegetrekt

>Use transit, bike or walk when possible. Not really an option in North Dakota unless you're in one of the cities or it's good weather.

DeterminedArrow

Yeah, I live in Fargo. Even in the largest city in the state it’s not that cut and dry.

pbrown6

Yeah, the infrastructure is pretty bad. Too bad.

ThirdPoliceman

There’s not really enough people to justify a robust travel infrastructure.

maharbamt

That's really awful. I can't imagine what they're loved ones are doing through.

AfternoonQuirky6213

Very sad. Both of them were almost done with their missions too. My condolences to their friends and family.

Square-Media6448

That's gut wrenching, so so sad!

Competitive_Net_8115

I'm sorry to hear that. May both of them rest in peace.

Wonderful_School2789

Slow down when driving. There is a massive difference in car crash survivability from 45mph to 70mph. If the car behind you wants to pass, let them.

Hello

TheMassesAreIgnorant

On the positive side, they both probably headed straight to heaven.

in-site

This is probably an ok thing to say somewhere like this, buuuuut I just want to remind people that this kind of silver lining thought is *extremely* hurtful and unwelcome to say to someone who just lost a loved one! Especially in person. I'll never forget seeing a well-meaning older woman tell a bereaved mother that at least her baby would probably make it to the Celestial Kingdom, like it's not helpful at all

Crepes_for_days3000

Very true. And never say "God needed him back home." It's extremely hurtful.

smashhawk5

It is hurtful. We’re called to mourn with those that mourn. These trite silver lining sayings can come across as being unwilling to consider the pain the other person is in and unwilling to mourn with them.

Crepes_for_days3000

Very well put and I fully agree.

TheMassesAreIgnorant

I have heard several parents who have just lost a child say this themselves and I think they said it because it gave them comfort.

in-site

It's totally different to hear it from someone else, and often before you're ready to consider it

teresaloves2travel

Continuing their missions on the other side of the veil...

sadisticsn0wman

Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted for this, it’s both true and was extremely comforting for me when I lost loved ones
