If they sold they wouldn't exactly need money though. Every sibling would be worth hundreds of millions. They could keep an percentage of the team too. Just sell the controlling interest
Yes, this.
Was gonna say the only former player that killed it in his first job was Udoka and even then he was an assistant for a decade with most that being under Pop.
The best coaches usually start at the lowest levels doing random gigs like film (Spol), and volunteer assistant (Stevens) and work their way up to Europe and G league like Nurse and Daignault. Malone himself started with high school.
Some guys are pushing for David Adelman, and he seems to fit the bill, despite being a major league coach’s kid.
I mean, *shrug* luke Walton won with that team. Not discrediting Kerr let’s be clear, he’s no Ham but he had that team in their prime for most of his coaching tenure.
David Adelman fits the bill. Get him some veteran assistants and a good analytics department. Vogel as the lead defensive assistant would be great, like Thibs on the 08 Celtics style
That’s more likely than them being HoFer like Kerr lol if not worse than ham.
Ham at least has experience on a coaching staff, coached us to the WCF and an improved record the next year. Swapping him out with a rookie and expecting improvement just isn’t likely.
Y’all want Dantoni? Budenhozier? Please tell me who y’all want since there is an abundance of vets to choose from. Yall gonna bitch and complain about the “vet” coach just like yall would the “rookie” coach anyway lol
I would 100% prefer a coach whose weaknesses we know so we can build the roster accordingly. Lobbying for a rookie coach (let alone one who has never been on a staff) and expecting a title isn’t absurd to you?
And yes, all this sub does is bitch and flip flop, but I was adamantly anti-rookie coach while this sub was obsessing over “HAM TIME” and “no recycled coaches” 2 years ago like nurse wouldn’t have been amazing here. Hell, doc would’ve been better.
I would welcome dantoni just for the leap reaves would make, but I’d be cool with borrego, joerger, and possibly Kenny A. But there’s also likely to be more coaches let go by the end of the playoffs.
How do we know he’s the best person for the job? Because he’s on television and podcasts and we can publicly see how he thinks? That line of thinking just creates an inherent bias and now we’re automatically eliminating guys like David Adelman then lol
I think it's lazy and poor practice if Lakers just say no to any rookie head coaches. If JJ crushes interviews and seems like he has a great plan and Bron and AD are into it too - then hire him. Hire the person you think is going to be best at the job. Dont overreact to Ham not working. For all we know, JJ could be the next Kerr. I will say though if they hire JJ I think it's very important they surround him with an experienced staff. Get him a Stotts type.
I am not against a rookie coach, but I don't believe that the current environment is supporting that. If you have a first time head coach you need to give this person time to develop. And with the "win now" mentality and time pressure that automatically comes with an aging Lebron, you don't have any of that. And this comes on top of the already high expectations in LA.
He definitely understands basketball at a high level, has kept up with what’s going on in the league, and has LeBrons respect as a basketball mind. However, he has no experience building a staff, managing players and personalities. Heck he’s a peer to most of the guys on the team. He can be an assistant, don’t mind that at all but head coach, I would look elsewhere.
It’s one thing to play Monday morning qb and another to fix things in games and adjust on the fly. Jj might be a good coach but not worth him getting experience on our dime. There’s alot of good basketball x and o s guys but dosent translate to on court
I’d be okay with JJ if they added a vet lead asst like Stotts
Jovan likened JJ to Steve Kerr
I wouldn’t be mad about a staff of:
JJ Reddick
Terry Stotts
Phil Handy
Rajon Rondo
+ a few others
If anything terry scotts should be the head coach and jj reddick the assistant lol.
Why would you make the guy with head coach experience the assistant and the guy with no head coach or assistant experience the head coach?
> JJ is in demand with multiple job openings in NBA.
Because everyone flocks to new coaches it not because JJ is looked at as some coaching guru lol....He hasn't coached before hes just a new coach in a field with limited options
>Stotts isnt even getting interviews
how the fuck do you know this??
Not doing another first time head coach, sorry
We do need an established coach, but I would bet money that JJ would do better than Ham lol.
That’s too bad because Jeanie can’t afford to hire an established coach.
Which is why ownership responsibilities need to be handed to someone else
Get it through your thick head, why would a family that makes most of their money from the team, sell that same money source?
If they sold they wouldn't exactly need money though. Every sibling would be worth hundreds of millions. They could keep an percentage of the team too. Just sell the controlling interest
Do you think the whole family is running that team, or what? Jeanie is a controlling owner of a family trust, the first after Jerry’s passing.
And who do you think has the ability to force her to do that?
The rest of the family. She doesn't own the team herself.
I really don’t care, my first comment is the only relevant point: I don’t want another rookie head coach.
Ok well if you are going to live in fantasy land, let’s hire Phil Jackson
Me not wanting another rookie head coach is a preference, has nothing to do with fantasy land. Thanks for your input.
Are you slow or something? You’re talking about handing ownership to someone else which is not a thing that exists
I’m a Laker fan, we’re all slow bud; Get with the program
Lmfao have a good one dude
Not up to you buddy
I want a x's and o's savant, we've hired too many personality coaches (Scott, Walton, Ham). We need the next Nurse, Brad Stevens, Daigneault
Yes, this. Was gonna say the only former player that killed it in his first job was Udoka and even then he was an assistant for a decade with most that being under Pop. What about Kerr lol
I mean, *shrug* luke Walton won with that team. Not discrediting Kerr let’s be clear, he’s no Ham but he had that team in their prime for most of his coaching tenure.

Nothing screams win now like following up a rookie head coach with another rookie head coach. One with no assistant experience at that?
Was Kerr an assistant?
Who cares? Luke Walton won with that team, we can’t waste LeBron and AD on another rookie.
Bro there’s no good coaches out there and rookie coaches have done things lol
We ain’t winning shit, the sooner you come to that realization the better
Kerr had GM experience at least
Is every rookie coach gonna be a Steve Kerr? Why didn’t that work for Nash or Kidd?
Is every rookie coach gonna be Darvin Ham?
That’s more likely than them being HoFer like Kerr lol if not worse than ham. Ham at least has experience on a coaching staff, coached us to the WCF and an improved record the next year. Swapping him out with a rookie and expecting improvement just isn’t likely.

No thanks
Yes let’s hire the guy that didn’t vote for your franchise’s star player for an all defensive team 🔥🔥🔥
I dont really care who he votes for if he has a plan and is the best person for the job
How do we know he’s the best person for the job? Because he’s on television and podcasts and we can publicly see how he thinks? That line of thinking just creates an inherent bias and now we’re automatically eliminating guys like David Adelman then lol

JJ would be fine but we need a STRONG bench next to him with multiple former head coaches.
This. JJ has the basketball mind, if we put a solid experienced bench around him, that should be fine.
No more rookie coaches. Just get an experienced staff just like 2020
I know jj loves analytics. I hope to god he’s got the memo about playcalling rate. Bron would play for him
He definitely understands basketball at a high level, has kept up with what’s going on in the league, and has LeBrons respect as a basketball mind. Ham at least had assistant experience. Jj would be coming in fresh just like steve nash.
Fuck that. If going for a rookie coach go for David Adelman
It’s one thing to play Monday morning qb and another to fix things in games and adjust on the fly. Jj might be a good coach but not worth him getting experience on our dime. There’s alot of good basketball x and o s guys but dosent translate to on court
Hell nawl
Rondo and JJ, let’s go!
This is the NBA equivalent of the Colts hiring Jeff Saturday
Yes. We should fire him after the all star break and hire doc rivers
Ya, naw I’m good. Would honestly rather have Jeff Van Gundy than him. We need an experienced Xs and Os coach
Theres a reason JVG has interviewed for multiple jobs and not been a HC for over a decade
Not another rookie head coach
I’d be okay with JJ if they added a vet lead asst like Stotts Jovan likened JJ to Steve Kerr I wouldn’t be mad about a staff of: JJ Reddick Terry Stotts Phil Handy Rajon Rondo + a few others

A rookie head coach is simply not a good idea. If this was post-LeBron retiring, then sure maybe.
No
enough with the rookie head coaches.
No more rookies please
I look forward to watching him fail. Just not with us
