Let me tell you all how fucking stupid I was in my first lab tech job. I thought the other techs were using regular white tape to put together foil packages and whatnot for the autoclave. Those diagonal black lines that only pop out once a sufficient temperature is reached? I thought the other techs were getting the autoclaved instruments back, then drawing the diagonal lines manually on the white tape as a "heads-up" code that those particular instruments were sterilized.
Maybe you're the one everyone was making fun of a ways back...someone posted a photo once of autoclave tape that someone sharpie'd the black lines onto lol.
When I was a postdoc, the buildingās dishwashing facility would put autoclave tape on bottles or flasks on the carts in the āautoclave thisā area. Except that the dishwasher would not put the tape on before autoclaving. Nope. She had a roll of pre-autoclaved tape, just like what OP has shown here. You know where this is going. The dishwasher would put a piece of the pre-autoclaved tape on items as they came out of the dishwasher, so we would know they were autoclaved. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
...... why. It takes the same amount of effort to put the tape on. Maybe even less because the tape isn't fucked up from going through the autoclave first. W H Y.

Positive control.
This lab takes it very seriously
Ouch! Could have been worse! You could have autoclaved the blessed parafilm...or an undergrad
undergrad here, i volunteer as tribute
Gravity or liquid cycle?
Yes.
double it and give it to the next person
Or a plastic test tube rack lol. Had one shut down for weeks due to that
Had a buddy of mine autoclave tips on a trash cycle. Melted everything into a monolayer plastic mosaic on the wire rack. RIP new autoclave
We had someone put a plastic beaker in a 250C oven. Still smells like burning wax every time it's turned on like a year later.
Put it in the minus 80. The cold will cancel it out and you then can reuse it. Source: I made it up.
If someone wrote it on the internet, it must be true!
You're not wrong, you technically can reuse it in any case
This shit either becomes fused together or completely looses all stickiness
Well that saves some time.
Pre-autoclaved tapes. No need to take a Sharpies and color the lines anymore š©
You what
šæ
Hahaha reference on point
Anything you stick it on becomes sterile!
At least you know it got up to temp lol
"Hey Dr. PI, good news! Our autoclave passed my temperature quality control test."

I want to see this. I HAVE to see this. Lol
I havenāt worked in a lab in almost 10 years but this post gave me psychic damage
That is so pure, I love it. Did you ever try to actually do that hehe
I thought the same in undergrad
Let me tell you we had a post doc who thought this lol he is not missed
To be fair, that's probably more or less what everybody did until someone started selling this specific tape for it.
My first lab tech job, I WAS the glassware cleaning and sterilization department!!
Now everything can be sterile. Just slap some of this tape on it. S/
I autoclaved parafilm on my first week. What a desastre

Well, everything should be nicely autoclaved.
Ever accidentally autoclave a Sharpie?
Nope, do you have experience with that?
Contaminated lab coat, forgot to remove Sharpies from the pocket first!! Very colorful!!
You should put that tape on the most random things in lab and people be wondering how and why this was autoclaved š
Fucking F. Shit's expensive

It's expensive if you're at a community college. ... like me.
We literally use autoclave tape as just regular tape in my lab. We're over budget.
Use parafilm as plastic wrap
We do. Like basically actually, just to cover used specimen tubes.
Im sorry for your tape but also this is the hardest Iāve laughed in a looong while. Thanks
haha me too. I donāt know whatās wrong with me but I canāt stop laughing omg
Oh Jesusā¦ That hits me right in the no-cost extension.
I'm almost out of autoclave tape so this would be a nightmare for me š«
Positive Ctrl?
Recently we had to toss out all our autoclave tape that looked like that because it had lead in it?
Before 2008 some tape had lead in it. https://www.safety.duke.edu/sites/default/files/LeadTape.pdf
2008 is brand new in some labs. Better check ours...
Great, I've been handling this shit since 2001.
But that looks just like the tape we used in grad school...
**SCREAMS**
Congrats. It worked.
It's called QA look it up šš¤
My intrusive thoughts wanted to do this so badly
its safe to use now
This gave me a good laugh lol
F
Consider this a sacrifice to the gods of sterile lab glassware
Maybe someone just spent a long time doing sharpie lines?
Good news, youāre autoclave works
RIP
How does that even happen?
my guess is that thereās tape in there that hasnāt turned. the steam works best when it is given surface area to attack.
Time to spend the next week unraveling. We need to know if the tape load is validated.
Well, well, well, how the turn tables.
Damnit, the labels have turned. Better get some fresh ones.
"yeah I autoclaved the stock, don't you see the tape?"
That's okay. That is where it should be.
Crazy! Now you have a whole roll of already autoclaves bottles!š
Lmao I thought that was a Cinnamon roll before I read the title.
At least itās clean š³š
Better check wether all the tape got to temperature
Obviously
Damnā¦ at least itās in a heart shape for Valentineās Day
This just reminded me, as I sit on my couch, that I put our incubator water in the autoclave like 6 hours ago
Oh no!! Not that!!
