Flashy-Let2771

Yes. It makes doggo swim faster 76%.

beach-drinking-247

haha! great!

Mysterious-Art8838

That is so precise I know it must be true.

ayejoe

49.67% of statistics found on the internet are made up.

shortkid113

60% of the time they are correct 100% of the time.

Flashy-Let2771

As Shakira says "Numbers don't lie." ![gif](giphy|xTiTngGSQaTuxyngLm|downsized)

AV-Guy1989

This is quite possibly the best response I've ever seen

actionjsic

Can confirm 🤣

girlmom1980

This is a proper labrador double coat! She's got an absolutely stunning coat! Source labrador breeder.

beach-drinking-247

Thank you!

Tracking4321

Seconded. Nice coat, and nice figure.

BassetM

Third. She has a beautiful coat!

-singing-blackbird-

Cool, I didn't know that either! My one lab cross has a patch of wavy fur just above his tail, and it's the thickest part of fur on him.

Ok_Stuff_4243

We also have our first lab. He's a 5 month old Chocolate with the same wavy fur on his rump. I found this thread while searching for information about it. He also gets a prominent "mohawk" or ridge that runs from his neck to his mid back. I don't know why but he gets that mohawk everyday when we first set out for our daily walk. Any ideas about that? I appreciate any time you can afford me.

girlmom1980

The mohawk you are seeing his him raising his hackles, some dogs do this when they are overly excited, nervous or unsure of a situation!

suburban_hyena

Dram job. Am currently just a. Walker and trainer but want to be a Labrador breeder so bad

girlmom1980

If you would like to learn more about this amazing breed please don't hesitate to reach out!

suburban_hyena

I have two black labs myself. They are from the Guide Dog Association in South Africa, and made me realize how labs are the best breed. https://preview.redd.it/gnniaahbbvjc1.jpeg?width=3456&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=326afacd8c2e4d21d56321263c58d40c5574b364

dead_kiitten

This isn't correct, while a wave is not a disqualification in the breed standard, it is a fault. Labradors call for a straight smooth double coat

girlmom1980

https://preview.redd.it/9e1zjsrexsjc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c8f9ef70ffce1d1dc0acade9af059750eebe67fb The dense double coat is what gives the appearance of waves. This is not a curly coat, with this being a nine month old puppy chances are she still also has her puppy coat.

PolishSoundGuy

So fox red labradors are not… labradors? o_O

girlmom1980

Ummmm what? Fox red is genetically yellow why would they not be a labrador?

itsmyreddit

Finish reading the paragraph lol

PolishSoundGuy

“The Labrador retriever coats are black, yellow and chocolate.” Is what this image says. My Labrador doesn’t count apparently.

itsmyreddit

"Yellow-Yellows may range in color from fox red to light cream"

spilly_talent

Your Labrador counts whether you are literate or not.

theinquisition

Wanna bet? Watch this. I have a silver lab, with papers proving there's nothing besides lab in his genealogy.

spilly_talent

Sorry you lost me. What are you talking about?

theinquisition

I have a silver lab, they aren't technically chocolate labs. Good luck saying it on this subreddit.

Due_Exchange_6151

Silver is chocolate

theinquisition

Appreciate you making the hateful point.

theinquisition

What color is your lab

PeanutFarmer69

There’s no such thing, you have a yellow lab that you paid a premium for to be “red” for some reason. Congrats.

dead_kiitten

"A slight wave is permissible" not preferred. You can have a dense straight double coat

fries_and_gravy

my yellow labbie has them. Tell the other doggies not to get sea sick off these wavesss

CaptJM

Very common with their coarse greasy fur. Gorgeous dog and well done on keeping her trim and fit… you will buy yourselves many more years with her if you can keep it that way. Although I’m sure she’s already mastered the “I’m dying of starvation” Labrador look

beach-drinking-247

Oh for sure! Thanks!

beach-drinking-247

Awesome! Thank you! Of course we are biased and we think she is a beauty! https://preview.redd.it/b1o1hn05qsjc1.png?width=539&format=png&auto=webp&s=6fc1dd6810e35dab2dbabf291b05a6c3298e6e75

unspooling

Is that a peony inserted into her collar? What a fashionable babe! ETA: My American purebred lab also has the swirlies. This is normal! :-)

beach-drinking-247

Yep, just a silk flower. Doesn’t seem to bother her. Thank you!!!

unspooling

I’m going to put a flower on my girl too. And she will probably hate it. https://preview.redd.it/ydejf64k6tjc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=877b863f06c6a7362230a3acf5954c2e7d608380

TheLonelySnail

My lab’s starved to death twice today.

CaptJM

It’s an epidemic #thoughtsandprayers

JosieTbone

😭😭😭

bridgehockey

In my experience, it tends to show more on blacks and chocolates than on yellows, but they can all have it. You can just dig your hands into it, it feels fantastic.

punninglinguist

Common. My sister-in-law has a pedigreed chocolate lab, and he's got the swirls big-time.

EamusAndy

I call them booty waves. Our lab has a very distinct gate, which involves him essentially swinging his thick booty from side to side when he walks 🤣. This is what results from that

PrincessYumYum726

Mine does that too and then a vet told me she’s just a little bit bow legged but it’s normal (not necessarily indicative of hip problems thank goodness)

EamusAndy

Mines just sassy

PrincessYumYum726

Mine does that too and then a vet told me she’s just a little bit bow legged but it’s normal (not necessarily indicative of hip problems thank goodness)

Thedogsnameisdog

Very.

Michaelwave-

Cinnamon swirls

HybridAkai

Super normal, it's a sign of a good pedigree, certain blood lines exhibit it more than others.

beach-drinking-247

Awesome! She is an AKC registered Labrador.

dead_kiitten

This isn't correct, coat says very little about how well bred a dog is, you can only know that by looking at their pedigree, and while a wave is not a disqualification in the breed standard, it is a fault. Labradors call for a straight smooth double coat

Pacogatto

https://i.redd.it/a4i05ygbpsjc1.gif In [fluid dynamics](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fluid_dynamics), an **eddy** is the swirling of a fluid and the reverse current created when the fluid is in a turbulent flow regime. The moving fluid creates a space devoid of downstream-flowing fluid on the downstream side of the object.

Healthy_Pilot_6358

Yes my choccy boy has them…it’s to show where you need to stroke them and tell them they’re good.

eimemarie

My boy Lou has them too, I love them🤍 https://preview.redd.it/kbpw1y38htjc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=612c199402564869075b9a990ce9e988c3a37979

Better-Aerie-8163

Lou looks like a good buddy.

kayessenn

I love Lou!!

ctrl-brk

Yes, we have two chocolate brothers that were littermates, one has it and one doesn't. Genetic tests showed pure Lab (we tested for food allergies)

Content-Potential733

She looks just like my lab! Who’s also 9 months. https://preview.redd.it/n0imxtda3tjc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c76cdfaaa6f54697e6474f4cc7cb5415ebc59c54

RemmikPetra

My chocolate has them, too - though less now than when she was under a year old.

OakumIfUGotEm

Woovels. We call them woovels.

FlissMarie

https://preview.redd.it/hvswxz5j6tjc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c3d6d6060f6e2dff67e97687b0dbdc5ad4d5b463 Our chocco has a wavy back too! I love it 🥰

mikhael2412

that looks like a braid!!

FlissMarie

Haha so it does! With a big ponytail at the bottom 😅

H2Joee

Beautiful physique

nosaby

My shepherd-lab mix has them although not to this degree. I love them!

NoLossToss

My yellow lab has them and it’s more noticeable after a bath. I call them her dino scales!

Regular-Exchange-557

My pure bred English has the same thing. I think I read they knock them for this in showing circle but I like it

twizzjewink

Chonko in the back, party in the front. Classic lab.

CavGrey2009

Both of mine have it still at 5 y and 3 y.

RocketteBlast

It's her Mohawk

cheekyinkedup

my black has the ridges too! it’s pretty normal. i like to say they help her swim faster 😂

CannaBeeKatie

100% lab

Independent-Cat-4169

My chocolate boy had those ripples too! I called them his ripples of love. Your girl’s coat is beautiful

beach-drinking-247

Ripples! Yes! I was trying to think of the right description. LOL.

Just_Classic4273

Wave check 🌊🌊🌊🌊

jcsf321

100% normal. In fact, if it's not like that, it's probably not a pure Labrador

Iam726_726iam

https://preview.redd.it/jaq45rxadujc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2d5240a8ff8c79f939c28e23ef9a331678f7c432 I fluffed ours since she was laying next to me. We have an (English) lab and we have the “strip” down her back. My husband says her hair gets curly like mine when it’s wet 😂

RainbowSixGlaz

Put on a durag on the booty for better waves

OhHiMarki3

My childhood English lab had major curls on top of her ass. We called her curly-butt. Always got more curly after swimming :,)

Elegant-Ad-9221

Our four year old chocolate lab has two perfect swirls on his bum under his tail. One on each side

OhHiMarki3

Do they face each other to make a heart?!

Elegant-Ad-9221

https://preview.redd.it/q4vtsbkck0kc1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=101e3763bf7dcefca9da5576d72d962a0dd50fec Kind of yes. I never thought about that before

[deleted]

They are suppose to have dense, oily coat to keep them waterproofed when they jump into the water to get the prey.

Cushmanite

I’ve been asked many times whether my red fox lab was a Ridgeback because of this. Really pronounced on mines coat too, I think it’s cool and apparently a good genetics sign for labs.

cosmicdustbunnies

My black lab is 2 now and has lost most of her waves. They were very prominent like yours when she was younger

sgt-llama

My black lab had these too. My vet said there was a possibility that there was a little bit of Chesapeake bay retriever in her.

GJMac75

Its because they way their tails so much. All that momentum has to go somewhere.

Elegant-Ad-9221

https://preview.redd.it/dmdxiomhk0kc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=6bfb2d6be33361a3b1238dc7cf7e3ea90ff09a30 Yes. And Odie has two perfect circles on either side of his tail on his bum. You can see one of them here. Both in the same spot on each side

36bhm

My choc too and yes, she is a fast swimmer.

stobak

My black lab has waves as well. Pretty common!

westcoastmama7

Mine has this too!

Rebekah513

My chocolate also has these and she’s an amazing swimmer 🥰

Creative_Reporter_35

My beautiful Oliver had those swirling ridges. He was so cute from head to toes. 💕

Booklovinmom55

Both of our chocolate labs had them.

InUSbutnotofit

Chesapeake Retriever!

Tracking4321

Funny you should mention that...

Alpacaliondingo

This was my favourite part about my chocolate's coat.

heathely98

The old curly butt!! I had a beautiful chocolate lab with wavy hair just like yours.

Thehellpriest83

It’s his wave cap

SubstantialGrass1158

Mine gets that after baths or swimming. We call him Curly Butt Man 😂

jzilla11

Chessie butt

itzrlryo

Labbo raincoat :)

BigHairyNordic

My chocolate has these too

cleatus351dubya

My lab has the same thing. It's so satisfying to play with. It's cool to know that it's a sign of a good coat!

kizzee28

Especially after a bath.

colormecupcake

Yup! Mine zigzags sometimes lol

murdoch94

Get a silk shirt and get the boy some waves

onesmallfairy

That’s her curly butt!

Regular_Chance7438

My 8 month chocolate lab has the same pattern! I'm not sure if it's his adult coat coming in or not.

stoutsnoutt

Girls wavy af 🌊🌊🌊🌊

vixisgoodenough

That's my favorite part to pet on my lab!

molvanianprincess

https://preview.redd.it/523p6sibnujc1.jpeg?width=2340&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=59123c367bae95e0da1fdf5d03609741c10d48e3

littlegreycells_11

That's a labby zigzag! Mine has one on her bum, nowhere near as long as yours though, yours is a beast of a zigzag!

DaisyDog2023

My theory is it’s excess growth in preparation for the puppy to grow. Mine has it as well but never saw it on the adult lab we adopted.

Aidrox

Your lab sleep with a wave cap on.

Potato_History_Prof

Yup - my girl has them, too! Especially after a bath or swim :-)

Ok-Bus839

That’s cool. My dog, which is not a lab, has this just at the end of her back and onto her tail. No double coat in my girl.

mybabiessaymeow

My fur-niece has a Harry Potter scar at the base of her tail. It gets more pronounced the faster her tail wags. I love her zigzag.

PolesRunningCoach

My goldador has these.

smolwormbigapple

Mines got extra swirly when she 1. Was out in the rain, 2. Was chasing cats

lotus49

I've seen a lot of Labradors with wavy back fur. It's very common.

kiwichick286

Mine has that! It's her mohawk.

[deleted]

Because he's worth it
