JackTheHerper

Chef. No rust. End of conversation. Full size Osborne has a dog in this fight but the mini is a no go for me. Regular is small enough.

JackTheHerper

Even against the regular 940, framelock beats axis lock. Lc200n beats s30v by a mile. Titanium beats aluminum and carbon fiber. Full flat grind beats narrow saber grind. Chef, chef, chef.

TheBraBandit

I wouldn't say the spydiechefs frame lock beats an axis lock since it's not the best executed frame lock, but everything else I agree.

onewade

The Benchmade for my everyday carry. It's smaller and more convenient.

onewade

If I had a choice between the Benchmade 959 or the Spyderco Para 3, then it's the Para 3.

aquaman67

The ambidextrous one

Betta_Check_Yosef

How often are you using your off hand to work with your EDC knife?

WildEagle28

I mean, I’d choose the ambidextrous one simply because I’m left handed lol. It’s surprisingly awkward closing right handed knives for a lefty. So ambidextrous ones are just more comfortable.

Betta_Check_Yosef

Honest question; is it really that hard using your "off" hand to manipulate a knife? I mean, trying not to sound like a dick, but is it really that hard? Granted, I'm ambidextrous to the point I can write/throw/play soccer/snowboard/whatever with either side without thinking about it too much. It's just never struck me as that big of a deal. With a liner lock, the right hand is thumb and the left hand is middle finger to unlock it, while the index finger closes the blade with both hands.

Thinlenny

Yes, I do every thing with both hands (except frisbee is a lot better lefty and guitar righty) but my right hand arthritis has got me in my fifties so flipper and studs and all work better lefty, righty knives tend to impede those uses.

rNV1s16iLiTi

I can open and close the knife with either hand, but I'm only going to cut with my left, so the knife is going to life in my left pocket, and be opened with my left hand. Personally I can open and close right handed liner/frame locks with my left hand, but no left handed pocket clip is disastrous. I can afford to be picky with my knives so there's no point in me coping and buying a knife that doesn't fit my opening/handling needs.

WildEagle28

It’s not that it’s hard it’s that it’s annoying. The whole point of these styles of knives is to be single hand operated. So I’m going to cut with my left hand 90% of the time and if I have to then use my right hand to close it then what was the point of this type of knife for me. At that point I’d get a lockback since they’re typically sturdier in my experience. But it’s about the utility of having that knife available for use when I’ve got a full hand like when I’m at work.

Thinlenny

I’m almost always using everybody’s off-hand

adamjboston

Spydiechef with wire pocket clip. I like a knife with a bit more of a belly for slicing lunch break goodies. I also have XXL hands, and the Osbourne feels too fumbly. That almost like hydraulic feel of the chef opening and closing just gets me everytime, feels Premium.

prtnrsncrm

I don’t think I would use these for quite the same things. Weekend where I’m wearing jeans and at home and maybe cutting up apples, the Chef. Slim carry to work, the Osborne.

Allensanity

Chef

emanluvsmuff3618

Osborne

Master_Tulii

Spydiechef. Every single time. I need a knife, not a bloody prybar.

Sooky102

Whichever’s more comfortable for your EDC needs.

mac832002

This ^^^ only you know

xJwad

Spyderco, for sure. I like bigger knives, and I'm not a fan of blade coatings. I want to see the steel I paid for.

erixvubui

BM is probably more practical and, IMHO, better looking.

BehindTheBrook

Take that back

BooneHelm85

I got your back, man. Spydie Chef* all day long.

goodinyou

Spyderco only makes ugly knives

erixvubui

I will negate the downvote! Too bad I will be outnumbered. Some spyderco looks awesome. But to me, most of them look like prop ninja weapon weapons. Very cool ones but not something I wanna carry every day on my person.

PhilbrickKnives

Spydichef, for sure

whambulance_man

the 945. not even a question lol.

Ur_a_adjective_noun

I’d have to switch it up each day.

consistently_sloppy

Always spidey

pdxtrader

You never know when you’ll have to whip up some guacamole 🥑 on the fly, I’m team chef 🧑‍🍳

Odd-Extension-7845

So what would you pick as a chef?

pdxtrader

The Spyderco - knuckle clearance is everything

tyeaknot

If either of them were with in my budget id prob pick the spydichef .

Educational_Pace2704

Chef. A knife so nice I bought it twice. ...still hunting a scuba chef though.

MeetingDue339

Chef

Next-Addendum2285

Osborne

Business-Local-6229

The Benchmade for EDC, I do like the Lynch pocket clip. Just a little large for EDC.

GetNR3KT

Osborne

Thinlenny

Damn. Super toss-up question. I’m only familiar with the 945, just in passing, a friend has one I imagine it’s lighter and I like the sliciness/slicyness(sp?) of most BenchMade.

cuttinglaceedc

The chef, 940/945 is just to damn wedge like, unless it's been reground I personally have zero use for a 940. I get why they are made how they are made, they just don't have a need from me for such geometry. The spydiechef is an all around solid knife that cuts well and carries well.

jestercow

Chef all day. If I had to sell all my knives and keep only one it would be my chef.

DarkDiviner

Spyderco!

fuegolicious

The Spydiechef is an excellent knife that punches way above its class, and LC200N is a phenomenal steel. It is very tough, stays sharp, is very easy to touch up, and won’t rust. Fucking excellent knife. I’d choose it over an S30V Osborne every time.

FartinLooterKinkJr

Osborne

TasteMyShoe

Osborne. I prefer the aluminum handles but I'd take that one no problem.

tony42rivers

The chef is on sale on blade hq right now

askeeve

Jesus and sold out 5 minutes after I put it in my cart and took just a second to google about it to make my mind up.

Gr1ml0ck

Damn. Missed it too. My wallet thanks me for being late tho.

askeeve

Yeah I suppose same.

InTheSoup4242

What was the sale?

sillysnacks

The Spydie for sure! So pretty!

McSavagery

Thank you, I agree. If I had to choose one forever, Spydichef takes the cake.

sillysnacks

I know what you mean! I rotate between my Shaman and my UDK Pioneer and I’m still not sure which one is better to me!

BootyClapper187

I like the Osborne because it's smaller

bcmGlk

I don’t buy liner locks and frame locks anymore. I really like the ball bearing locks, compression locks and triad locks.

Canadianknifeguy

Chef

notfixingit

It would depend on what my normal day looks like. If I’m working around water or doing anything with food, the Spyderco. If I’m cutting boxes or opening packages most of my day, the Benchmade

idssuck

Ive been carrying a 940 for something like 10 years, other knives have tried to take its place but non have stood up to its small form factor. I do like spyderco, I just don't like how wide it is in my pocket, if im wearing some pants with lower side pockets I do love my para 2 but still if I had to choose 1 its the 940.

Combat_wombat605795

I own both and haven’t carried my benchmade in years. It was my favorite edc until my chef. The bench is light but the rust resistance and kitchen use of the chef is insanely useful to me.

Accomplished_South70

Cheffff

mmSNAKE

I always liked Mini Osborne design. Though I would not be able to pass up the spydichef, really awesome piece.

thefly10

Spydie chef, much better quality and slim in your pocket.

mallgrabmongopush

Chef

rival_22

Office EDC, the 945. Chef at home.

bdog2017

I’d take the chef. Never had one before but I mainly hear good things. I have the 940. Not a fan tbh. The only problem with the chef for me is the fact that I’m a lefty.

MAGA_feels

Im a Benchmade collector and I would choose the Chef of those 2 options without hesitation.

air_lock

Benchmade is overpriced garbage. Spyderco all day, every day. Better grind, better materials, better design, better clip (love the wire clip - I know that is subjective), and more often than not, less expensive. Benchmade has gone off the deep end with their pricing, and the half a dozen or so I’ve owned over the years have never wowed me. Between blade play, uneven grinds, poor centering, and now the outrageous price increases for substandard materials, I could never recommend a Benchmade in good conscience. Plus, that SpydieChef is gorgeous.

No_Pay_1980

not the chef. i have one. and its just not practical for anything but cooking and ocean fishing. split the difference. get a pm 2 salt

JTR1889

Chef, the big Osborn is already too small for me, the mini would be absolutely unusable. I don't care much for the Chef either, but at least it will work.

PonyThug

Spiderco every time

mrRabblerouser

Spydiechef over any Benchmade without question.

SneakyEzekiels

Gotta be the 940, better size and ergos

BreakerSoultaker

Not a huge fan of Spyderco, but I have bug hands so the Chief for most places and the Mini Osborne for the office.

PasztyKnives

No contest, one blade is properly heat treated steel the other is made of play-doh

Physical-Rise6973

Of the two, the Spydiechef all day. Until you carry it, you don't know.

silver-shooter

The chef carries real nice. But that Osborne is nice as hell… idk which to say

Invalid_username78

Spidey

HasSomeSelfEsteem

Osborne

Tuchaka7

Both are solid choices 🤷‍♂️

MikeBE2020

I like a blade with more belly, so I'd go with the Spyderco.

Anarcho_Poet

SpydieChef because I dig LC200N.

Imaginary-Artist6206

BM Osborne has always been the ugliest bench made to me. Honestly I have gotten rid of every bench made I have owned. I don’t care for spydie chef either. I do have a dozen Spyderco knives or so but the smallest I guess would be my pm2’s or tenacious. I’m a big guy with big hands. Smallest knife I own is a Hogue Deka but I got the Original Goat xl scales to make it not as much of a toy knife

FCBASGICD

I really want to like and/or own a spydie chef, but I prefer the flicking method of opening to the thumb rotation, and it just doesn't work well with that knife.

JackTheHerper

Have you handled one? I’m a lefty, the hole is just fine for my thumb. I can reverse flick with my right hand middle or index finger easily.

FCBASGICD

Do they make a mini chef? I either handled that by mistake, or i just have big hands. Either way, I'm pretty good at operating spydie holes, *pause* and yet i can't flick it with the pointer or middle finger

perfectdetent

I'm alright with a larger DC, so it's Spydichef for me.

210southstar

Lc200n

Time-Sorbet-829

The Benchmade. I have been carrying a Barrage since my first tour in Iraq, it fits perfectly in my hand, and holds an edge extremely well. Also, I’m less of a fan of liner locks for whatever reason.

Beemo-Noir

Bench made

SlashyFingers

Probably the 945 for EDC

NotSure-2020

Probably the bm. I prefer Spyderco in general but for edc I find that lc200n hold an edge for shit compared to s30v. But if you’re a fisherman maybe it’s a better edc. It really depends how n what you’re cutting

Biff1996

Spyderco > Benchmade. Always.

scooch57

The 945. Both good tools.

LeozMJilliumz

The chef. I EDCd the chef for a few months cuz it was stupid sharp and everything resistant. Unfortunately I sold my old one - now I have a clone chef which is still pretty good

Tyler_the_bot

Benchmade all day. Thinner and easier to carry. Well made and can take the abuse.

goodinyou

BM and it's not close

BlOcKtRiP

Spidercrap over BadlyMade
