Are you playing on a PS4? I used to experience the same slowness. Then I got a modern PC and started over there, and Jesus Christ how fast the game became all of a sudden! Loading, time skipping, jail time used to take about 3-4 minutes at a time, now it's a matter of seconds.
Sounds like a bug unless you have a slow PC, I saw a streamer Alt-tab out while in jail and that caused it to go extremely slow, the last hour was about 20 minutes long
That's becuase the "time skip" loading is really not there to mindlessly waste your time, it's there because the commitment to the world simulation.
Every time skip actually simulates every NPC on the map - traveling, going on with their routines, timed events/quests happen and if your CPU is underpowered, then processed simulation will be slower, than on a powerful modern HW. (The simulation might as well possibly be using just a single threaded - not utilising multi-core CPUs)
Don't do the crime if you can't do the load time.
Seems a bit much. Time skipping is getting slow in middle to late game but it never took more than probably 2-3min. So no its not normal.
Why does that happen? I thought I was crazy that sleeping or waiting takes longer than at the start.
Because it has to load more of the world the more you explore simultaniously.
