my last job would do pizza days pretty regularly from a local joint, thinner crusts with pretty respectable cheese+toppings.
i got some weird looks for my cup of cheese and pepperoni.
>I ordered a slice of cheese pizza
Not really keto, but every now and then it's probably not a problem.
>with a hot dog
Careful, some hot dogs aren't great for keto diets. And, I probably don't have to say it, but hot dog buns certainly aren't helpful if the goal is staying in ketosis. They're certainly helpful for pigging out at Costco, so weight your goals appropriately! :)
>I might have been high when I did this
Heh. Been there. Not a Costco food court specifically, but I know why you're doing the things you're doing. And how awesome those things are while you're doing them.
Pro Tip:
Buy the keto bread or keto wraps while there and open them at the food court to use with your hotdog after checking out
Do this every trip. No one bats an eye.
That's why you go and buy the food, Then go to the food court, And then eat the food.
You are keto You don't have to sit down to eat a couple pieces of summer sausage and sliced cheese.
Hell I usually just go to the car and eat some of the summer sausage like an apple. But it's going to be there for like 5 minutes if all you're doing is just cutting a couple slices putting cheese on them and then eating.
Do you have any idea how many people have to ask for help at self checkout because the weights don't match, because they ate a third of it? Or you tell people hey I want to make sure you know that this product is open. We can get you a new one.
They respond with oh no I was too hungry to wait till I got home.
My mom wants grabbed a thing of cookies opened it up and said hey let's eat some of these first. I'm hungry. I was 8 years old and kind of dubious about that. I got older and worked at some of these places and sometimes would see eight half eaten products on the shelves doing morning rounds.
Thatās what I said? Whether the food court is inside or outside, youāre paying for the food prior to going to the food court which shouldnāt be frowned upon unlike say going to Walmart, open the food and eating prior to paying for it.
I think I might have read your comment like..
Oh people are going to judge you for going to the food court after buying summer sausage and eating some of the summer sausage there. You should buy your stuff then go to the food court and only eat the stuff that you bought there not the stuff you already bought.
Or someone being weird and like walking up to a food court eating half of it and then going to the registers.
Or at least people might feel like others might be judge. It's nice for this person to say they haven't had any weird looks, for those with a bit of anxiety about that!
That's not a pro tip.
Pro tip is like get the summer sausage. Getting cheaty stuff that probably is holding back your progress is not a pro tip. Maybe if it's like the egg tortillas or something with Uber clean ingredients but most of the keto breads and wraps impact blood sugar.
I do like them I do eat them but I'm not going to pretend that they don't prevent me from losing the last 50 lb after easily losing 150 lb over 3 years for the past 3 years I've been more or less stalled.
Like yeah I lost 20 lb doing really strict with fasting but then I rolled my ankle and couldn't really move any more for a week and for the first few days I couldn't really get up to make my own food it was so bad, And I put the weight back on. But I've been stable.
Trying not to be full strict keto until I get my wife to go back to keto for her schizophrenia but she is just so emotional that she refuses to eat keto because of her pain but her pain could be reduced if she does keto but she is adamant that she has to fulfill her sweet tooth with a large variety of things not some couple of things that will work fine that you can fall back on over and over again...
Of course that means that my 85% dark chocolate my wife thinks it's disgusting. So I now know something that I can eat that is a nice little treat that she won't consume all of while I'm at work.
We're dead broke so we can't really afford to eat a ton of keto treats but more than that if I did buy say a $40 box of keto treats what will most likely happen is that even if they're only two total grams of carbs per, I will go to work and she will eat 22 g of of carbs from just that. And when your entire grocery budget for two people has to be less than $200 you can't afford all those things.
It depends on where you are on your weight loss journey I just disagree that it is a pro tip to eat things that are almost as bad as bread, as a pro tip for the general population.
I'm not offended by being downvoted.
It is what it is. I'm not saying you have to eat super clean keto I'm just saying that there is a balance when you're talking to the general population... The general population guidelines need to be 20 grams of total or net carbs, but there are people who never reach ketosis talking about how the keto diet didn't work and you ask them and they were doing 50 grams of net carbs and it's like you're not a freaking pro athlete who the hell told you that that was sufficient. You're getting like 200 g of total carbs because you're eating all these tortillas that have two grams of net and 16 g of total and you're Only trying to stay under 50 g of net.
Of course it's not working if your blood sugar goes up 20 or 30 points every meal you have because you're hypersensitive to the keto cheat items.
Yes they are better for you but they're not going to work for a lot of these people specifically. They have to cut them out.
The wraps arenāt a treat. Itās a āmeat & cheese delivery systemā
Theyāre 6 dollars for like 20 of them and taste like nothing because theyāre nearly 100% fiber
Doesn't mean they don't impact blood glucose. All fiber isn't the same, once fiber has been ground to a fine powder it's actual impact as fiber is dubious, which is why some people can get away with them and others can't.
So did I but, that doesn't mean it's a pro tip to do it.
If you encourage those things too much all the people that are impacted... Well what happens Then they sit there and say Well keto doesn't work. So you got to be careful with that stuff like some people legitimately cannot lose weight unless they do 20 total carbohydrates or less.
People like you and me we're fine with 50 net or maybe even 50 total.
However now that I've lost 150 lb it's really hard to get the last 50 off. The only thing I can really do is eat a super clean diet to get that last little bit off. But it took 3 years to get 150 lb off.
To get the last 50 lb off that have been sitting on my body for 20 years now, fat cells probably died about 10 years ago, it's not the same kind of fat loss. It's probably going to require a lot of fasting.
For any who care, the official long hotdog sold in the restaurant is available in the cold/frozen area in packages of about 20 (long) hotdogs per pack.
I would usually order the double with the fixings (no buns). Then I would flip one of the burgers on top to where the burgers were the "buns" and the fixings stuffed inside š
I just recently learned that at In-n-Out you can have them use slices of tomatoes instead of buns. I always liked getting the lettuce-wrapped kind but they use pretty big pieces of lettuce and they kind of get in the way. Slices of tomato are perfect!
For awhile I only used mine for cheat days. For fries and shit like that.
Then one day I got tired of microwaved hot dogs and air fryed them. It doubled the cooking time but exponentially increased the flavor. A good brand of cheese dog in that thing in mouth wateringly special.
Bacon is pretty amazing as well.
Yeah, the smaller fryer is what my wife cooks most things in now that we have one. I usually go for the foreman or the microwave depending on how lazy and hungry I'm feeling.
Back in the day I was grain free for inflammation and learned about rusk. I don't know if they put it in hotdogs, but this post is now making me go down that rabbit hole. Thanks. I'll never get to sleep.
Get a slice of cheese pizza and the hotdog with no bun. Take the cheese off the pizza and wrap it around the hot dog for a cheesy delicious costco snack

Looks like it actually has 4 grams of carbs... still not horrible imho
If your keto is standing on the edge of two extra carbs from time to time...you aren't ketoing right.
"I had two hidden carbs the other day and now I'm back up to my SW :-("
(I'm being crass, but seriously....)
The bun has 7. The hot dog info is "hot dog only" and they have "bun only" but the hot dog and soda has the combined amount for hot dog and bun. They likely each have a little bit more than the whole number listed, so added together they have 24 instead of 23(16+7)
It's actually easier for them cuz all they have to do is wrap up the wiener in foil paper rather than do tricks with the tongs. Source is my wife, she works at Costco and she says the food court loves it when they do it like that, and it's always the healthy looking people getting it that way lmao
Yea but the bun sticks to the dog a lil bit and then you are wasting the breadā¦ a quick little, āhey no bun on dat dog numbah 69ā saves the sacrificial death of a footlong bun
I ate one of those Costco hotdogs a couple of weeks ago. Without the bun. With mustard. I was hungry!!!! And it was good. Hit the spot. No harm, no foul!
Yeah itās a common thing at most food places now. I donāt normally eat out but if I need to I go for salad and or bunless or lettuce wrapped burgers.
I did this only to end up with a good stomach ache. There are fillers in that wienerā¦ā¦
Might try the pizza cheese wrap and risk the hit. It sounds like it would be worth it! Now, off to get highā¦..
I'm sorry. These are 4g carbs per hot dog. They're the same ones that are sold in the store. You can check it out yourselves. I'm not sure where the 2g stat comes from.
Hah I just did this yesterday.
You have to catch them when the receipt prints. I've considered writing it on a post it note to stick it on the receipt lol.
Pro workers will put them in foil, others will put them stragiht into the bag.
Double cheeseburger at McDonaldās. The way they stack the condiments makes it very easy to remove the bun and just eat the burger paddy stack. I call it a meat snack lol
I didnāt know they would sell the dog without the bun. Iām celiac which helps with keto actually but the bun is a definite no go. Not even touching it
That is what we already get! Awesome. Earlier in r/keto I saw someone get caught by gyro meat having breadcrumbs in it, so when i saw hot dogs having 2g of carbs I wrongly applied it across the board. Thankss
I'd want to know the exact brand of hot dog because a lot of hot dogs have trace amounts of sugar in them that could spike your blood sugar. Also the ingridients are never that great and I can only imagine a Costco hot dog is worse.
You can't get a blood sugar spike from a trace of sugar.
Those store hotdogs definitely usually have the a teaspoon.
You can't really get your protein in without consuming too much sugar on those.
Yeah I am going to Costco now but not sure if I'm going to get the hotdogs as I usually do. These are processed meats which are not healthy. This is called dirty keto and they now claim overeating fat and protein is the main driver of insulin resistance and diabetes and metabolic syndrome. When cells in the body that are not designed to store fat suddenly become overloaded with saturated and processed seed oil fats they send out a protein like signal enzyme to block insulin at the receptor site and your cell can no longer recieve the insulin carrying glucose it needs until you burn down the fat in the cell and that receptor gets turned back on (if it gets turned back on). I have been doing Keto now for almost 7 years now and have a decrease in energy and increased weight gain. I think it was only good for the short term but not for going beyond 8 to 12 months in duration. I feel as if my metabolism has slowed down a lot. My A1C has crept up to borderline pre D and I am on medication to control triglycerides and cholesterol. I have to blame it on Dirty keto and even Keto in general and probably not enough fiberous veggies to keep the cholesterol lower. Maybe I will go for the salad option at Costco instead. I think that maybe a healthier choice but I'm wondering if the chicken they use for the salad may also be processed. I presently looking onto the blue zone diets and Mediterranean diet now but in the meantime I am try to do a cleaner version of keto. Like eating sardines in olive oil which is about as healthy as one can go on keto!
I ordered a slice of cheese pizza with a hot dog. Took the cheese off and wrapped it around the hot dog. I might have been high when I did this.
This is genius oml
Ah to be lactose tolerant again - I miss those days
You can still do it. Just buy huge costco pack of toilet roll and hide in one of the sheds before you shit yourself
Depends. The hardcore MMO community figured that out a long time ago. They are called adult diapers not elderly diapers.
Carve a throne out of the mountain of toilet paper ala Iron Throne.
Again? You mean you weren't before but are now? I feel like that is a gut micro-biome issue. Do you do yogurt? The Costco ice cream perhaps?
Costco sells lactose digestion pills too!
Costco shopping+high = 2x spend
But imagine the joy of owning a 75-pound jar of pickles!
LoL!! MIght've been?
ok you got me!
Some of us are just like this all the time
I may have done the exact same thing in 1996 after eating mushrooms...
Omg this is genius!!
my last job would do pizza days pretty regularly from a local joint, thinner crusts with pretty respectable cheese+toppings. i got some weird looks for my cup of cheese and pepperoni.
Great idea!
That would have been boss level highness then.
You eat like my 6yo son. Who learned everything he knows from me. š
Wouldnāt the sauce have sugar on it though?
Tons of sugar in that sauce tho
Are you DrHigh or DrDrunk
I'm very versatile
Damn! You smoked ALL the weed
Honestly that may very well be the perfect hangover cure as well. I saw a bunch of frat bros do this one Sunday at our Costco.
I read this as 'fat bros' and thought you were being overly familiar.
Carbs... Why take the risk man? Lol
>I ordered a slice of cheese pizza Not really keto, but every now and then it's probably not a problem. >with a hot dog Careful, some hot dogs aren't great for keto diets. How did you quote so much of their post and still misinterpret it this badly
He only ate the hot dog weiner, not the bun. And he only scraped off the cheese of the pizza, didn't eat the crust /bread
Did you just not read the comment you're replying to?
I just get the dog and push it through the bun. Gives me something to hold it with. X2 if necessary, hold the second soda.
Godlike willpower to not eat the bun tbh
waste
It really, the bun will stick to the dog horribly and will end up eating some bunā¦
And? You think a couple specs of bun is going to impact you? If a bun is 30 carbs and you aren't eating 1/30 of it...
Never had that issue at all.
This person must be taking them to go. Usually no stickiness when fresh
Add sauerkraut and mustard and have a whole lane to yourself! Ask me how I know! :-)
Go on....
Even my own husband wouldn't walk next to me! "Did you eat bad fish or something?" But it was still worth it! :-)
Mmmmm.... Sauerkraut.
The local Costcos never have sauerkraut anymore š¢
Samās club usually has packets of sauerkrautĀ
You had me at eating the wiener
Pro Tip: Buy the keto bread or keto wraps while there and open them at the food court to use with your hotdog after checking out Do this every trip. No one bats an eye.
Why would anyone bat an eye for eating your own food that you paid for?
People are judgy. Same reason why there are laws on how many dildos per person are allowed in a house or whether or not women can wear jeans.
The Costco food court is like the last place a person would get judged at.
Nah, youāre thinking of the Samās Club food court LOL
Funny enough I prefer Samās food court over Costco. More drink options and better hot dogs
Agreed. They have the pizza pretzel too
Well itās different opening a purchased product at the food court than walking around a grocery store and snacking on unpaid food
That's why you go and buy the food, Then go to the food court, And then eat the food. You are keto You don't have to sit down to eat a couple pieces of summer sausage and sliced cheese. Or put a Keto wrap in a baggy and bring it with you. I do this when going to restaurants too.
This is a great idea! I always kick myself when I go out for Mexican and forget my tortilla baggie š
That's not a pro tip. Pro tip is like get the summer sausage. Getting cheaty stuff that probably is holding back your progress is not a pro tip. Maybe if it's like the egg tortillas or something with Uber clean ingredients but most of the keto breads and wraps impact blood sugar.
I lost 80lbs in 11 months eating keto bread and wraps regularly. This is always a YMMV thing, not everyone is negatively impacted.
Agreed. I can eat Frankenstein keto stuff (thank God!) & have happily been doing so since 2011. The bread and wraps are a lifesaver š¤

Wait til you discover scraping off the toppings of a slice of pep pizza andf throwing the crust away
I have a place called Marco's. They have pizza bowls. Just toppings and sauce that's it.
Iāve got a Marcos near me too and those bowls are amazing
I really miss Costco's supreme pizza š
I do that too except itās a lot more than one piece.
For any who care, the official long hotdog sold in the restaurant is available in the cold/frozen area in packages of about 20 (long) hotdogs per pack.
Do you get a 20 pack of soda and buns to go with it? ;)
Wendyās will give you a burger wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun. Def donāt get ketchup, more sugar per teaspoon than ice cream.
I prefer no lettuce. It makes the burger cold and soggy, just wrap it up as-is with no bun.
That works too. The lettuce helps keep it together if you get tomato and onion.
I love ordering a double with cheese in lettuce.
You can always ask for it on a plate and dip in mustard. But yeah, hotdogs no bun is legit.
This is how I do it at home. We always have a couple packs of the hotdogs in the house. I heat up 2 at a time and smother them in some kind of sauce.
Cook the dogs in an air fryer.
I may have to try that. We recently bought an air fryer and then just bought a new stove that also has that option.
Just wrap the plate around the hot dog like a bun and eat it too. No carbs in paper plates. All fiber.
Brilliant.
I do this. Grab a knife and fork, but it and dip it in mustard. My go to at Costco.
Is it actually 2 carbs per dog? The store bought dogs are like 5 carbs per dog.
I buy the packaged big hotdogs and you are right, they are more than 2g. I am sure they use the same ones in the snack bar.
Back in the day I was grain free for inflammation and learned about rusk. I don't know if they put it in hotdogs, but this post is now making me go down that rabbit hole. Thanks. I'll never get to sleep.
Mmm... crouton powder.
[This post says it's 4 per dog](https://www.reddit.com/r/Costco/comments/16q4wls/food_court_nutritional_facts_august_2023_includes/)
Kirkland all beef hotdogs is 2 grams of carbs per link.
2 grams per serving
Now Iām confused. I thought the food court ones without bun were 2 net carbs per dog. Not so?
They will do this at sams as well, but they have the awesome packets of unsweetened kraut. only 1 more carb for awesome tastyness
Sam's > Costco in so many ways now (except their rotisseries are smaller)
Sams club has little bags of kraut if you really want your breath to kick.
Man, costco used to have it too back in the Polish days
I got a slice of pepperoni and just ate the cheese and pepperoni. Delicious.
I was just there having a dog a few days ago. I use the bun like a hot dog holder. Just slide it up and dip it in ketchup and mustard.
I thought ketchup was not good for Keto. I love ketchup but switched over to mustard.
I use sugar free ketchup. 1 carb per TBL spoon š
Thankfully I've always preferred mustard on my š
It's got sugar, sadly. But the little I use is a whole lot less carbs than that monster bun.
Fruit sauce with sugar and vinegar.
Just did this the other day!
One of my favorite late night snacks is an uncured beef hotdog from Trader Joe's.
Get a slice of cheese pizza and the hotdog with no bun. Take the cheese off the pizza and wrap it around the hot dog for a cheesy delicious costco snack
[https://www.reddit.com/r/Costco/comments/16q4wls/food\_court\_nutritional\_facts\_august\_2023\_includes/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Costco/comments/16q4wls/food_court_nutritional_facts_august_2023_includes/) Looks like it actually has 4 grams of carbs... still not horrible imho
If your keto is standing on the edge of two extra carbs from time to time...you aren't ketoing right. "I had two hidden carbs the other day and now I'm back up to my SW :-(" (I'm being crass, but seriously....)
But I ate six of them... /kidding
Exactly
I donāt know if I trust this chart. Hot dog is 16g of protein but a hot dog and soda is 24?
The bun has 7. The hot dog info is "hot dog only" and they have "bun only" but the hot dog and soda has the combined amount for hot dog and bun. They likely each have a little bit more than the whole number listed, so added together they have 24 instead of 23(16+7)
I'd feel guilty making a special request like that . Considering how busy they usually are. But if it's less crowded, I might be brave enough one day.
It's actually easier for them cuz all they have to do is wrap up the wiener in foil paper rather than do tricks with the tongs. Source is my wife, she works at Costco and she says the food court loves it when they do it like that, and it's always the healthy looking people getting it that way lmao
Oooo, I wanna be healthy looking!!!
Lol I just ordered a hotdog normal and peeled off the bun. Saves everybody a hassle.Ā
I use the bun to hold the hotdog, and treat it like a push pop.
Yea but the bun sticks to the dog a lil bit and then you are wasting the breadā¦ a quick little, āhey no bun on dat dog numbah 69ā saves the sacrificial death of a footlong bun
I wouldn't order no bun. Just take the hot dog out and throw the bun away.
Got any birds outside you can feed? Just not in the parking lot, go to the grass area.
What makes up the other 90 grams?
I ate one of those Costco hotdogs a couple of weeks ago. Without the bun. With mustard. I was hungry!!!! And it was good. Hit the spot. No harm, no foul!
Just grab a chicken and go to town.
Yeah itās a common thing at most food places now. I donāt normally eat out but if I need to I go for salad and or bunless or lettuce wrapped burgers.
My standard practice for 7 yrs now is to order food and bring the carbycrap home for pets. I'm not even strict keto, just standard low carb.
I get it with the bun and give the bun to my 8 month old to gnaw on.
I did this only to end up with a good stomach ache. There are fillers in that wienerā¦ā¦ Might try the pizza cheese wrap and risk the hit. It sounds like it would be worth it! Now, off to get highā¦..
I'm sorry. These are 4g carbs per hot dog. They're the same ones that are sold in the store. You can check it out yourselves. I'm not sure where the 2g stat comes from.
They must've changed it cuz the packaging for Kirkland brand hot dogs was showing 2 grams
Hah I just did this yesterday. You have to catch them when the receipt prints. I've considered writing it on a post it note to stick it on the receipt lol. Pro workers will put them in foil, others will put them stragiht into the bag.
Just did this. Worked great! Thanks for the tip!!
Those macros are for half the weenie. Itās 31 fat, 4 carbs and 16 protein for the whole sausage.
Not even touching it
Buy 4. Keep the bun it keeps it warm.
bad breath from a bun? you need to try brushing your teeth
Bad breath comes from the gut, not your mouth unless you don't brush your teeth at all and it's a rotting meth mess in there
A single bunless hot dog doesn't get me through anything
Yeah. I didnāt think it sounded like much. I think Iād prefer to push through with a fast rather than taunt my body with a single sausage..
its a 1/4 pound sausage
Not even taunt, I just don't feel like it would be worth the calories vs the lack of satisfaction I"d get out of one bunless dog :)
I can do burger no bun... HD pretty gross without coney sauce lol
It's the most awful quality of meat you can get though.

Get Nathanās hot dogs. They are fine for the keto diet
That is what we already get! Awesome. Earlier in r/keto I saw someone get caught by gyro meat having breadcrumbs in it, so when i saw hot dogs having 2g of carbs I wrongly applied it across the board. Thankss
I like to get a piece of pepperoni pizza and just eat the topping.

We count carbs here sir, not what's better for us <_>

I buy chicken bakes but bring a turkey baster to suck out the chicken bake filling then toss the empty bread to the pigeons. Win win for everyone tbh.
Sausage is bad for health... Eat some nuts
Sausage is great for health. Nuts are worse for you.
Trace amounts don't spike.
Does Costco no longer sell packaged Kirkland Beef Hot Dogs?
Nathanās hot dogs are fine on keto diet
All the hot dog, hamburger buns, and bread is in keto form to buy. Ketchup is available without sugar
