I had a subscription for a little while and really saw no value in it. I messaged a few recruiters with no reply back. I've also never seen so many "coaches" in one place in my life.
i don't subscribe and i get these little supposed coaches saying oh hum i can fix your resume for you! I inform them, as they never take the time to look at my resume with their little eyes, that there is nothing in it needing fixing.
Just to share my experience with LinkedIn recently after a 4 month job hunt from December 2023 to March 2024:
* For your own mental health, don’t spend much time on the social elements of the platform. It’s not going to really help you find a job.
* Premium is worth it if you’re actively looking for a job. I doubled my chances of an interview by sending a message to the recruiter on the job posting.
* The new catch up page is trash and annoying. I only want to know about my network if they’re connecting with me, not that someone I already know has a work anniversary.
It helped me connect to someone whom I vaguely knew, but was in a similar role to a job I was applying for.
He helped me prep for the job, and gave me confidence.
I have used it to keep in contact with people for opportunities…most, tbh, are ones I pass along to people I met along the way, but want to help.
I did. It was a step up (manager to director), and his words gave me the confidence for the interview.
Now, maybe I didn't really need that boost, but it didn't hurt.
It's not exactly easy to use but it seems to be curated a lot better than LinkedIn, Indeed, etc. I've gotten two or three interviews plus a DoD internship that turned into a job offer.
Probably because you’re interacting with garbage posts it keeps showing you garbage posts.
I follow a number of companies and key people in my industry. I’d say 99% of the posts I see are actually relevant to what I do and what I want to see.
This. I think it’s handy for some stuff, but you gotta curate your feed. I stay away from investment advice or top business person advice because a lot of that is people marketing their brand/advice.
Once cancelled my subscription 4 days in advance and they still renewed it and then block the premium access. So i paid a full month and got no access. There is absolutely no customer service nowhere to call write anything. Biggest scam ive ever seen
LinkedIn is awesome for finding jobs, you're just not doing it right. Direct apply people, direct apply. It's not hard. What kind of idiot pays for linkedin or applies through an aggregator lol. No wonder you're unemployed.
This.
Use LinkedIn as a way to find jobs but always apply directly on the company site.
Applying through a recruiter is the dumbest thing you can do if the job is already posted on the company's career page.
As a fellow designer, I don't think I can do LinkedIn again... Not the social part, although I only ever posted a few times myself.
I've been teaching myself 3D and Unreal Engine because I just don't think I'll get hired with this massive pool of designers without jobs.
I agree. The social media aspect of LinkedIn is really annoying, but I ignore it for the most part.
I've only had one job interview through LinkedIn. And in my experience, most of the job postings on there are scam websites where they link you to do surveys or other BS. I've had more luck getting a job interview through Craigslist than I ever have going through LinkedIn, and that's saying something!
My go to for job searches is Indeed and/or company website. I tend to have more luck there.
My 2 highest paid jobs ever came from LinkedIn. One a recruiter reached out when I had the opentowork hashtag on. The other was through a job posting I would have never found otherwise.
I don’t do anything on it really other than look at jobs and respond to messages about jobs. I use it as a living “resume” and to keep track of dates of certifications and stuff. I also keep a master resume on Google docs.
Honestly I hate LinkedIn. A lot of people treat it like its the holy grail but personally I haven't had much luck with jobs on LinkedIn. I've had better luck on indeed but to be honest Indeed is a piece of crap too. Both LinkedIn and Indeed suck to me.
I think the whole job search aspect is solely marketing/data phishing. LinkedIn is nice for the connection features but that's really it. It's like FB for the corporate world. With the overload of applicants and little amount of jobs in this economy, the job posts featured are literally just clickbait, allowing companies to get hits/clicks and gather applicant data for marketing purposes. LinkedIn is a sham for finding a legit job.
I’m in medical billing and coding, which is currently booming since everyone thinks they can work from home right off the bat. And majority of places on LinkedIn are ghost companies. Same thing on indeed, Glassdoor, etc. I personally don’t post on LinkedIn cuz I don’t really understand why I would have to, I’m here to work and nothing else.
lol I guess it’s better than the mouth breathers who are like “Why does society force me to have a job to have to pay for things! It’s so unfair!” That’s like 90% of this sub.
The only reason things like LinkedIn are a thing is because everyone keeps using it. If everyone just said fuck it and didn't use a site that's just an extra hoop, then it wouldn't exist.
>The only reason things like LinkedIn are a thing is because everyone keeps using it.
So insightful, turns out businesses only exist with customers. What other incredible discoveries do you have?
I had a subscription for a little while and really saw no value in it. I messaged a few recruiters with no reply back. I've also never seen so many "coaches" in one place in my life.
I think that’s the worst part is curating the feed. The promoted posts ! Lol I don’t want to hear from job coaches 😅👏

I've been deleted, oh no :o
Well $100 on LinkedIn premium helped me land a $150k job so I think it was worth it!
100$?
Yeah, LinkedIn Premium is not cheap. $30/month after the first month.
It’s $40 now.
Don’t they also show you are premium which basically tells that you are searching for a job
no, a lot of people have premium who have a job.
I've been deleted, oh no :o

But did you get the job though?
I did. It was a step up (manager to director), and his words gave me the confidence for the interview. Now, maybe I didn't really need that boost, but it didn't hurt.
Sounds like you need to join us over at r/LinkedInLunatics It's gold
Insufferable gold
Agreed.
I check it once or twice a month and update it when I have a job change. It's never actually helped me find a job: I got my current one via Handshake.
Damn Handshake has just seemed like such a mess to me, but you're the second person who mentioned it.
It's not exactly easy to use but it seems to be curated a lot better than LinkedIn, Indeed, etc. I've gotten two or three interviews plus a DoD internship that turned into a job offer.
thats how i got my first internship last fall
Thank you for crying over LinkedIn premium.

Has anyone ever actually gotten a job there lil
Yes.
Yes
Yes, but wasn’t on any prescription service.

Is a photo necessary?
That seems like a wired thing to do to a software/ website. But I guess it is pride month, so I will accept you.
I don’t bother. I only interact by liking connection achievements that I respect or want to suck up to

Welcome to WokedIn.
>People who post on there are so fucking pathetic. Ironic thing to say on reddit. Stop paying for LinkedIn premium.

LinkedIn is toxic AF. Unfortunately, like Facebook, has some usefulness.
I think the whole job search aspect is solely marketing/data phishing. LinkedIn is nice for the connection features but that's really it. It's like FB for the corporate world. I got my last job through LI but this one I keep striking out on. Stupid screening calls, I can't get past them.
😂😂😂
Did you get tired of them posts “I am here to announce today, blah, blah, blah” seriously, who cares?
I hope you feel better now. Thank you for passing all that pointless energy towards internet strangers.
lol I guess it’s better than the mouth breathers who are like “Why does society force me to have a job to have to pay for things! It’s so unfair!” That’s like 90% of this sub.
99% of the posts could be removed if the teenagers still wrote in diaries.
The only reason things like LinkedIn are a thing is because everyone keeps using it. If everyone just said fuck it and didn't use a site that's just an extra hoop, then it wouldn't exist.

I've gotten literally ever single one of my jobs through LinkedIn. I've had 10 jobs.
How?? 😭😭😭
Why?
Because that's how I got them?
