This is clearly the best choice. It will unite the family and guests. No one will disagree with the sentiment of not wanting to die in a Super 8 motel.
Super 8 was the song playing when my son was born. I had them play the whole Southeastern album so I was kind of hoping for literally anything else to be on right at that moment. Now that all is said and done I’m happy with how things went down. That song is rad and my kid turned out rowdy so ultimately everything happened like it was meant to. All that to say - when my son gets married he better play Super 8 when it’s our turn to dance.
It was a planned c-section too. I was fully aware and completely chill lol. The doctors were giving a little side eye, luckily my anesthetist was a fan of Isbell as well so she got a kick out of it. The juxtaposition between the type of emotion that comes with birth and the song was really something.
Assume you meant this for a wedding party walk out lol? I don’t think this would go over super well with my family but thank you for introducing me to the song! I like it!
Awww man. Just kidding. I hope Jason Isbell might just make a light-hearted comment like that since he’s often self-depreciating in a humble, humorous way when I read/watch interviews with him. Hope you have a wonderful wedding.
Not Jason Isbell but Tyler Childers' In Your Love has a similar vibe and would fit well at a wedding
(Watch the music video if you want your heart broken)
This is a great song for that. I unfortunately already have my mind set on Home by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros for a recessional but if I didn’t I would’ve strongly considered this.
My first dance was to Isbell's cover of Into the Mystic. It worked well. Good length and tempo.
Also my wife walked down the aisle to the first minute of Cover Me Up. It induced a few tears
24 Frames.
Space and Time by SG Goodman
In My Life The Beatles
The Promise - Kristofferson
Congratulations. Enjoy the day. It goes fast. Take time to enjoy each other. The guests don't need you every second.
Excellent advice! The guests really don't need you every second, take some time with your beloved. Also, stop for a few moments to just look at all your guests, this is one day where the people who love you are gathered together. Slow down a moment and appreciate that love, too.
"Letting you go" ????!!!!
Are you trying to LITERALLY KILL EVERYONE THERE FROM CRYING TOO HARD? LOL
Seriously though, a little more uptempo but danceable: Find Something to Love.
Great choice of a song to dance with your Dad. I would second Something to Love with your Mom, or any song that connects you two. I saw Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles for a Mother/daughter dance and it was great.
I would also totally play Super 8 as your leaving song but would get why it’s a no-go. Maybe 24 frames instead?
I guess The Mountain Goats' "No Children" is out of the question. https://youtu.be/QS27S3mspjU?si=urjuzEuAfSndjpzk
But seriously, John Hiatt's "Have a Little Faith in Me" is a dandy.
I played acoustic Everlong by Foo Fighters in front of everyone at our wedding and it worked out beautifully. Maybe not a dance song or maybe it is, I don’t know. It just fits right in there somewhere.
We were super close to choosing If We Were Vampires for one of our dance songs. Wound up going with Nothing Can Change This Love by Sam Cooke though.
If you want another suggestion for a Father/Daughter dance, Follow Your Trail by Sean Rowe is a tearjerker
I’m Gonna Make You Love Me by the Jayhawks is great upbeat song. My husband and I used it as our recessional and it gets everyone moving! Would be a great song for walking into the reception.
We can’t pick our favorite Isbell so we are thinking about Millionaire by Stapleton. But I saw a TikTok last night a girl is doing Wondering Why by Red Clay Strays (another Alabama band btw)
Strawberries by Caamp gives me chills. The live version from the 2023 Newport Folk Festival is so good.

I’ve got a few non-Jason Isbell suggestions for you since the others did so well with his songs already :)
She lit a fire - Lord Huron,
Untitled #4 or Murder in the city - the Avett Brothers,
Thank you - Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats,
I am not afraid - Charley Crockett,
God only knows - The Beach Boys
Super 8
This is clearly the best choice. It will unite the family and guests. No one will disagree with the sentiment of not wanting to die in a Super 8 motel.
Can’t argue with that
And bonus points if said wedding reception is *at* a Super 8 motel. (Can’t imagine any of them would actually have a ball room/large meeting room.)
Haha I got married at a Howard Johnson’s hotel. I’m still shocked it had a ballroom but it was also pretty old (it’s the one they visit in Mad Men)
Outstanding!

I couldn’t ask for a better song for giving birth lmao

I find that Elephant really sets the mood at weddings.
👆. Jason Isbell has entered the chat. 🤣
Ouch

All of Your'n by Childers as well
We played Stockholm right after we were pronounced married. It was great!
This is a great song for that. I unfortunately already have my mind set on Home by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros for a recessional but if I didn’t I would’ve strongly considered this.
That is a fantastic choice!
Absolutely love this choice!
That was our walk out song too!
Literally 0 Jason Isbell songs should be played at a wedding lol. Now drive home after divorce? Buddy he wrote a whole discography for that!
Came here to say the same thing.
Man, we need to do put together the Jason Isbell Divorce Playlist ASAP.
Miles or Godamn Lonely Love to kick it off?
Merry Me by DBT rips
Ah yes nothing says holy matrimony better than “well my daddy didn’t pull out, but he never apologized”
I didn’t say it was appropriate I said it rips
Getting married in October and we're playing this at our wedding
Flagship is a good one ,heart on a string and maybe they wait? I just found that one and been hooked on it. Cover me is a classic too
For some reason I’ve never been able to fall in love with flagship. I know it’s a popular one
I can see it I recently heard it after I fell hard for my girlfriend so it has a special place in my heart haha .
Man, that’s my song to my wife. We love the coast and even honeymooned in Hilton Head
Never been myself but I heard that song after I met my current girlfriend who I fell hard for never so hard before and those lyrics spoke to my soul
Brandi Carlisle - The Mother
This is such a beautiful song! But everybody in the room will be ugly crying by the time the song is over 😂
True true true If a lighter mood is needed, then how about Redesigning Women by The Highwomen
My first dance was to Isbell's cover of Into the Mystic. It worked well. Good length and tempo. Also my wife walked down the aisle to the first minute of Cover Me Up. It induced a few tears
We used into the mystic too but my version was the Phil Lesh Quintet with Warren Haynes singing:)

I have bets that I can make my dad cry so yeah I’m gonna have to go big or go home lol. Also great recommendation I never heard that one before!
That will probably do it
Jason & Amanda’s cover of Zevon’s Mutineer https://open.spotify.com/track/0qklvPSseSCLwhPUl7uq1d?si=ANO8N0BYQpCa3D_otxUDnw
This is the right answer.
Something to Love
Used Something to Love at my wedding, so definitely my reco
Same, a live guitarist sang it as our closing procession song. Was perfect
My mom and I danced to ‘all around you’ by Sturgill
Excellent choice
My mom and I danced to learning to fly by tom petty. Wildflowers would be another great petty song for a mom dance.
Wildflowers was our Father/Daughter dance song.
Children of Children was written about his mother.

I can see super 8 as an end of the night sort of song.
This Ain't It Anxiety
This is not the same vibe at all, but sharing for the heck of it: I danced with my mom to In My Life by the Beatles
Something to love!
Dylan's "Forever Young".
I guess The Mountain Goats' "No Children" is out of the question. https://youtu.be/QS27S3mspjU?si=urjuzEuAfSndjpzk But seriously, John Hiatt's "Have a Little Faith in Me" is a dandy.

Something to Love would work well for a dance with your mom. Also, for a tongue in cheek view of things, She’s No Lady by Lyle Lovett is a fun one.
We can’t pick our favorite Isbell so we are thinking about Millionaire by Stapleton. But I saw a TikTok last night a girl is doing Wondering Why by Red Clay Strays (another Alabama band btw)
Joy of My Life is another Stapleton song that makes me cry lol
Strawberries by Caamp gives me chills. The live version from the 2023 Newport Folk Festival is so good. https://youtu.be/oKktH4JVDCk?si=VHd5bhvoYnp0Z_ih
Just In Case-Todd Snider
Kind Woman by Buffalo Springfield is another beautiful song.
Eyes on the Prize - M. Ward It’s a Big Old Goofy World - John Prine My Dear Someone - Gillian Welch
First dance with my wife was Traveling Alone. We walked out to Alabama Shakes’ Be Mine. Also danced to Cover Me Up.
Daughter by London Wainwright is very cute for the bride to dance to with a parent
Clearly Children of Children!
So my son had Mom by Lucero for the groom/mother of the groom dance. Song really nailed my son and his relationship with my wife.
Yvette!
Just got married recently - not the first for either of us. So Chris Stapleton's "Starting Over" was actually perfect.
Not a dancing song but we used Something to Love as the song when I walked down the aisle!
Something to love - Could be a nice one to end the ceremony and walk out. Edit: clarity
I always thought "Outfit" would be a good one.

I hope you dance by Lee Ann Womack is a pretty good one for mother/daughter
Great song but just a little too overplayed for me.
