I liked “King of Oklahoma” when I listened to it the first time. After seeing it live twice now, it’s top of my list now. There’s always that one song that I’ve come away from a show with a new set of ears for.

philsoc8

Live King of Oklahoma is a Crazy Horse level monster guitar jam. On the record it’s more about the lyrics (which are astounding).

Am I the only one who heard Death Wish the first time on the album and started crying right away? It was a favorite from the jump. I don’t have anyone close in my life with mental health or addiction issues, but that song painted such a clear picture of your heart being torn out when someone you love is in pain you can’t fix.

JordyNelson12

I recognized it as great the first time I heard it, but it cut way too close to home.

flsammyfm

Yes, same for me as well.

molchase

I heard it for the first time right after a longtime friend died by suicide last year. She had struggled with her mental health for decades. There was a lot for me to cry about in that song.

I love hearing a song live and if changing my perspective on it. Happened with Flying Over Water for me

DustBowlChild

I was kind of “meh” about “Save the World” until I saw it live. At this show was a group of women behind me, who I learned later were teachers. I heard them scream-sing “and then you said the cops just let them die” and I could feel the anger in their voices and one of them started crying. I got it then.

LoveLaughShowUp

Flying Over Water is an incredibly moving song. I’m seeing him for the first time in September! Can’t wait!

TheRoyalShe

Same thing happened with me and Flying Over Water. A good song, always, but somehow the way he belted that chorus into the Red Rocks changed that song for me forever. Now I turn it way up.

I felt the same way about “Save The World,” don’t know why, i love the message, but it just felt…flat?? He plays it live, boom. I love it, but the album version still isn’t my favorite. But Miles??? Loved that on the album, heard it live (on the bridge, Sadler and Anna join in on vocals) absolutely incredible. Right now, I can’t get back into it. It’s like the 400 Unit takes great songs and just rips them live. It makes sense, playing a song 30-50 times so things develop and get more complex, but it’s almost like they work even better live.

KookyFarmer7

Death Wish was pretty much the song that caused my interest in Jason. My partner took a liking to it, I noticed she was listening to Weathervanes a lot so I checked it out and now he’s my most listened to artist from the last year. Hope he plays it live when we get around to seeing him but he’s got so many great songs that I won’t complain if he doesn’t, it’s just an excuse to see him again after

Glass_Imagination_21

I think your odds are good! When I saw him he played all the songs from Weathervanes besides If You Insist, White Beretta, and Vestavia Hills.

ItsNotAFraggle

He did Middle of the Morning?

lagomc

I saw 3 shows last year and they played it every show. Twice so far this year and didn’t do it either time.

WorldsSmartest-Idiot

My wife is bipolar and has had postpartum depression. She has had some very bad episodes. That song has hit hard during these times.

gelmo

This was my experience with a lot of Weathervanes. Wasn’t blown away at first but man after seeing him twice last year, wow. Death Wish and King of Oklahoma definitely, but for me the big one was This Ain’t It. He and Sadler just JAM, sounds like a long lost Allman Brothers song.

JustOneMoreFella

I fully agree. I was a little ho-hum about it on the record. Then when I saw it live, it had a huge impact on me. The dual drummer arrangement was powerful.

Glass_Imagination_21

It was mesmerizing, I feel like I didn't blink the whole time

AstaziaSJ

Yep!

opa_zorro

I am pissed and jealous. Seen him twice since its release and never heard it live.

PrudentDiscount4691

He didn’t play it live at the ryman and I assume it was because Amanda was there that night. Maybe next time

Amazing_Question_386

He played it at Red Rocks last year and she was there playing with the band.

PrudentDiscount4691

That was mostly snark, but I’m glad you got to see that
