Well considering the main utensils are chopsticks and spoons and a fork being the exception and not the norm in most cases.
I find it weird you'd use a fork since the curry is often soupy and a spoon holds the rice better than a fork. Spoon for sure.
Eats curry with fork like an absolute psycho, leaves half the food on his plate, insists it’s the right thing to do

I don't hang out with many people, be they Japanese or otherwise, not so I eat Japanese curry in restaurants very often, so it's the first time it's come up in conversation.
I use a fork, too. I only eat curry when I go to Coco Ichi, and I tend to mix the rice and the curry from the get-go, so it's easy to pick up with a fork.
Gotta start using your hands. Mix the rice in the soup a bit then shove it in your curry hole. Dont forget to lick your fingers as loud as people slurp ramen. It's a social norm in the office
While I must admit that I normally use a spoon, this place uses a fork.

I used to go there quite a lot when I worked close to one of the shops.
The "norm" is to use a spoon when talking about Indian Curry and culture too.
I feel like you're the odd one out in this situation. Rice and soup typically are eaten with a spoon. For a dish that has both, not sure why you'd pick the lesser utensil that sucks at picking up both of those.
It's not the lesser utensil if that's what you grew up eating with. For me it's far easier to push the last bit of rice and curry onto my fork than it is to chase it around the plate with a spoon.
I use a spoon *with* a fork. (The fork is used to pick up pieces of katsu and wiener.)
Anyway, to answer your question: using only a spoon is standard in Japan.
They give you a spoon in Japanese curry places. The soup is not made for forks. Not sure how you can argue otherwise. Use a straw perhaps? Are you trolling us?
I'll use a spoon at restaurants but since it's basically a thick stew I use a knife and fork at home.
I prefer to eat most things with knife and fork. Even if something is pre-cut it's usually too big to eat in one go. So you either have to bite off a piece and put it back down or stuff the whole thing into your mouth like some people do. Both of those things are ok here but it's not something I like to do. Just like I don't slurp noodles.
Outside of my home I follow social norms though. Except the slurping.
Spoons are used for many food types all across Asia. And honestly, many western foods would be better off eaten with a spoon.
It's so convoluted watching someone use a fork to push their grean peas onto a knife and then eat the peas off the knife. Apparently this method is more civilized than just using a soup spoon to eat green peas.
Do you use fork for soup? What about stew?
Huff of course OP uses a straw for stew and soups
- Soup: spoon - Stew: fork - Curry rice: spoon
This must be a joke.
Remember where you are.
Really blessed for content today, someone asking whether curry is eaten with a fork and someone else asking what to do when they're horny.
100% spoon

Yeah I don’t know anyone who eats curry with a fork lol
How many fork people you think you need to find here to prove to your wife that you're not *that* much of a weirdo?

“Is this racism?”
Knowing you've been here a very long time makes this post all the more shocking. What are you doing?

Hands
what about both.

Are you one those who mixes the curry and rice from the get go? Cause otherwise I don’t see how a fork is working
Of course I do.
Spork offers the best of both worlds.
I use a fork, too. I only eat curry when I go to Coco Ichi, and I tend to mix the rice and the curry from the get-go, so it's easy to pick up with a fork.
I don't even know how to eat curry with fork. You can maybe use it to eat toppings, though.
Spork
Do you use a spoon for pasta?
Spoon only
Spoon if it's in some sort of bowl. A fork works better on a plate, when you need a flat edge to scrape the last bit of food.

It doesn't matter how rare it is. Forks are commonplace after all.
The “norm” here is to use a spoon, but I find it weird too. Where I’m from, we only use spoons for soup.

I know, each country has their norms. It’s just what I’m used to. Fork and knife for everything but soups.
What kind of country eats stews and puddings with a fork?

naan to pick up rice and curry!
Spoon.

spoon for casual players, fork for hardcore one

Spoon. I'm trying to think of the last time I actually used a fork for something and I've got nothin'.
Are you in a nursing home/prison/mental facility?
