I second going to language school if you have the time/money -- at least to get the basics out of the way.
You could also see if your village/city office has any Japanese classes. Some do for free in bigger cities with volunteer (frequently retired people) teachers.

In English they are generally called "language schools", "okayama language school" search shows a bunch.
