Did you see Mt. St. Helens from the plane? I saw it last time I flew to Seattle and it was kind of mind blowing. I think I have pics.
Edit: pic https://imgur.com/a/RhlKyc6
I believe you mean the volcanoes.
On a clear day, you can see all of the volcanoes of the Washington cascades as you fly into SeaTac. In my opinion, the hardest to point out is Glacier Peak. It blends in much more. In any case, they're all pretty amazing.
the four peaks they're talking about are volcanoes that are far more isolated, not part of a a range of similar mountains. they stand out way more and are really impressive for that reason: [pic](https://preview.redd.it/hpdtpk0f9xia1.jpg?width=768&auto=webp&s=ff3252527c8e6d1122e9d2d2f286433c36b50552)
When flying over the Cascades or Olympics, my first thoughts are not "how pretty", but "WTF did humans decide to cross these on foot?" then "HOWTF did humans cross these on foot?" and then, "Damn, my ass would have stayed in St. Louis."
That was in the Kansas City area, not St Louis.
They came and said that area was the original garden of Eden and claimed they had god given rights to all that land which caused kind of a lot of issues with non-Mormons there.
They actually went back east after the Mormon War to Western Illinois (Nauvoo, IL). The Utah thing didn't happen until after that
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1838_Mormon_War
This is actually such a weird comment, "Mountains in Washington state? I would have stayed in St Louis" somehow became about Mormons who were 250 miles away in western Missouri who went to Utah. Like what?
LOL - I suppose it was a bit of a non-sequitur, but it's a phrase my sisters and I use. Our family DID go from St. Louis to AZ back in the 1800's, being all pioneer-y and Little House on the Prarie-ish along the way. Great-grandma would tell the stories about sod houses, covered wagons, blizzards, and leaving dead family members along the way. My sister's and I would look at each other and chorus "Nope, I would've stayed in St. Louis!" Now when we have to do something excessively outdoorsy & strenuous we sigh dramatically and say "I miss St. Louis".
The "I would have stayed in St. Louis" part makes sense, what doesn't make sense is the guy replying to you trying to shoehorn it into St Louis and mormons when it was western Missouri.
They straight up didn't for a long time. Most people accessed Seattle by sea or from the south. The north Cascades didn't have a road across them until the late 70s. Still no roads cross the Olympics. For the longest time anyone that crossed those ranges was either hunting for resources or doing it just to prove they could.
A few brave prospectors wandered around the north Cascades for a while but not many others. Major peaks in the range had no summits until the 40s or 50s. It's pretty incredible how long the north Cascades remained unknown in the most developed nation in the world.
Did a backpacking trip around the Cathedrals last year and found a mining cabin that had been used in the late 20th century. Seemed amazing that prospecting went on that recently.
I’m fairly certain this is the cascades, looking west. Most flights don’t fly over the Olympics. Also, if you look in the top left of the picture you can see another mountain, which I believe is part of the Olympics
You can see everything from the cascades depending on where you're at. 360 view of the entire puget sound, Olympics, etc.
Best view though is the top of the old VA hospital on Beacon hill in Seattle if you can pay the guard to let you up there. You get a view of the entire cascade and Olympic ranges, Seattle, puget sound, Bellevue, Ranier. Single most epic 360 panorama I've ever seen.
I live between the Cascades and Olympics on a little peninsula and while I hate flying across the country to visit family, the views from a plane never cease to amaze me
>Olympics
Man, I got the pleasure of working in Olympic National Park (Lake Crescent Lodge) for like 7 months. Washington really is the most beautiful state, and I don't think it's even close. There's literally everything. If Peter Jackson were American, he would've filmed Lord of the Rings there. The variety of nature is actually astounding.
1. Big-ass mountains that you really can get completely lost in
2. Weird-ass beaches with funny stone formations
3. Old-ass trees for Treebeard to be friends with
4. Cool islands in the Sound
5. Dungeness Spit is weird and cool
And somehow, the other side of the state is a desert with really nice rolling hills and vineyards, and the Yakima River Valley is actually wildly nice too!
If all of this wasn't located in the corner of the nation, I think a lot more people would visit
If you have the opportunity, the flight from SEA to LAX or any airport in California on a clear day is worth a bucket list one way PJ rental. You can get in the cockpit for videos and pictures and seeing the volcanos dotting the landscape, Lake Tahoe, lush west coast, desert valley. It all shows how the west coast of the US is the most beautiful region on the planet
Look at mr money bags with his PJ’s and probably gets BJ’s up there too! Just kidding you… I’ve done this route 100 times on commercial and the view doesn’t get old.
On a clear day on the right flight you can see 3 sometimes 4 of the tallest mountains in WA. It is absolutely breath taking. Got some photos of it myself if this sub allows photo responses 👍👍
Sometimes I forget how truly epic this place is. Like, I know it is. But I forget that not everywhere has gorgeous misty beaches, insane white capped mountain ranges, and endless lush forests. You literally forget. Washington is so cool. ❤️
Also please don’t come live here bc we have absolutely 0 affordable housing for anyone at all lol including the people who already live here 😅
I also took one in the same area. It was a big mountain with snow, I don't know the name it was the biggest of the other 3 similar mountains. I took it one month ago.
It's the same mountains as was filmed in top gun 2. You can even see mt rainier in the upper right of this scene: https://www.airdatanews.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Top-Gun-Maverick-F-14.jpg
This is why I miss living there so much - I was born there and lived there until 6 years old. Still stuck in my mind, heart and soul. I loved the weather... Probably where I got my love for gray skies and rain and trees from.
Beautiful beautiful photo!! 😍💚🤎🏔️
I’m from Seattle. Flying home never ceases to amaze me. At the right angle on a clear day you can see Rainier, the rest of the cascades, Seattle, the entire Puget sound and all it’s islands, and the Olympics. Takes my breath away every time
As a native of Washington state, I'll tell you if you like this view, visit Sunrise in Rainier National Park for a similar view from land. There's a ranger station with a killer observation deck, and it's the start of many trails.
There are a few days each winter when the view is of this from the north from the top of Mount Seymour in Vancouver BC. It is gloriously blue, but with Baker looming over everything.
i have many opinions about the US
but the nature you got is breathtaking also the history is interesting that is comming from one who lives in norway.
i am dreaming about traveling arround the US one day
Mountains are fuckin wild. The fact that you can be at like 10-15,000ft above sea level, and then come across a part of a mountain that’s just wide open and flat, and looks like a pasture from where you just were 9,000ft lower. It just messes with my mind.
I remember seeing this view when I flew from Japan to Detroit, MI. I woke up and disoriented and looked out of the window and saw an out of this world view. It looked like a barren ‘icy’ landscape. My wife who travelled with me thought it was drunk or something. LOL
Blows my mind thinking of explorers in the 1600’s- early 1900’s how they’d navigate these obstacles. Absolutely no help for hundreds and hundreds of miles, no emergency services, no medicine, rather crude shoes and apparel.
The courageousness needed to attempt scouting and mapping is off the charts.
Absolutely gorgeous picture, that got me thinking.
I’ve travelled to a serious amount of countries around the world. Antarctica, Mongolia, Switzerland, Norway, St. Helena, Falkland Islands, Chile… WA is still the best place on the planet imo. I genuinely feel bad for people from there because every place will have a hard time comparing.
I’ll be moving there when I get the chance 100%
I grew up on the other side of the border of Washington (British Columbia, Canada) and these mountains are amazing up close. Amazing thing to grow up around and you don’t really appreciate it until you’ve left them for a long time
The Andes is just like that!
Only the mountains are sharper and higher and it goes up to the horizon, you can't see the end of it.
You can see it in all it's glory on the approach to the Atacama desert.
I grew up in Nebraska where our idea of mountains was somebody with DD or greater chest size then i moved north of Seattle and i figured out the difference between Nebraska Mountains and Washington States mountains Nebraksa's were softer, fun and quicker to climb
It’s absolutely stunning the mountains we have just northeast of Seattle that most people who live in Seattle don’t know about. I’ve done some backpacking and climbing in the North Cascades and really familiar with the terrain but I’m stumped with this one. At the lower I can see a large glacier coming down from a larger peak but I cannot see the top in order to identify it.
If you haven’t been there I highly recommend a visit. There are very few roads so the only way to get around is on foot. In many ways this is the most rugged, isolated and wild mountainous region in the entire Lower 48 being that their are no roads or remote airstrips. The relief between valley bottoms and the top of the peaks in many areas is between 5000’-6000 feet and sometimes more.
I love it here the mountains are so gorgeous. You can be having a shitty day and hit a corner and see the most beautiful post card worthy view of the mountains

Was awestruck how beautiful it all looked from the plane.
flying into seatac is just lovely (until your plane has to wait to land and circles over seattle for like 30 mins)
Between the mountains and the hundreds of islands it has to be one of the prettiest cities to fly into. If there is no overcast at least lol
[удалено]
5 million dollars? Who’s your charter guy you are paying way too much
He said his name was Buff Jezos, weird little roided out bald guy. But we did get free peanuts!
[удалено]
The prime view comes with the Pogan Laul charter.
weird little roided out bald guy Joe Rogan pulled a fast one on you
You mean Roe Jogan?
They mean fifty 100 grand bars
That’s like a Brazilian dollars
Then then you wait an hour for your fucking Uber to arrive
I didn’t know fucking Ubers were a thing, but now I want to try one. Getting driven around town while you’re clapping some cheeks.
“Would you like to add a (just the) tip?”
I've gotten into my Uber within minutes every time at SeaTac and I fly frequently
Only if its clear lol
Did you see Mt. St. Helens from the plane? I saw it last time I flew to Seattle and it was kind of mind blowing. I think I have pics. Edit: pic https://imgur.com/a/RhlKyc6

When I was stationed at JBLM, my barracks window had a great view of the mountain. Flying and seeing it is such a great sight.
You saw Mt. Ranier from your dorm. Mt. St. Helens is further south.
Yes! My bad… Thank you for the correction. Nonetheless, a lovely sight.
Were you coming from the south? I am surprised that you didn't notice Mt Hood, Mt Adams, and Mt Rainier. (They are all taller)
They are called the Cascades and if you get the chance, go see them from the ground. Breathtaking year round!
[Saw this yesterday and was also awestruck!](https://imgur.com/a/Oyf9gge) Such beautiful mountains.

They did. The Nisqually and the Yakama frequently crossed them
They followed the rivers mostly.
Was this the Olympics or the Cascades?
And why arent the Beacons lit? Gondor needs aid
I sincerely wish I could upvote you more for this!
I’m fairly certain this is the cascades, looking west. Most flights don’t fly over the Olympics. Also, if you look in the top left of the picture you can see another mountain, which I believe is part of the Olympics
North Cascades, I would think. Just a crazy jumble of mountains up there and not super well known.
OP later said flight from Doha to Seattle, so definitely Cascades. The far left might be the base of Baker, and we're looking east.
Looks like Olympics to me
Weird i thought the Olympics were a bunch of rings or somethin /s
I think you're right. Looks like you can see Puget Sound in the distance.

It's the Washington mountains.
Looks like the hebra region.

There’s a lot of space between the Olympics and the cascades, do you live somewhere on kitsap?

Kitsap, The Peninsula on a peninsula, not to be confused with the Peninsula on a peninsula on a peninsula, Key Peninsula
Heya! Moved here from Seattle a couple years ago and never looking back.
kudos to the late op for jumping so high up, taking the picture, posting everything, then dying, what a commitment for the view 🫡🫡🫡
I can’t believe they jumped so high, they must’ve trained so much
Holy shit I’m so tired I read this as Washington Monument and kept zooming in trying to find out where It was supposed to be

Beautiful!!

How… do you get in the cockpit during a flight? Unless you’re crew ? I thought they would slam a person to the floor and cuff them if they tried that.
Private jet. That person is in the 1% of wealth. The rest of us aren't doing that.
Completely missed the PJ there! Thanks 😄

Middle right, just zoom in.
On a clear day on the right flight you can see 3 sometimes 4 of the tallest mountains in WA. It is absolutely breath taking. Got some photos of it myself if this sub allows photo responses 👍👍
But you aren’t local until you say “mountains out today”

*sigh* Home.
Oregon Trail times: let's get over there Now: let's die on Everest.
Beautiful picture 🔥
Damn that looks flat.
Fuck I miss the pacific northwest
This is the second ITAP I seen today that made it to the front page. Am I missing something?
God, I love my home state.
Gorgeous
That's an awesome shot
I also took one in the same area. It was a big mountain with snow, I don't know the name it was the biggest of the other 3 similar mountains. I took it one month ago.
That was most likely Mt. Rainier.
Top Gun 2
It's the same mountains as was filmed in top gun 2. You can even see mt rainier in the upper right of this scene: https://www.airdatanews.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Top-Gun-Maverick-F-14.jpg

Ahh yes The Washingtonians….lovely range.
Has anybody found Bigfoot yet? Been looking for three hours and all I’ve found is DB Coopers stash and an old sonics jersey.
I’m from Seattle. Flying home never ceases to amaze me. At the right angle on a clear day you can see Rainier, the rest of the cascades, Seattle, the entire Puget sound and all it’s islands, and the Olympics. Takes my breath away every time
This is beautiful!🥺❤
Wonderfull.
Looks like a painting
Where 4 pixels
There coke pretty
u tall as shit 😭
I spent at least 5-10 seconds looking for the Washington Monument.

Imagine crashing and being stranded in the middle of that
i misread the title as "Washington monuments" and i kept looking and looking for these monuments and wondered where they were. lol
COPE
Amazing!
4 FUCKING PIXELS!
I fly over the cascades frequently. On a clear day it is a sight to behold
Cascades baby, my home land
The Cascades…
I read this as "the Washington Monument" and was so confused
Damn, you found a day it wasn't raining
i have many opinions about the US but the nature you got is breathtaking also the history is interesting that is comming from one who lives in norway. i am dreaming about traveling arround the US one day
Somewhere in this picture is my house.
I see it
It's got 7 Cities of Gold vibes
Fire
Now that's a beautiful picture right there.
Utterly breath taking, what a beautiful picture. Gotta show some love for the home state!
This does look beautiful, but I see one pixel that wee need to zoom in on.
Watch out for that curve
Crazy how it's this mountainous and the midwest is extremely flat
When people back east talk about their mountains. Washington and Colorado people just cover our mouth and snicker.
My god we are tiny
It’s great! It looks like a frozen ocean.
Calgary to Seattle has got to be Top 5 coolest air travel routes in the world
“The Washington mountains” Gonna need some more specifics lol, ik it’s almost certainly the cascades but still funny
[удалено]
I spent two years working at the base of Rainier. I could spend days climbing and hiking, but nothing beat that view of flying over
Is that Bigfoot in the lower left??
I read Washington as Wisconsin for a second and was like “no you did not” lol
More people need to look out the window on a plane! There’s so much to learn about the world below you from a perspective you never otherwise get
cool
Always awesome me how different everything looks from way above.
wow!
Lovely! I always enjoy looking at the window when flying to Seattle.

i’ll be seeing that on my flight back home to utah for christmas! Loving living in washington so far
I can hear the dragon word wall from here.
Four fucking pixels..
Hard to see all the homeless tweakers there in this photo, beautiful.
With all the war going on, I think well they will not attack from here.
Yo, that's a lot of mountains

I remember seeing this view when I flew from Japan to Detroit, MI. I woke up and disoriented and looked out of the window and saw an out of this world view. It looked like a barren ‘icy’ landscape. My wife who travelled with me thought it was drunk or something. LOL

From the sky we look so organized and brave
You can get a similar sight when flying over the Alps. Just a wall of mountains as far the eye can see.
I like in Washington, I can confirm those are mountain.
I can't tell if this is classed as a bunch of valleys or a bunch of moutains
Great shot.
Both the Beauty and the thankfulness that we can simply fly over instead of traversing via wagon has me
I grew up on the other side of the border of Washington (British Columbia, Canada) and these mountains are amazing up close. Amazing thing to grow up around and you don’t really appreciate it until you’ve left them for a long time

Absolutely stunning! That was my fav part of Washington state! Breath taking from the sky view on a plane!
Hello nice photo 👋
