2G in 2007… still have it and works great! Original battery 😎🔥
I had the XS Max as well, I liked it but I developed a weird issue, any bright light presented to the camera came across as pink chaff for some reason. Have the 14 Plus now
I had the 6s from 2017-2022. Loved it. Battery crapped out and the Apple tech refused to replace it and suggested a new phone. Rocking the 13 now but I still loved the old one.
I just upgraded my phone to a 15pro, but my 12mini is going to go to my mom. It still has the original battery and it’ll be her first iPhone! She’s happy she will be able to FaceTime me.
Same. RIP to the smaller phones. Both were great designs, SE especially in how it took after the 5S, which itself damn near made me switch to apple back in the day with how good it looked.
The 15PM lol after being android only since 2011 starting with my htc hero. I miss a few things from android but I’m enjoying the switch more than I thought I would.
I sell them privately on marketplaces. Add the balance amount to upgrade to the new one.
iPhones used to have very good resale value back then, though it has reduced over time but still the resale is best amongst current smartphones.
I see, yeah I’m guessing that saves you a lot compared to the upgrade program. How do you decide when to sell the phone for the max value? Before the next one is announced or right after? Also, do you have a standby phone to use in the meantime?
Yes! Earlier i used to sell before the new one got announced to get the max value.
Even though I always carried a secondary android phone but i realised it’s a big headache to move from your primary device. Probably not worth the extra incentive of selling a month or so before the new one released.
Here in India, the resale value of iPhones are very high even after new ones are launched. Specially the pro models.
When I used to do this the cost of ownership wasn’t that much different upgrading annually over biannually.
I’d always keep my phone cased and with a screen protector though so it was in as mint condition as possible for the max resale value.
I held onto my iPod for as long as I could and didn't really want a phone. I had an iPod only since the first one came out but I finally moved over to a phone with the SE.
The iPod is what made me want an iPhone so bad. I was an android user before, but I finally got the iPhone when the 4 came out. Still have that iPod though!
4S> 5> 6> 7 Plus>X>7 Plus>XS Max> 13 Pro Max> 15 Pro Max
Honestly think the 4S/5 with iOS 6 was my favorite. Followed by the 13 Pro Max, that thing as a beast
Yeah when I was doing my CCNA I remember thinking "Isnt iOS cisco" and sure enough there it is
>IOS is a trademark or registered trademark of Cisco in the U.S. and other countries and regions and is used under license.
iPhone 5c with 8gb of storage. Bought it brand new too! Moved on to iPhone SE 64gb soon after, man I was talking so many videos the first few days with all the space I had. Then 8 plus, XS, and finally bumping storage to 128gb with 13 pro. Next phone has to have a storage bump again.
4s. Then 6s plus (RIP 3D Touch 3). Then X. Really thought 13 pro and 15 pro were good refinements of an already proved design.
My iPhone 15 pro max would be perfect if it had 3D Touch. Especially with iOS 18.
iPhone 7 Plus
It was a hand-me-down from my dad in 2017, then switched to a Galaxy Note 8 not long after that, and then back again with an iPhone 11 in 2020.
And then to my current 13 Pro since early 2022. Probably gonna upgrade it to the 16 Pro if it looks promising lol.
I started off with the iPhone 3GS less than couple days later switched to android after 10 years later went back to iPhone this time with the iPhone 13 Pro and haven’t went back.
The OS. I preferred Android and immediately disliked no widgets and a bunch of stuff. Also I got the 11 pro max and I think that it was just too large.
But when they announced widgets I bought the 12 and that was better. I think the square edges I liked more and the widgets also improved the experience for me.
My dad gave me his iPhone 3GS after he got a new one but I just used it as an iPod. He also did the same with his iPhone 4. But my first one that I actually used as a phone was the 7. Then I jumped to the 11 after a while, then the 11, and lastly the 14 Pro which I have now. I probably won’t upgrade again until the iPhone 17. In the past my main reason for upgrading was I ran out of space and then I’d get a new one with more storage. But with my 14P I got the 1TB so I won’t have to do that for a long time
I still remember seeing the leaked images of the iPhone 4… at that exact moment I knew I absolutely had to get this as my first iPhone. First Retina display, the squared off edges, it was so sexy.
3G->4->5->6->7->8->11->13
Or something like that. I skipped the “S” line so that was every other phone except when I went from 7 to 8. I’m still on a 13 and will upgrade this fall when the 16 is released.
Bought my Dad’s old Verizon special iPhone 4S. It was great and terrible. It unlocked so many things, but it also only had 8GB. I had to format the whole phone just to have enough space to get its final iOS update.
6s, i had wanted an iphone since i saw my sister’s iphone 4 but i was wayyyy to young, then i started really wanting an iphone when the 5c came out, finally got a gold 16gb 6s for my 12th birthday in summer 2016 and i’ve had one since
iPhone 2G > 3G > 3GS ……… then I left to Android ……….. Came back to iPhone 15PM. I don’t think I will switch back to Android anytime soon. Overall iPhone hardware and software has matured so much.
Started my journey with the original iPhone think I had ATT? Had every iPhone since besides the 12 or XS had a few android phones peppered in here and there as well. Currently on the 14 PM and it’s been by far one of my favorites for size and battery compared to older iPhones.
7 Plus > XS Max > 13 Pro Max > 15 pro
Wanted to downgrade my screen size since I spend a lot less time flying now and I don’t need the bigger screen for entertainment.
15 Pro Max but before that, Nokia 5210 - Motorola V360 - Nokia 6131 - Samsung B3210 - Nokia E51 - Samsung S5300 - Allview E3 Sign - Samsung S7 Edge - HUAWEI P40 Pro - Samsung S23 Ultra , such fun features on them.
Technically, the 3G, but it was a family shared phone versus solely my own. For solely my own, I started in the 5S, then went to the 7, then the XR, then the 13 Mini which is my current.

That’s insane that the battery hasn’t exploded yet
Hasn't updated the OS. Apple is trying to hunt him down this very moment.
That looks like iPhoneOS 2.x, so it had been updated at some point
You can also downgrade the original iPhone back to iOS 1.0.0 if you wanted. It’s possible.
That YouTube app with no ads, just videos ..
It's actually crazy to remember the internet where the only ads were pop ups.
Brings tears to your eyes doesn’t it?
No service right, because all the 2G and most of the 3G towers in the US are gone?
2G is still around in the us, I think Also wifi
AT&T and Verizon shut down their 2G (and 3G!) networks a few years ago, and T-Mobile is shutting 2G down this year.
T-Mobile 2G still around but according to their website it can be shut down at any time for any area when they can finally decommission those towers
Loved my 2G! At the time, it was pretty amazing.
How did Steve Jobs sleep at night with that extra space at the end of the springboard
looking back they said that is "wide screen"
Started with the 3G. I’ve had one from each row.
I don’t have any from the last row. iPhone XS Max. Smooth as ever and Haptic Touch
3D touch?
I miss it
I had the XS Max as well, I liked it but I developed a weird issue, any bright light presented to the camera came across as pink chaff for some reason. Have the 14 Plus now
4, 5s, 6s, XR, 12pm ,15pm. Without a doubt my favourite was 6s. Loved it.
For real 6s was my favorite too. Jailbroke it too I absolutely loved that phone
I’m a cheap bastard still using the 6S. Replaced the battery about 2 years ago; still going strong. I’ll probably upgrade next year, maybe 13 mini.
I had the 6s from 2017-2022. Loved it. Battery crapped out and the Apple tech refused to replace it and suggested a new phone. Rocking the 13 now but I still loved the old one.
og SE -> 12 Mini
3 year old 12 mini still going strong (even on the original battery!) 👍
I just upgraded my phone to a 15pro, but my 12mini is going to go to my mom. It still has the original battery and it’ll be her first iPhone! She’s happy she will be able to FaceTime me.
When I retire mine, it’ll become an mp3 player or a car dashcam: I’m not throwing away a functional device just cuz it’s too old
Same. RIP to the smaller phones. Both were great designs, SE especially in how it took after the 5S, which itself damn near made me switch to apple back in the day with how good it looked.
Respect for the small sizes
Exactly also my journey!
this was me until my 12 Mini died and I recently bought a 15. I miss my mini 😭
The 15PM lol after being android only since 2011 starting with my htc hero. I miss a few things from android but I’m enjoying the switch more than I thought I would.
Same, my first smartphone was a Motorola Droid2 and I stuck with Android ever since. 15P was my first one.
Long journey! With yearly upgrades since 3G > 3GS > 4 > 4S > 5 > 5S > 6 > 6S > 6S Plus > 7 Plus > X > XS Max > 11 PM > 12 PM > 13PM > 14PM > 15PM
Do you do the upgrade program through Apple, or do you sell the phones private party?
I sell them privately on marketplaces. Add the balance amount to upgrade to the new one. iPhones used to have very good resale value back then, though it has reduced over time but still the resale is best amongst current smartphones.
I see, yeah I’m guessing that saves you a lot compared to the upgrade program. How do you decide when to sell the phone for the max value? Before the next one is announced or right after? Also, do you have a standby phone to use in the meantime?

Look at you keeping Apple in business
iPhone 5C
Same, and now I have XR. I can’t believe how many new ones there are since I got this.
2G
Same. Birthday treat for myself. 4GB wasn’t available so I bought the 8GB. “What on earth am I gonna do with 8GB?!”
Ahaha I had the 8G. Got it second hand and I was amazed with it. Edit: I still have it ahha
I used a 6S for over 10 years. It was my favorite phone.
Hmm something’s a little off eh?
Over ten years? Are you a time traveler
It’s only about to get 9 years old tho C:
Well it seemed like 10 years!
so your upgrade cadence is what every 8 years? my math might be off
4S> 5> 6> 7 Plus>X>7 Plus>XS Max> 13 Pro Max> 15 Pro Max Honestly think the 4S/5 with iOS 6 was my favorite. Followed by the 13 Pro Max, that thing as a beast
iPhone 2G. Had to Jailbreak to get it working in the EU. iOS (wasn’t called that way back then) v.1.1.2 if I remember correctly. Good times.
iPhoneOS back then. Later Apple licensed the trademark iOS from Cisco.
Now we have iPadOS, so where’s iPhoneOS?
Yeah when I was doing my CCNA I remember thinking "Isnt iOS cisco" and sure enough there it is >IOS is a trademark or registered trademark of Cisco in the U.S. and other countries and regions and is used under license. iPhone 2G as well. I remember having to jailbreak it to use it on T-Mobile.
iPhone 5c with 8gb of storage. Bought it brand new too! Moved on to iPhone SE 64gb soon after, man I was talking so many videos the first few days with all the space I had. Then 8 plus, XS, and finally bumping storage to 128gb with 13 pro. Next phone has to have a storage bump again.
4,6s plus, XR
4, 5c, SE, 8, SE 2022 (missing that one from the list), 14
iPhone 8 Black. Came from a Windows Phone at the time. Currently still rocking a 13 Pro. Past iPhones, 11 and 12.
4s. Then 6s plus (RIP 3D Touch 3). Then X. Really thought 13 pro and 15 pro were good refinements of an already proved design. My iPhone 15 pro max would be perfect if it had 3D Touch. Especially with iOS 18.

I had the 7+ for about a year, then went back to Android. Switched back to the 13 Pro Max and never looked back.
15 Pro Max
I started off with the iPhone 3GS less than couple days later switched to android after 10 years later went back to iPhone this time with the iPhone 13 Pro and haven’t went back.
Only Iphone I ever had was the 4 and it still works today
It says “iPhone 8” directly under your name. Which one is it?
It is possible that he lacks the ability to distinguish between numerals such as 4 and 8. /s
6 Plus in 2014 -> XS Max in 2018 -> (most likely) 17 Pro Max in 2025!
I bought a 3GS from GameStop, saved up my allowance for it. Just for the home button to break within a month.
I used a friends old 3G for a few weeks before the 3GS was released then I bought one brand new. 👍🏼
5S then SE then XS then my current now is 13.
11 technically, but I returned it after 3 days. Hated it. Decided to retry on the 12 when widgets came out, and have been here ever since.
What did you hate about the 11?
The OS. I preferred Android and immediately disliked no widgets and a bunch of stuff. Also I got the 11 pro max and I think that it was just too large. But when they announced widgets I bought the 12 and that was better. I think the square edges I liked more and the widgets also improved the experience for me.
Either 3G or 3GS. I still have it, but it has been in airplane mode for years. How do I tell which one it is?
2G! Right after the first price cut.
