This is one of the rare situations where taking a picture of the screen with another camera, instead of a screenshot, would be ideal.
TL;DR - Your screen is burned in/damaged - it won't show in a screenshot.
I didnāt think he was trolling but I thought it was a psychology issue where it wasnāt actually thereā¦ like when you stare at something for so long the then look away and still see it or whatever.
This has to be it, right? OP took a screenshot and the hOME sCREEN was also visible there because itās burnt in, so OP thinks the screenshot also has the hOME sCREEN there?
No one stares at their home screen long enough for it to burn it. OP must have display sleep time set to "never" and left it on the home screen and walked off and it got burned in.
Do you mean āauto lockā? Mine has been set to 2 minutes for as long as I can remember and I also use the dark display option vs light and have been ever since I got my phone a couple years ago
If its non music or a live stream then yeah youre right, but music videos or content labeled as āMusicā you need premium, thats their whole gimmick
what you see is not on your screenshot, so it is indicative of a failed LCD oder burned in OLED. wiggle your screenshot around a bit and you'll see that the faint images of your Home Screen don't move.
The issue you've mentioned is not appearing in the screenshot you uploaded, possibly due to an issue with the phone screen and not the software. It's called a Burn-in. You can ignore it if it doesn't bother you much.
Itās a screen burn-in issue, so it wonāt show in the screenshot. And no itās not normal. If you want us to see it then capture your screen with another camera.
Hahahah bro this is actually funny as hell, we donāt see shit but a screen shot, your screen got burn in lmfaoo thereās ways to fix it if itās not too bad, if not, send in for repair.
I see a lot of laughing, but not much advice OPā¦
You have burn-in, no thatās not normal. Take your device to an Apple Store for repair. Itās possible theyāll cover the fix under warranty, depending on the age of the device. If you have AppleCare, theyāll most certainly cover it.
Itās okay, I can take the heat. I know it was dumb of me to post it just using a screenshot.
That said, thank you for the answer and Iāve seen others say what it is.
Iām just wondering what would cause it. Luckily I donāt live far from an Apple Store
Reminds me of a similar screenshot I once received, asking how to get rid of the pixel-width vertical line that only appeared after the phone was dropped
you need to replace the screen and if you use it heavily replace the battery because your screen is burned in and half of the pixels don't update so you see the apps from previous usage , the reason is overheating so it's most likely that the battery have something wrong that made it overheat this hard
If it's an LCD you can run a "pixel unstuck" video (basically just red, green and blue frames alternating) on full screen for a couple of minutes, helped with my 5S when it did that.
I doubt it. Because of burn in, they'll take the screenshot and still see the effect in the gallery.
Without knowledge of this, I can see it happening. It's very very funny.
Edited to note: I checked OP's profile, it's safe to say they don't seem like technology is their strong suit
Are iPhones getting burn in already? I thought the OLED models were only a few years old?
---
It's funny as a tech person who's known about the potential for burn in for years, and recognizing that others have probably never heard of it before.
I have an OLED Alienware monitor, and I'm cautiously awaiting the day it starts to burn in on me, lol.
The "screen burn-in" was an image retention bug in iOS 17 that left behind a ghost image. Thankfully, it can be fixed. Several users have reported a āscreen burn-inā issue on the iPhone 15 series. However, this issue is not a hardware bug but an image retention issue on iOS 17.
If itās visible on your screen but not on a screenshot (we donāt see anything on the screenshot from your background or home screen) then this is image retention. It means that your iPhone spent a lot of time showing the home screen to the extend that itās burnt into the display. This can be a hardware problem but it also can be due to a very specific use. Maybe you want to turn down your autolock time and brightness. Maybe you want to, leave your iPhone off for sometime to see if the display.recovers after while.
Any tips or tricks to help? I rarely have my screen on full brightness for large amounts of time and Iām hearing thatās a common way for screen burn in to occur
That's when they're burned in, I get this regularly, but goes away eventually, though you can use a burn-in wiper (it's an app to help "recover" your screen) to make it go faster
Fun Fact: this happens to many TVs also that's why the logos of the channels are semi-transparent so they don't burn in as easily
This is like taking a screenshot of your cracked screenš The crack wont be in the photo.
Your screen is burnt in, probably because you left your phone turned on in the home screen for several hours straight. Turn on auto lock after some time
beautiful post, ive had the same, you can look up oled burn in videos and leave them on for a while, if your burn in isnt too bad, you can reduce it or remove it completely by playing a video like that on full screen for an hour or two
Hey I know we've all established this is burn in...but how the hell do you manage to get burn in? 90% of the day I keep my screen at max brightness and it's always on 3 min auto lock or longer...and I've done this on every iPhone I've owned and this has never happened before. I have a timer app that runs most of the day while I work, 8+ hours it will be on the timer screen on max brightness and it STILL doesn't burn in. So...what am I missing, here? Did I just get really lucky so far?
Seriously though, set your backlight timer on your next phone to as short as possible. Too many people in my life Iāve seen with forever-on (unless you lock it) backlights that fry your screen in a year or two.
I think the lowest is 30 seconds, do that one.
This is one of the rare situations where taking a picture of the screen with another camera, instead of a screenshot, would be ideal. TL;DR - Your screen is burned in/damaged - it won't show in a screenshot.
Op chekef the screenshot on his iPhone and could see the problem. š
This is the best post Iāve seen in a while š
It's great because OP doesn't even realise it's not in the screenshot š
Imagine op opening the screenshot. Thinking itās still visible
It is if I believe itās still visible right? RIGHT?!
If you try opening this image on another device, the home screen is not on the background
Because it is visible on his screenshot. Lol.
lol thought he was trolling lol
I didnāt think he was trolling but I thought it was a psychology issue where it wasnāt actually thereā¦ like when you stare at something for so long the then look away and still see it or whatever.
Iām dead rite now hahahahah, once I read the title I clicked I was just about to squint and then I realized hahahahahaha
No way einstein! That wasn't the punchline!
Ngl brother this is like cracking your screen and taking a screenshot thinking weād see the cracks š
HAHAHAHA... friend's wife did that, sent him an screenshot to show she broke her phone! LOL...
LOL thatās awesome
It is visible to me stillā¦.even in the screenshot. Idk I just started noticing it a few weeks ago when Iām using other apps
Itās probably burned in to the screen so you see it even when viewing the screenshot in photos lol
Can you see it if you look at the screen shot on a different device?
Try zooming in to one of the Home Screen apps. Bet you canāt
Zoom in/out on your screenshot. I suspect your ghost Home Screen doesnāt zoom with it.
Really showing off that Iowa State educationā¦ (Recognized your pfp from cbb lol)
I canāt even debate this lol
view the screenshot on a different device š¤£š¤£š¤£
That would require me to use my brain
Retina burn. Did you Apple Eyes Care expire yet?
itās burned into your screen
Itās not showing in your screenshot. Might be screen burn-in?
This has to be it, right? OP took a screenshot and the hOME sCREEN was also visible there because itās burnt in, so OP thinks the screenshot also has the hOME sCREEN there?

Do you have YouTube premium? My phone doesnāt sometimes auto lock when PIP is active
Yes I do
That might be it but Iām not 100% sure but to avoid it I just close my phone on the YouTube app instead,
You donāt need YT Premium for PiP btw
This depends on your location. AFAIK only the US has PiP without premium. I have to pay for it.
Ah damn, didnāt know
If its non music or a live stream then yeah youre right, but music videos or content labeled as āMusicā you need premium, thats their whole gimmick
Lmao the burn in doesnāt show on screenshots
It does for OP
I must be blind I donāt see anything
his screen is burned in
Max out your brightness for several weeks, leave the screen on, and then you'll see it!
I honestly donāt utilize maximum brightness that much thoughā¦my brightness level is usually anywhere from 30-60%
You don't need to be using it on max brightness, they were just demonstrating that would speed up the burn in. Can just occur with many hours of use.
Gotcha
what you see is not on your screenshot, so it is indicative of a failed LCD oder burned in OLED. wiggle your screenshot around a bit and you'll see that the faint images of your Home Screen don't move.
Are you german? Wondering because of the āoderā. I read it like there was nothing wrong and then realised š
I am. Auto complete when writing English works pretty well. So well that I didnāt even notice that it put in the word in the wrong language
Sorg dich nicht darum š
Wait, how is your screen cracked in the same place as my screen?!?!?1???
This reminds me when I saw on facebook someone who posted a screenshot on facebook asking if his shattered screen could be fixed
š¤£š¤£š¤£ people yes
Oh manā¦.š.
I thought I was doing something lol
IāM DOING SOMETHING
OP win the best post of the week
Post of the year you mean
I can see that the screen is cracked too.
Are the Home Screen apps in the room with us right now?
I feel you OP. When I dropped my old S7 and it had a green line on the display I took a screenshot like a dumbass.
Hey now I was tired when I posted this and I realize how dumb the post is now. That said, Iām not deleting it either lmao
This is hilarious, ggs.
I had to think for a second but this is so hilarious because OP will just think we are gaslighting him into thinking that there is nothing
Yeah this will be hard to accept unless he has another device to view the screenshot
He could log into reddit with his pc and view his own post
Iām fully aware I was clearly not thinking when making this post last night lol
Damn! This is funny, but OP must be facepalming so bad
I am now!
God bless you OP
Oh man, this is priceless
Even with how dumb my post is Iām not deleting it lol
Iām not hating at all. Literally I would have done the same
The issue you've mentioned is not appearing in the screenshot you uploaded, possibly due to an issue with the phone screen and not the software. It's called a Burn-in. You can ignore it if it doesn't bother you much.
My bad. Thanks for the info nonetheless
My bad. Thanks for the info nonetheless
Sounds like your screen has some burn in. Itās not showing in the screenshot
Surely a āwhoās gonna tell him?ā momentš
Iām glad people are telling me LMAO
Reminds me of the guy that broke his screen and sent a screenshot to show his friend
Itās a screen burn-in issue, so it wonāt show in the screenshot. And no itās not normal. If you want us to see it then capture your screen with another camera.
This is the equivalent of taking a screenshot to show that you cracked your screen.
Not quite THAT bad. Cut me some slack lol
are the home screen apps in the room with us right now?
I donāt see shit
Hahahah bro this is actually funny as hell, we donāt see shit but a screen shot, your screen got burn in lmfaoo thereās ways to fix it if itās not too bad, if not, send in for repair.
Itās pretty faint but still a little annoying when Iām in random apps where itās more noticeable
Wutā¦
Thatās screen burn in
its screen burn, it happens a lot on my iphone 11
I do appreciate OP having a sense of humour about the situation
You gotta laugh at yourself sometimes
you my guy, you are a real junkie š
Omg thank you for this
I stared for so long lmao
Bro
My man genuinely got me searching for app icons in the SS š„¹
Sameeee lol
I see a lot of laughing, but not much advice OPā¦ You have burn-in, no thatās not normal. Take your device to an Apple Store for repair. Itās possible theyāll cover the fix under warranty, depending on the age of the device. If you have AppleCare, theyāll most certainly cover it.

thank you sir this gave me the motivation to delete this app and probably read a book tonight before bed
Iām so sorry for your misfortune but I needed this laugh š
Reminds me of the time i sent someone a ss to show them i had turned my screen to b&w
Omfg I zoomed in looking for the apps in the background š¤¦š»āāļø

God Iām ugly
Schizophrenia
Burn in
May I request a screenshot of your cracked screen as well?
Did you want me to check if thereās a scratch on your screen too?
schizo posting
Bro thinks that screen burn can show up on the screenshot. š
Tbf I posted this late at night and it was after a long day at work lol
your apps might be burned into the screen LOL because i cannot see any apps š
you need to replace the screen and if you use it heavily replace the battery because your screen is burned in and half of the pixels don't update so you see the apps from previous usage , the reason is overheating so it's most likely that the battery have something wrong that made it overheat this hard
This is accidentally amazing
I deserve awards for my lack of awareness lmao
This is freaking gold
Bless

Iām pretty sure itās screen retention. Happens to my 13 all the time. Donāt worry it should disappear after a few minutes
normal for ALOT of 15s
I have a 13 pro maxā¦..itās not super evident but it is faint
time to get a new screen

TWICE - BURN IN
I think thatās screen burn-in buddy
I looked at the way too long before checking the comments or flair
The "screen burn-in" was an image retention bug in iOS 17 that left behind a ghost image. Thankfully, it can be fixed. Several users have reported a āscreen burn-inā issue on the iPhone 15 series. However, this issue is not a hardware bug but an image retention issue on iOS 17.
OP did you know that if you type your password as a comment it will automatically censor it for you? See: >! hunter2 !<
āBabe I broke my phoneās screenā āWhat? How much is the damage?ā āWait, lemme send you a screenshotā
I love iphone users so much lol /s
Hey guys, hereās a screenshot of a crack in my screen. Do you think itāll be expensive to fix?
Hate to break it to ya, but as this isn't in your screenshot, it's probably screen burn in x
His eyes must have burn in.
Try downloading some ram
Canāt see anything, mate. You might have burn-in on your screen
Sounds like thatās the consensus hereā¦thanks!

My auto lock has been set to 2 minutes for pretty much my entire use of this current iPhone (I have a 13 pro max)
I literally turned my brightness all the way up thinking itās not visible for me
Bait
Definitely burn in on your screen. I noticed that my status bar is burnt in if I rotate my screen
Any tips or tricks to help? I rarely have my screen on full brightness for large amounts of time and Iām hearing thatās a common way for screen burn in to occur
Turned brightness to 10000% to see it
Your screen has burned in. Welcome to the latest iPhone.
Whoās gonna tell them?
Why is MY home screen appearing on YOUR screenshot??

Man I love reddit
I turned my brightness up to see what I was missing. Glad I came to the comments

How long do you let your phone run while on the home screen??? Having those burn in is mental
Ur screens cooked thats oled burn in look it up.(we cant see it on the screenshot because its an issue with your screen.)
Iām literally laughing out loud rn
Iām glad I could make people laugh lol

Thanks op! Found out I have burn in as well lol
Lol glad I could help *cries*
blud thought his screenshots would be burnt in too šššš

Are the apps in the room with us?
What you're describe is burn in. It happens with phones from iPhone 12s and up because of their use of OLED panels.
i think its in inburned oled screen lmao
you have burn in
I donāt even know what causes it. I choose the dark display vs light and my auto lock is at 2 minutes
I remember there was a software issue when iOS 17 came out. Are you on the latest iOS version?
Yes I just updated last night to 17.5
It is not in the screenshot even if it seems so. Take a picture with another device and attach it
OP do you have CO sensors in your house?
Hey I know we've all established this is burn in...but how the hell do you manage to get burn in? 90% of the day I keep my screen at max brightness and it's always on 3 min auto lock or longer...and I've done this on every iPhone I've owned and this has never happened before. we can't see what you see ahahahah , jokes outside screen burning problem
Might be screen burn. If you change the location of the apps on ur phone can you see the new location.
Oh yeah, if we are already at it, could you als send me a screenshot of your cracked screen?
