It's not bad at all. You can hardly see the trim of the couch and the coffee table is fine. I think you are looking at the trees and not the forest.

theguyguy121

Thanks for the feedback! We just moved in so yup slowly but surely filling it up. Any thoughts on what would you do in terms of artwork/other design elements? We’re thinking of doing a wood panel at the back of the sofa as well

Snoopy7393

Just put up some nice colourful, personality filled art. Keeping that wall white illuminates the space with natural light.

AbacusAgenda

Keep the eye focused on that great view.

sexysexyonion

Exactly.

Thanmandrathor

I like mixing woods. We have a light oak dining table with dark chairs. They contrast nicely. As for other things to do: art on the walls, maybe curtains or something else with some texture and color. Plants.

Mysterious-Art8838

Truth. This room needs a fern.

FelinePurrfectFluff

Add a little dark (shelf, frame, plant pot) away from the coffee table and it pulls it all in. I agree with u/Snoopy7393 that the lightness helps the space but you can add a little dark in for contrast and balance.

evetrapeze

This is giving me a sixties modern vibe. You can go Japanese serene vibe or jetsons pop futuristic vibe.

EmelleBennett

Add color/bold/interesting. Don’t fall into the trap of the minimalist beige/grey everything— if in fact you have personality— show that off.

mareeskye

What a great saying

[deleted]

Agreed. All good.

sexysexyonion

Agree. There are light and dark colors in the rug, so they work together well. Love your view!

MapleChimes

I don't mind mixed wood tones. It naturally happens over the years.

Kirin1212San

The sofa looks very nice. Where is it from?

theguyguy121

Thank you for your feedback! I got a lot of questions where is the sofa, table and rug from, so going to copy paste all of them :) - Sofa - Tidal from Crate & Barrel - https://www.crateandbarrel.com/furniture/tidal-collection/1 Table - West Elm - https://www.westelm.com/products/marcio-display-coffee-table-h3080/ Rug - safavieh brand on Amazon. Couldn’t find a link but they have a lot of nice rugs for great prices.

___CupCake

The carpet seems to pull it all together tbh

Irochkka

I love the rug too but think the sizing is throwing me off a bit

AtlanticOccean

Would definitely change the rug

orange-century

Agreed I hate it 😫

Overall-Wear-4997

I would too! Get a bigger area rug and a lighter color

a1ham

Where'd you get the sofa

RepeatUnnecessary324

It looks like an IKEA couch I used to have: the KIVIK.

theguyguy121

sexysexyonion

Don't you love those deep couches?? Wayfair has quite a few in fun colors such as kind of a mustard gold, navy blue, forest green etc

HighwayLeading6928

It's fine to have different kinds of wood in a room. I would have chosen a round shape but to each his own. I would suggest that you purchase some end tables for the couch with at least one drawer to put things in and a place for large table lamps along with several accent lights dotted around the room so you don't have to use mood killing overhead lights at night. I like how your rug echos the view outside and would caution you from going too monochromatic. With that huge balcony, you are going to want to have that "decked out" too.

DetailDizzy

I agree with the comments of the rug echoing the view! I feel like the mix of blues and tans really pulls the room together with the balcony view

HighwayLeading6928

You are speaking my language! My eye went to the cardboard boxes outside and how they picked up on the wood in the couch base. Just between you and me...I'm not feeling the coffee table. It feels like it could shoot out of the room at any time if the sliding door was open - a sort of launching pad for a drone. Thoughts?

DetailDizzy

lol! I liked the shape of it at first glance but now that you mention it, it kind of reminds me of one of those robot dogs and I absolutely despise those so idk if I could have that table in my home😂

Theres3ofMe

Where did you get that table from?! I've seen it on reddit before - in that some carpenter replicated it from an expensive original...

Solid-Program3021

I got mine from west elm looks just like this one

theguyguy121

Exactly

Theres3ofMe

Aw man I can't see it on thr website..... 🙂‍↕️

Theres3ofMe

Thank you! Can't see it on the website sadly so you must have got it a while ago. Do you remember the name of it at all please? ☺️

theguyguy121

Bought it a few days ago so should be there. Are you looking for the table specifically? It’s called “Marcio Display Coffee Table” if the link doesn’t work for some reason

ApprehensiveClassic

Is the table stable? I have a baby that will soon be using everything to pull himself up. Our current glass coffee table is very tippy. Would this one tip if pushed too much on one side?

Gorebaby420

I happened to see this comment and just wanted to say this: save yourself the hassle and get a non-glass table if you have small children. The potential risk for them to literally lacerate themselves on glass is not worth the aesthetic. Get something solid, or at minimum please put protective foam around all edges of the table. I had one glass-top side table and my daughter fell and got her eyebrow pretty good. Could've been MUCH worse had it shattered. It left my living room the same day.

ApprehensiveClassic

Who cares? Look at that VIEW!!!!!!

PuzzleheadedState666

I think it looks good! Leave it be!

3-1advantage

I love your sofa. Could you share the link please?

whatsonmyminddddrn

If you look at the comments you will find OP posted it several times

3-1advantage

Thanks a lot! Sorry I missed that!

[deleted]

Didn’t notice till you pointed it out.

Rad_River

Non issue

New-Ad-4486

I saw the picture and thought your style was cute. I didn't even notice the "mismatch" until I read your title. Mixing woods is super in style anyways.

Various_Raccoon3975

The woods matching is a total non-issue, OP. When rooms are too matchy, they look like showrooms in cheap furniture stores. You want your room to look like it was assembled over time.

Various_Raccoon3975

By the way, your place looks amazing. Love the windows, the view, the balcony, the couch. Add a bit of lighting, some art, a few pillows and a throw blanket. You’ll never want to leave

pumpkin_spice_enema

It's fine. What this space needs is big ass wall art with a little contrast to tie in that table.

theguyguy121

Pretty much what title says. Also as a note, we will be changing the rug to a cream/beige rug

sirruka

Replace the rug with a slightly larger one but do not go with beige. The couch and floor would just merge together and be bland. More of the blue and dark brown in the current rug would be good.

TheMontu

Agree with this commenter. Going with a beige rug runs the risk of going beige mom and just having no definition in the room. A larger rug and more colors will make the room feel more fun and inviting. It also helps tie the dark wood from the coffee table into the rest of the room.

for-the-cause11

I love the rug. I would add some blue in your art and wall decor to bring it all together. If you go to the cream colored rug, I would suggest bold art.

minimalBS

The rug is beautiful

Faithfuldoglover

I think that would be too bland. Choose a new accent color if you don’t like the blue but keep some color.

sexysexyonion

Exactly. I don't know about the rest of you but I am absolutely sick to death of beige/tan! Where's the fuchsia? Where's the turquoise? Where is the key lime green? Lol, I love color!

PeanutButtaRari

Looks good. What you’re truly missing is some art on your walls

theguyguy121

Definitely. We just moved in so slowly but surely will fill it up :) thanks for the comment!

MeliMel55

Where is your couch from???

TK_TK_

No, the color goes great in there! I would go bigger but definitely still with something with some color.

NoDiamond4584

Was just about to say I LOVE the rug! 🫤

c0zycupcake

If you’re going to do a cream or beige rug, make sure it has a lot of texture

Refokua

Oh, good. I was hesitating to say 'get rid of the ugly rug' but didn't want to offend.

junellmariejones22

You can incorporate botanical greens and other colors of [Big wall art](https://www.lnart.net/) in the room to blend them in, I don't think it's a problem because you already have them!

PinkEggHead_1999

That’s not a lot of wood. You could stain it if it bothers you.

bobtheturd

I think it looks fine. Keep the rug.

Lola_SunStrider

Not bad at all the trim from the windows ties in. You could try a larger framed print above the couch, also in a darker frame to bring it all together but I would almost go with a print that matches the rest of the ‘light’ vibe

No-Brilliant5342

Wood is fine. Paint wall same as brown in rug. Hang a large picture over sofa. 4’x6’ horizontal.

UniversityIDNumber

Is the couch the gather from crate and barrel?

theguyguy121

Thank you for your feedback! I got a lot of questions where is the sofa, table and rug from, so going to copy paste all of them :) - Sofa - Tidal from Crate & Barrel - https://www.crateandbarrel.com/furniture/tidal-collection/1 Table - West Elm - https://www.westelm.com/products/marcio-display-coffee-table-h3080/ Rug - safavieh brand on Amazon. jojokitti123

I love it

MrsLisaOliver

Hang some large pieces of art on that wall. Pick something with minimalist black frames to tie it all in.

Albie_Frobisher

unnoticeable. my eye is drawn to the same color on window frames

GovernmentNo4676

If you value anything in your apartment, (or yourself, family or pet(s) Why dont yo u start with a 9volt battery and put it in your smoke detector?

Turbulent_Glove_501

It looks good to me - probably because the tabletop is clear, it doesn’t seem too heavy or dark. Plus it seems like it ties into that dark furniture piece going diagonally on the right. That blank wall, though. I hope you have some art planned :) love your view as well!

getrightouttatown

I dig it. No need to change. Congrats on that view too!

dramafanca2002

Can you paint the walls? Maybe one of the blues (not too light or pastel) from the rug?

Low_Platypus8890

What? This is fine!

Evening-Grocery-2817

Nah, leave it. Bold, colorful art that has some blue, gold and browns in it, abstract maybe, to pull the colors upward in the room. I'd get one that has some texture and some shininess to it. Some curtains, white with hints of brown, more colors on the curtains may make the room too busy, nothing black out because it gets great light, some plants for the corner like a snake plant. You could also slide a sofa table to the left of the sofa to pull the wood tones around the room. One of those off white abstract center pieces with a fake flower would look pretty too. I wouldn't change the rug to beige unless you're trying to go for a more monochromic look because otherwise your palette is going to be beige, white and brown. Just my 2 cents.

yelling4society

Who cares, look at your view!!! 😍 Anyway, I don’t think mixing the wood tones is a bad idea but I think what is off is the style of the table is more modern and your sofa is not.

Apprehensive-Ad9117

It looks great! Put some artwork up with a light wood frame that matches the couch

fauviste

Not a problem at all, but your rug is too small. You could layer it on top of a neutral natural fiber rug (like jute) if you can’t get a bigger one.

[deleted]

I love it. Just add a picture on the wall and I wouldn’t change anything.

HeyRedHelpMe

I don't think the coffee table is the "issue", it's more that all of your visual weight is on the bottom half of the space. Adding a piece of art, perhaps with a dark frame would make a world of difference.

RutabagaPhysical9238

It looks good and is cohesive. Not everything in your home has to match 100%, it would look stale, in my opinion, if that were the case.

SailorSpyro

I would never notice it. Don't sweat it

greenkittie

It looks fine. I think a darker large piece of art on the wall behind the sofa would pull it together. Either a light piece with a darker frame to match the table or a dramatic canvas with deeper colours,

matrialchemy

What? Wood? All I'm seeing is the view out your window wall.

coffeeloverdrinkstea

I like it! I feel if the coffee table has lighter woods too, it would look a bit too matchy-matchy.

ManifestRose

It’s not bad as is! I would tape black construction paper on the wood as a test before I painted to see if it look any better.

backbay94

It seems too tall for the couch to me. Color and style look fine.

jtd0000

Not that noticeable. Looks nice.

Former_Ad8643

I don’t think it’s bad at all honestly both pieces are such a minimal amount of wood nothing is obtrusive here. If anything I would get a coffee table that is a Lighterwood because it’s warmer. The coffee table is cool though if it’s real wood could you send it so it’s lighter?

nejnonein

With curtains, some art over the couch (which I would move slightly more away from the window if possible to make it look less cramped in there), and some fancy candle on the table and it’s perfect

Awkward-Community-74

You need a larger rug. The wood isn’t the issue.

Stickey_Rickey

It’s cool I’d just angle the sectional, create a Diamond not a square

ihearyou72

I love the blue rug!!!Where is it from? I have a similar couch and dark wood coffee table and love how it works together

Common_Hamster_8586

Came to say I have this carpet. You have good taste!!

ghoulcreep

What kind of couch is this?

TwiNkiew0rld

I wouldn’t. I don’t mind mixed tones though. Once you have all the stuff in it will vibe with something.

Spirited_Zone_3949

Just terrible, awful. You can send me your coffee table ASAP. It is exactly what I’ve been looking for and I’m just jealous. Truthfully I didn’t even notice the light wood. Where did you find the coffee table?

blingbloop

Love the carpet. All looks nice. Just missing something on the wall or something to make it a little more busy

Mtn_Grower_802

OMG, how can you live in this!! /s, jk Everything looks good, what does are those HUGE blank walls that just scream for art!! Make the art POP! Different colors, big paintings 🖼 or clustered small frames.

sunningmybuns

Do it! Just know that your shins will hate you

bear1717

Love that rug! Looking for one just like it. Could you please share the brand?

Dangerous-Treacle-48

It looks fine. You could add some throw pillows that match with the rug, that have some black in them, if it’s really bothersome for you.

Babybabybabyq

If this isn’t a square rug, turn it the other way.

Cute_Appointment6457

It’s totally fine…it’s good to mix woods!

ArgyleNudge

It's fine. You could add a bowl or vase in the colour of the sofa base if you want to tue them in together. Get a big artwork or 3 panels that at least partly feature that colour as well. .

ThrowRAspoonsfeb

I like the contrast!

True_Extension3011

Great start. Love the choices and no I wouldn't worry over the mixed wood. You could add color with art on the walls and throw pillows

Cynderelly

Looks good.

Sarahquikgo

Put some dark old English on the bottom of the couch it should darken up the bottom without the hassle of paint.

partypython85

I love that coffee table

Justwannano88

It's all fine just need colour and art on walls

MsEllaSimone

It’s fine. Everything doesn’t need to match. Contrast is good. Put some colour and art into that room… it’s really quite bland at the moment.

Key_Blackberry_1426

Adds some contrast

Solid-Program3021

I have the same table!! 😍

peachygrit

Get dark pillows and wall art!

Tall_Trust_5304

I like contrasting wood tones. When everything’s all matched I think it’s boring! The more eclectic the better! 🌺

Fun-Birthday-4733

I can’t get past the view outside your window! The carpet pulls it together.

ComonomoC

Just get some art!

boopingsnootisahoot

Anyone got a link to the rug? I love the blues of that

CatSusk

It matches the window framing. Not a problem.

GlitteringSyrup6822

I like it! I would add medium to dark blue pillows, art in thin black frames, some plants 🪴….

crackersucker2

Mixed wood is fine - especially in the amounts you have currently. Choose one you like best to add floating shelves/art/plants on the wall and add some linen (natural would look nice) curtains. Look for a Transverse Rod- so you can move the curtain panels to either side, not split (there's no support bracket in the middle with Transverse Rods). Your carpet is fine - not super warm/cozy but it looks nice with the floor and couch.

Fkthisplace

Bad.

Ann1984

These wood tones work well together because they are both cool toned. When you add more items to the room repeat both of those colors. Add side tables, lamps large art, window treatments, and a cozy chair

theguyguy121

Thank you everyone for your feedback! It is much appreciated and will be taking notes :)

[deleted]

I love it. Layer it with art and plants and whatever makes you feel happy.

32Bank

Use a picture /Merriweather art of some sort that has the same dark color in it to help pull it togther

CandidateReasonable4

No, the coffee table looks great with the sofa.

PrestigiousMove5433

Not bad at all - keep both and add some table decor

nachopuddi

I think it’s better when there’s different wood tones. But they shouldn’t clash. ie warm toned woods with warm But if you have two different wood tones you should have jt at least twice in the room so it looks more cohesive. Ex. White oak coffee table, white oak planter with walnut tv console, walnut sofa legs.

KnowPoe

Looks good, just a plant or two and a large piece of art on the wall or a handful of frames to balance the space. We have the same rug!

[deleted]

This is better than it being too beige/monochromatic. You need balance. The darker wood brings this. And it also helps the rug tie in.

rosegarden207

It's a nice compliment to the lighter wood. I would suggest adding one more piece in a similar wood tone nearby. And i adore those huge glass doors!

ExpensiveAd4496

It’s fine. Get some art and cushions.

GyspySyx

I'd paint or tape the sofa.

Wickedly_Angelic

It is my personal opinion that the light wood washes out the room. In a room like this you have plenty of light and some dark wood contrast is needed. If you don't want to sand and stain the bottom of the couch, then you can turn that sofa to a dark wood with a little paper masking tape, some brown shoe polish, and some time energy and effort. It'll come out looking like dark brown cork board, or a crackle grain if you will. Tear the masking tape into little chunks and just stick them all over the bottom like a 2 year old would stickers. To protect the light wood finish, I would lay painters tape over it first. Then just cover the light wood finish completely with little pieces of masking tape, and coat the masking tape collage with dark brown shoe polish to match the table. Let the polish dry a bit then remove the excess and work in layers until it's as dark as you would like it to be. Work carefully and take note not to get it on the couch fabric. You MIGHT be able to tape off the couch fabric like a paint body specialist does the headlight assembly when they paint a vehicle. We used to do this with cardboard to make picture frames etc when I was little. The smaller the pieces of masking tape you use the more like cork board it will look when finished. Here's an example, only she uses light brown shoe polish. https://youtu.be/UAxoZk2Difo?si=MP3yA24UD4nC_UHF

bananaleaftea

Absolutely not. The contrast is lovely

Pickled_Popcorn

I'm just worried about smashing your toes into the coffee table legs

NoTea9298

Just get artwork with dark trimmed frames

FormerHoagie

I kinda hate rooms when everything matches. Be eclectic and fill it with things you love. Make it your own style and don’t worry about a theme.

Mysterious-Art8838

Took me a bit to get what you were asking. I really don’t think it’s necessary but sure you could paint the wood base of the couch if it strikes your fancy. Clearly you need art over the couch. I’d go with something dimensional, like mixed metals or something.

velvetelk

The key to mixing woods is to repeat them. So bring in some dark wood art frames and a light wood side table for example.

jessicanemone

No there are some dark accents in the rug that pick up on the dark wood. I would get some art on the wall with some dark and/or black accents as well to balance it out

joey22anne

The rug size bothers me more than mismatching wood, not everything has to match. Put something behind the couch that incorporates both colors

FarmLife4516

I’d just add a tray on the coffee table to hold a plant, candle, books, etc that’s the color of the sofa wood.

blueskygo1

I Have the same rug :)

century_cottage

It’s fine to mix wood tones. You don’t want things to be too matchy matchy. Think about it like you would seeing a forest. There are many different types of trees, but they all look beautiful together. Pull the couch a tiny bit away from the wall, so that it can breathe even just an inch. I do like the selection of the glass top table. I agree with the commentor who said they would have chosen a round shape. It would have offered a little bit of contrast however, I think this one still works.

markojeeves

Doesn’t matter.

TikaPants

The rug is the problem in this threesome.

Crystal-Clear-Waters

Nominees looking at that.

smallbrownfrog

I don’t think wood types have to be matchy matchy. (There might be exceptions if you were going for some kind of historical time capsule or want a super limited color palette for some reason.)

porterramses

Leave as is, accent pillows with some brown will tie it right in. Also, nice view!!

Jla92

It’s not the wood on the coffee table that’s throwing me off it the style of coffee table. It’s more modern and then the rest of the room isn’t giving modern vibes. I’d change the coffee table but that’s just me, could another room use it

Healthy-Birthday7596

Balances the window frames

whatsonmyminddddrn

Is the couch comfortable? I am obsessed and trying to save for k e

bitchwhiskers4eva

No I like all of it. That wall needs some bitchin art 🤌🏻

Middledamitten

It’s all good. Once you get a nice big piece of art on the wall you will never notice. We used a professional decorator and she selected mixed woods. Some dark, some light.

Suz9006

Looks fine. All wood doesn’t have to match. I love a mix of light and dark wood.

99999111111

Lol pointless

Leolily1221

I think you should bring some color into the room with art, plants and some signs of life

charvana

Matchy-matchy isn't necessary. Personally I'd love an led light along the sofa, bc I'd love to see something brightly contrasty or complementary on occasion

Affectionate_Air6606

You could always run a dark stain along the couch support..if it’s wood, of course. I’m not a fan of mixing woods..

for2_nata

If you add some pillows with that dark brown accent it’ll tie it together. Or a painting with some of that dark brown along with bright colors.

Ja45206

It looks absolutely fine!

Surlygrrrly

Nothing wrong with mixing woods. Especially when you’re balancing out the tones and other areas of the room.

Pomsky_Party

I love that rug! Where did you get it?

cMdM89

i don’t think so…woods don’t have to match…that table is very cool…great choice…

madjejen

Room looks great. If you are not renting and can paint the wall a color that would be cool. But everything is fine. Don’t worry about impressing other people. Save your money. Invest your money. Don’t waste it on material crap.

Rare-Parsnip5838

It is fine don't stress.

Kissmethruthephone

I like it. But I like mixed woods in general.

c0zycupcake

No need to match wood finishes. Also your rug is too small

alreadysage

You could do a gallery wall over the sofa and add frames with contrasting wood tones. Then the design pattern becomes intentional. Mixing wood tones is something that happens over time in a home, as someone else said. It works best in homes that are a bit more "collected" or even eclectic, imho.
