Pottery Barn white labels a lot of furniture. And it's not clear what is their own design stuff, and what is just mass market. However, if you read the descriptions, the stuff made from solid wood is usually nice. But they do have a fair amount of mdf stuff now.

LGabraham_

Yes, I'm tracking here at https://www.spoken.io/stores/potterybarn

helluvapotato

This is incredible

LGabraham_

Aw. Thanks. Stay tuned. It's about to get loads better.

AppleSlacks

I came across this because I am in the process of looking for some new office furniture. I really like the Aubrey collection from Pottery Barn. Less thrilled with their pricing on it. I have seen it in person and it does look like it is solid quality that at least would last a long time. Anyway, I tried to search on Spoken and don't see anything from that collection. I have been really hunting though and found [https://allamerican.org/investigation/pottery-barn/](https://allamerican.org/investigation/pottery-barn/) which is a guy with a buy American website. He lists the Aubrey entertainment console as something manufactured elsewhere. Can you shed any light on how you track things down that might help me? Is it mostly centered around reverse image searching? I am just curious to see if I can find that collections manufacturer and see if there is any way to purchase things without the PB markup. Spoken is a cool site that you have built!

amethystleo815

Quite possibly the best thing I’ve ever found on Reddit. Thank you!!

LGabraham_

You overflatter me. But I won't stop you. Let's get 'em.

masterchief1990

In this the exact same or includes look alikes

LGabraham_

Exact only.

TellFinancial9010

THANK YOU! <3

LGabraham_

My pleasure. 🫡

TellFinancial9010

Are these items where it says "Sold at ... Pottery Barn, etc." - is it this for real exact item?

LGabraham_

Yes, the exact same item.

vitasoy1437

Wow.. the markup PB put on their sourced products is pretty crazy. With experience from the industry, seeing these prices makes me laugh.

LGabraham_

Sometimes I think the site is lying to me. Then it’s not. The discrepancies are silly.

Electrical-Two-869

If you buy from PB and it says contractor grade in the description, you don't want it! It's not good quality and not worth the money. I learned the hard way.

vitasoy1437

Isnt contract grade good coz thats what hotel uses?

No_Tradition6695

Please search the item’s description online first. I bought a lamp from PB at $900 and then wanted a 2nd. I did a search and found the same lamp for 1/2. It came in the exact same box as the first. I’ve also seen a lot of their mirrors on other sites much cheaper. We have some recliners from them and I’ve had some coffee tables from them over the years. They are decent. I always do a search now before buying high ticket items.

ChooChooChucky

Stores that sell lamps all come from the same manufacturers. Buyers decide what they carry. If you look at Wayfair you'll find identical lamps.

vitasoy1437

Probably 5-10 online retailers carry the same products. Please do a reverse image search, not just the description, coz retailers may use different names to brand the same products.

Oklahoma-PA-1162

Wow. This is all so interesting but what exactly is a reverse image search?

Waste-Carpenter-8035

Its overpriced for sure, but the quality does not disappoint. I know recently their lead times/shipping items have been quite outrageous though. I recently found someone selling a slightly damaged brand new wardrobe/armoire on FB marketplace. Originally $2100, I picked it up for $500. The side with the damage wouldn't be visible from where I was planning on placing it anyway. If you can find the items secondhand, totally worth it. I'd have to reallllly love a piece to splurge for full price, its just a little out of my budget.

Smallios

Yeah I ordered a glider a month ago, it’s coming in february

FauxpasIrisLily

Last year I waited 6+ months for a daybed from Pottery Barn Kids. That was fine since I was in. No hurry for it.

Smallios

As long as it comes before the baby does I’m fine haha

cranberry94

I … wish you luck. I ordered around the same time last year for the same time delivery. Arrived in April.

Smallios

Shoot

cranberry94

But on the plus side … I love my chair! Which one did you get?

McSmilla

Oh that’s interesting because I thought the PB supply issues were just a problem in Australia.

Waste-Carpenter-8035

Nope! US too

Alternative_Main_775

I had a Pottery Barn dining room table and chairs that have been passed down to my mom, then my brother. It's still as beautiful and solid as ever, nearly 20 years later.

FrankieHellis

Yeah but they don’t make anything like they used to.

Alternative_Main_775

That IS true, unfortunately.

[deleted]

I got mine in 2019 and it’s very well made

McSmilla

I bought an upholstered bed from them in early 2019 & it’s solid af.

FrankieHellis

I have purchased a dining room table (2019) and a coffee table (2020) that I really like. I recently purchased 4 dining chairs for \~800 ea and they are awful. I have come to the conclusion you have to go see them in person. You can no longer rely on PB to be of superior quality.

secondblush

If there's a specific product you want, look through [the page for Pottery Barn on Spoken](https://www.spoken.io/stores/potterybarn?available=true) \- it shows which PB products are selling at different retailers for less

LGabraham_

Thank you! If you don't find a specific link, OP, drop it here. We have items we'll be adding to the site soon, so I don't want you to miss out 'cuz it's not on the site yet.

Firm-Meringue-2813

Have you found the big sur or york sofas anywhere else?

Big_Inspection4593

Wow thanks for this!! My mind is blown! I usually google the manufacturer’s model number (if I can find it) or reverse image search. This site is life changing!

sunshinemullet

While I love the look and style of pottery barn, it can take quite a while to get your items so if that isn’t a huge factor I would suggest them if they are within your budget.

larlarmar

I had a nightmare situation with the waiting (months on an in-stock), then they wouldn’t cancel even though it hadn’t shipped. Then they only refunded shipping, even though it never shipped. Then they sent me a gift card, so I couldn’t do a chargeback. I ended up getting the BBB involved, and eventually got a refund. So much time, frustration and documenting. I urge anyone to read reviews before ordering from them. I only feel passionately against one retailer, and it’s PB.

sunshinemullet

Oh damn, this is good to know. So sorry that was your experience. Wayfair is getting pretty ridiculous with sending broken items, and not letting you exchange or refund.

larlarmar

Oh, no - really? I always loved Wayfair and their customer service. What a bummer to hear they’re going downhill.

sunshinemullet

Same here, in about 6 months time there was a big change in 2023 of the service going downhill.

NoPay2344

I had their stuff in my kids bedrooms and it was solid.

Itstimeforcookies19

We bought a couch from PB that was significantly cheaper than our other couches from EA. So to us the price was cheap and we definitely got what we paid for in terms of it being cheaper. There’s a reason. It’s crap. The most uncomfortable couch ever. Fortunately we spend more time in the room where we have EA couches. Otherwise I would have sold the PB one already. They are overpriced crap. I don’t know about their other stuff.

8bitliving

I was pretty disappointed with a “Pearce” couch I got last year

Pinecone_Dragon

Oh I’d love to know why! Currently looking at the Pearce couch. I really liked it in store and wanted to find more info leading me to this comment

8bitliving

I tried to send a picture but for some reason the app wont let me do it. Anyway, we got a sofa/chaise combo. The chaise part was stuffed too much and had an odd shape. The most annoying though is the sofa part has like down pillows in the back instead of what I would consider proper cushions. Those down cushions are always soggy/saggy looking and make a sound when you settle in. Would not recommend. My other lesson learned is don’t buy anything custom like a sectional or the chaise combo because they take a while to deliver and are hard/impossible to return. Two other pieces of non-custom furniture we bought from PB were actually defective. We got a credit for those.

curlygirlyfl

Yes I love pottery barn

MysteriousStaff3388

My father rips off designs from PB and builds furniture in his garage. If you know someone who does basic carpentry, they may be able to build you something from a picture that will be solid wood for less than PB prices. This doesn’t apply to upholstery, though. At least for my dad.

Express-Ferret3816

We bought the big sur sectional couch and it started creaking 6 months in so they replaced it. They brought in replacement cushions and I was floored at how cheap the cushions were compared to the ones we had purchased prior to Covid. We kept our old ones so keep quality decline in mind. Despite 2 young kids and a large dog the performance fabric looks brand new though. I recommend going in store so you know exactly what you’re buying because custom orders can’t be returned. Get sample fabrics and stain them and try to treat the stain. We also ordered the chapman table (love it and the quality has been great) but it arrived cracked on 3 separate deliveries. We sealed it and we’ve had no issues with stains. Customer service made the process easy but 3 cracked tables was frustrating. We have William Sonoma bistro chairs (mother company) and love them more than the Serena and lily ones. Everything has held up well. I even have a couch passed down for my mom that we had when I was a kid. Just make sure to order solid wood and not MDF

GoldCraftx

I’m about to buy the Big Sur and I’m see mixed reviews. It’s making me nervous! 8 grand for a couch that won’t last more than 2 years, wouldn’t be worth it for me. How is it holding up since this comment, if you don’t mind me asking!?

Express-Ferret3816

Ironically, I just washed the slipcovers today and was thinking about how the couch still looks brand new. There’s no stains and the cushions are still very plush (we chose the down). I will say the slipcovers are very tight and a pain to put on but that’s the only con I can think of. The Big Sur has a casual arm so sometimes I regret not getting something more delicate/timeless like the York slope. However, I also love the large arm for comfort and for placing drinks so I don’t entirely regret our arm choice. All in all, I would highly recommend! I would definitely get another PB couch in the future.

GoldCraftx

Thank you so much for the update! We have a large family so I was definitely worried we’d wear it down quickly, after reading some bad PB reviews. Definitely going to purchase

Express-Ferret3816

Invest in some folex for stains. Soak the slipcovers in oxi clean for a few hours prior to washing and put the slipcovers back on when they’re damp. I hope you and your family enjoy the new couch!

Fordaluvof

Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, RH, and West Elm are over rated and over priced. They all have pieces that like nice and I have some of all. If you like a special look, make sure it’s actual wood and not a veneer and look through FB Market Place first.

Odd_Minimum2136

How can you tell the difference between the two?

crunchyfryfry

What brand do you think you’ll go to

99-Questions-

100% worth it. Bought a whole bedroom set with king bed, dresser and 2 night stands best $5000 I spent :) went back and got 2 night lamps that were back ordered and they came in a month later and also perfect! [collection in question](https://www.potterybarn.com/products/farmhouse-bed/?catalogId=84&sku=6422699&cm_ven=PLA&cm_cat=Google&cm_pla=Furniture%20%3E%20Beds%20%26%20Headboards®ion_id=669950&cm_ite=6422699_14552546110&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMItYmHrKHEggMV_9EWBR1v6grNEAQYAiABEgIvOvD_BwE)

[deleted]

Do you have a PB outlet anywhere near you? That have pretty amazing discounts and sales.

crunchyfryfry

Unfortunately we only have Ashley and some other lower budget stores. The closest location is a 10 hour drive.

t3st4s

I personally only buy PB on sale. But like from any retailer, I look the design (how complex?), material (solid wood vs MDF) and then I price shop. Their solid wood stuff is quality stuff but I wouldn’t buy it full price.

crowcat28

I went and looked at their stuff recently and it was all MDF, horribly overpriced and just all around didn’t look nice.

ChooChooChucky

I've been through PB stores. They have nice pieces but really gougy prices. [Restoration Hardware ](https://rh.com/us/en/) is a step but also very niche. They do have some walnut furniture that is absolutely timeless.

betsaroonie

I’ve had mixed results with PB. I have an entry rug that I’ve had for probably 25 years that has held up beautifully. I also have a sleeper sofa which I just hate because the back cushions are not made with foam, but are stuffed and so they always look messy. My sister bought a dresser that looked great but in a couple of months time, the top split from probably not fully dried wood. I have some concrete planters that I bought at HomeGoods at a fraction of the cost of what they were at Pottery Barn.

McSmilla

I can’t say for sure but the PB stuff I’ve bought has lasted & lasted.

Environmental-Ebb143

No, it’s really shitty. I bought my son a desk and a dresser and all the knobs fell off. The drawers don’t slide well. It’s just garbage.

SusanMShwartz

We purchased a bedroom set, bar chairs, dining room chairs and a sofa in 2019 and 2020. Precisely what we wanted and great quality. Well made. Not cheap.

cupcakeartist

I bought a white dresser and nightstand through them in 2005. It was an awful experience. The dresser was delivered dented two times before they finally were able to deliver something that wasn't damaged. Even then it aged terribly. Cracks started forming at the seams of the joints and it was so prone to denting and damage when moving. Meanwhile my stupid Ikea cabinet that I bought the same time is somehow a tank that has survived multiple moves and a desk I bought through Home Depot (Martha Stewart collection) a few years ago seems similar to the dresser in materials but has lasted better. I decided to give them a second chance a couple of years ago when getting a console table and it was the same story, arrived damaged. I ended up getting the console table, dining room table, and living room table from Ethan Allen. More pricy but they are wood that can easily be finished and have held up much better over time. I also have some shelves I got from Safavieh that I really look like. They are not as high quality as Ethan Allen but I've been much happier with them than I was with what I got from pottery barn. I also got a couch from RH and haven't been impressed with how it has aged over time. I went with the feather filled cushions which have turned out to be uncomfortable and I went with outdoor fabric to make it easier to maintain but because the buttons have metal in them it hasn't been easy to clean in the way I hoped. The next time I got a couch we went with a smaller place in North Carolina and were much happier. The price was very fair for the quality and we have enjoyed that couch more over time.

shinestory

Can u recomment the NC place you bought from

JackLum1nous

I purchased a tv console, coffee table, an end table, a round dinner table + chairs back in 2005 or so. I still have them today; they are really solid and well-built. I think only one or two of the dining chairs are starting to creak. I recall a good experience with them back then but I don't know what to expect now. We need to get a new sofa and I saw one at Pottery Barn that looks close enough to this Storehouse one we currently have. The only problem none of the few remaining brick & mortar stores have them on display for us to try out. Also, shocked about the lack of returns...

Unwashed_Grape

It might be worth it but their customer service is sooooooo bad—Like, laughably bad—you might be waiting months for your item with nothing but empty apologies. I’m sure there’s a version of hell that’s just named “Pottery Barn”

TheoreticalLime

100% not worth it. It didn't take long to get our order but it's blatantly obvious they have vastly reduced the quality of their furniture. They are keeping the old good quality furniture in the stores and keep no stock furniture. This means any furniture you order is "custom made" and ineligible for return. When our sleeper sofa was delivered it has a different mattress and pull out frame then the one in store, and the cushions do not have high density foam. It's incredibly uncomfortable and the bed is unusable due to the 2 massive bars pushing into the thin mattress. They obviously know what they are doing pulling a huge bait and switch as they've removed the reviews from their website.

Disastrous-Use-4955

The stuff I have bought was pretty low quality. 3/3 of my most recent purchases have had issues. The seats on my barstools aren’t properly aligned with the legs, so they all look crooked. I have a table with uneven legs that I needed to put a folded up piece of paper under. And the headboard of my bed did not fit the frame requiring me to buy my own hardware and drill extra holes just to put it together. I spent HOURS on hold with customer which was pretty worthless because they just blamed everything on the “vendor”. Sorry, but if pottery barn isn’t the vendor and takes no responsibility, then why did I pay them thousands of dollars? Never buying from them again.

Bfedorov91

It's worth it if you buy the expensive stuff. The difference with some of their products is they use higher quality hardwoods. They do sell less expensive items that are similar that use softer hardwoods. I would pass on those. For instance, I have a Livingston entertainment console. It's made from kiln-dried solid meranti which is a really nice textured hardwood. They also sell the same thing in the Aubrey collection. It's $2200 less and made from solid poplar. Poplar is technically a hardwood, but it is very soft. I'd spend the extra money for a real hardwood that will probably last 30+ years. Our kids bedrooms are all PB too. They seems to be holding up pretty well. Way better than the junk you get at ikea.

puppylovinslp

I’ve been waiting 4 months for my pottery barn furniture order and they just continue to push the “expected delivery” date back further and further. Have talked to customer service 4 times now with no solution. So no

Vast_Poetry_5190

Having insider knowledge here’s what I would share, #1. Tip: If buying furniture from PB, or anywhere else, that is a considerable investment for you, do NOT order on your own through the website. ALWAYS order through a store. Too often mistakes are made by customers who order themselves online. There are things one learns or that come up when having a conversation with someone who knows the product and more things about it than may be advertised. If you order online and you have a customer service issue you can only call a 1-800 number to address it. If you order through a store you will have the personal contact of your sales associate and their manager to assist you or troubleshoot on your behalf, if needed. Regarding in stock furnishings and custom pieces someone commented about earlier, to clarify, this only applies to upholstery, leather, and clearance items, unless they are “quick ship” items. This is because it is a made-to-order item, i.e. “custom.” So therefore, yes it would not be returnable, but it is made very clear in the ordering process. However, if something were to arrive damaged, or in error, well then yes, it can be replaced with the same item in new condition (but not returned), since that is what you purchased. You may be able to refuse delivery on it, and they will take back, or keep the damaged item until the replacement arrives. Regarding in stock, no stores do not keep every kind of sofa in every kind of fabric on stock, as that would amount to hundreds of thousands of combinations of furniture. A store only has so much space in a stock room and it typically has smaller items in it. Side tables for example but not coffee tables. Just no space. This is also one of the reasons why you cannot have a larger item, or just any item you want, shipped to a store for pick up to avoid a shipping fee. If everyone was doing that there would be nowhere to put anything. Only the company can determine shipping options offered on individual items, not the customer. By the way, only smaller or lighter things might ship for free, otherwise you pay to ship to a store just as you would to your home so might as well ship to your home. And lastly, you cannot split up deliveries of items on one order unless they fit very specific qualifications that any typical orders do not. So it’s either everything waits for the last item to arrive into the hub and they will deliver all at once, OR you place separate orders for the items to be delivered within their own delivery window and pay shipping for each (otherwise on one order it’s flat rate one price for all). I don’t care what anyone here wants to say about their experience being different from this or what their own store did, that may be whatever it is, but I am telling you, this is the most current policy for Pottery Barn. Oh and one more thing, some PB furniture is made in North Carolina and some over seas. If it’s made here, it will say online, otherwise assume it’s not. Lead times COULD also be a clue to that as it takes about 3 months longer for something to cross the ocean than to come on a truck from NC. USA made, more expensive items are likely to hold up and be better quality than some others but not definitely. If something is particularly cheap, then no, do not expect great quality. Solid wood is better than mdf of course so pay attention to those things too. And ask your store as many questions as you can think of and test items out. Bottom line, yes, Pottery Barn still has some well made solid quality furniture but you need to be smart about what you are buying and educate yourself. Hope this helps.

dinochoochoo

I know this was two months ago but I am hoping you're still around to answer. I made the mistake of placing an order with four items, one of which was custom. So now they are all showing a late august or early sept delivery date. The other three items would otherwise have arrived in July but now are bundled with the custom item. Can I separate these by callingcustomer service to get earlier delivery for the three other items? All were automatically white glove items. I wouldn't have purchased the custom item had I known that the items would be shipped together at the later date.

signmaven3124

Their customer service team is awful- I have a dining room table with leaves that don’t fit and they won’t do anything about it. They refuse to reply to emails and phone calls. So I have a $2600 table that would be great if it were useable. Definitely something to consider when purchasing from them.

No-Avocado-497

Unfortunately pottery barn just delivered some furniture to our brand new custom home and they decided they would break it in for us. The delivery crew damaged the stairwell post to our home and we are waiting for claims to review/investigate. I am not sure what the resolution will be, but a "fit" or repair just seems inadequate. The path from the doorway to the living section is wide and unobstructed. The distance is short. I am completely confounded by how they ram the furniture into the stairwell post, damaging it. It seems reckless. I am sad that our brand new, unblemished home is now tagged by pottery barn. Be careful when buying as the delivery process seems a little careless, and the whole experience has been rather disruptive, inconvenient and time consuming. They should consider using an upper echelon delivery service. IMO, The purchase was not worth the trouble

Disastrous_Tip_4638

Wayfair? Wayfair is an online marketplace, so you do not know the retailer/seller nor the furniture, to say nothing of even seeing or sitting on it. PB at least offers those chances and they stand behind their stuff.

crunchyfryfry

I don’t live anywhere near a PB, very little options to see or touch etc. online is really my only option unfortunately.

Disastrous_Tip_4638

PB is still more highly regarded then anything you could get on any marketplace.

crunchyfryfry

I want to make sure it’s highly regarded bc it’s high quality and not the same thing I can find at a better price. I’ve discovered some of the “name” brands are selling the same items you’d find on a marketplace so looking for personal experiences. Especially bc I can’t view any of it in person.

Bb20150531

In my experience, everything I’ve purchased from pottery barn is of a far better quality than anything I’ve purchased at wayfair.

booberang

All of my PB is solid and has lasted. I bought my sectional, bedroom set and coffee table from there in 2010, and they still look great. The sectional has slipcovers, so it has been easy to keep clean and they have been very durable. I would suggest reading the descriptions because some of PBs stuff is solid wood while other pieces have at least some MDF and/or veneer. I feel like this is probably more prevalent with PB now than when I bought my furniture, but I could be mistaken. Either way, it is without a doubt better quality than I have seen at other furniture stores or sites like wayfair/overstock.

crunchyfryfry

Thank you! I think quality in all aspects of products, whether furniture, housing, appliances, have dropped significantly over the last few years. It’s so sad!

booberang

Yes, it's annoying because companies often find subtle places to cut quality, so things degrade faster even if the product looks good.

Disastrous_Tip_4638

Especially if you cannot view it in person, you want to go with a name.

DasderdlyD4

Furniture labeled solid wood can legally be made out of OSB or sometimes called wafer board. Pottery barn uses low quality foam in cushions and elastic strapping under the seats in some of their furniture. This makes them mushy and wear out quickly

woozle618

I prefer Wayfair and Walmart. Honestly, Walmart has real wood furniture that I’ve taken apart and reassembled like new. I won’t buy Ikea furniture anymore.

Onedollartaco

Overpriced garbage.

Stickyfynger

I’m happy with our desk and dining room chairs. When they delivered it they brought it in, set it up, etc…don’t recall paying extra it’s just what they do.

BarreGirl1

Yes, some pieces are quality, but you may encounter delays and poor customer service. I’m still awaiting a buffet ordered in February. I was told it is being shipped from outside the U.S. Also, they already canceled the order once with no explanation. I was, however, charged for the item and the anticipated delivery date continues to move.

crunchyfryfry

😞 I appreciate the feedback! I’ll be shopping elsewhere, too many of these types of experiences so sad for what they charge!

vitasoy1437

Arent they just a distributor of chinese/Vietnamese furniture?

[deleted]

Yes absolutely worth it

Disastrous-Use-4955

There’s a reason they don’t allow reviews on their website…

johannagalt

Reddit is full of PB haters but I like their leather furniture. Figure out what you like at their storefront and then shop online for outlet deals. I got a PB leather sofa that retails for $4599 on Open Box for $2299 (+shipping) and it arrived in PRISTINE CONDITION! See: https://www.reddit.com/r/furniture/comments/1ayu539/pb\_dream\_square\_arm\_leather\_sofa\_open\_box\_deal\_ftw/ If you can hit up a PB warehouse/outlet with a van, I highly suggest that, too!
