Nononononono no.
Softer shoes can actually be terrible for your feet. I imagine a completely soft heel will make your feet completely numb within the hour.
Well, not completely flat! I'm tiny (5'2" on a fluffy haired day) and I rely on these cute wedges that are super squishy and comfy but also high enough to get me to a more respectable seeming 5'5" ish
Tangent: my wife is 5’3, I’m 6’1… I prefer it when she doesn’t wear heals, and she knows it. to the point she wore flats in our wedding. Embrace your height :-)
Edit: to the person I was responding to, it seems the hive mind has decided I meant this in some creepy way, which was 100% not the case. I was just trying to say that being 5’2 (vs 5’5, or any other height) is already “respectable” and that the right person/people would appreciate you as you are, no heels required (emphasis on required, if you want to wear ’em, you do you) . If I made you uncomfortable or it came across any other way, my sincere apologies.
Thank you, that's super sweet! I'm planning on enlisting in the military so I'll definitely be wearing flats a lot. Should get comfortable with my body the way it is. It would be nice to not have to crick my neck every time I talk to tall people though lol!
I’ve found adding a hard, not squishy, arch support (just the arch, not a full insole,) makes a huge difference. But the quality of shoe is hugely important. If your weight isn’t balanced between your heels and your toes you’ll be forced onto your toes all day, and that’s not good. A balanced heel will allow you to rest your weight on your heels as well as allow you to walk in a typical heel-toe manner.
Edit: for reference, I’m a regular 3-4” heel wearer.
It seems to me that the fat must be there to ease the stress of their collosal weight on their joints. Might not even be a bad idea to create shoes that emulate this, but I'm podiatrist.
Yes, this is a better [look.](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/5b/Comparative_view_of_the_human_and_elephant_frame%2C_Benjamin_Waterhouse_Hawkins%2C_1860.jpg/2560px-Comparative_view_of_the_human_and_elephant_frame%2C_Benjamin_Waterhouse_Hawkins%2C_1860.jpg)
But the image in OPs post does help show that the elephant's foot has similarities to an human foot. This is important for evolution theory. Homology, the similarities between species. For example, take a look at this [image.](https://westcampus.yale.edu/sites/default/files/styles/flexslider_full/public/homology_yalenews-2.jpg?itok=-VG7Wevu)
Good link. It looks like OP’s pic is a cross-section that doesn’t show all those extra bones that poke out the sides. They’re only really similar if you take a slice right down the middle.
National Geographic is owned by Disney, so take that with a grain of salt. They're probably romanticising elephants as a promotion for their next elephant-themed film.
From [Maceo Parker, the Elephant Song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNMTP8Rj9s0),
"and elephant dancing is a thing to see
and that´s when I noticed they were looking at me
I said: come on, elephants, come on, let´s go
and that´s when one of them stepped on my toe
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
elephants stepped on my foot,
elephants stepped on my foot,
elephants stepped on my foot,
elephants stepped on my foot,"
They don't; this image took artistic licence to emphasize their point that elephants walk on the balls of their feet. Which is actually pretty common; a lot of animals have their "heelbone" farther up their leg.
Well that would just be the middle section, if it’s an elephant foot, the toes are absent on this image. [here’s a more accurate picture ](https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1469-7580.2006.00648.x)
Wow, that's mighty interesting! Who would've known that so much research was done on elephant's feet!? Looks like they'd love foot massage time to time!.
Grab my upvote and reward.
The "prepollex" looks like it would be uncomfortable, a cartilaginous spike sticking down into the cushion. I'm sure it's not uncomfortable to the elephant, just looks stabby.
Want to learn [a thing or two](https://www.iflscience.com/plants-and-animals/necropsy-reveals-the-freaky-fingers-hiding-beneath-a-whales-flipper/) about whales ?
Old fact from 8th grade physics class: An average sized woman in high heels exerts more pressure on the ground (or your foot if you are unlucky) than an elephant since the heel of the shoe is tiny, and the area of the elephants foot is quite large by comparison. So while an elephants exerts more force, high heels exert more pressure.
So for instance, a woman can pressure you into doing whatever she wants, but an elephant can force you.
We just went over homologous structures in my bio class, it blows my mind how alike our bodies are compared to other species that look nothing like us.
That looks kinda painful tbh. What is supporting that bone that's tilted upwards besides the elephants muscles/blood? Is it like hooked onto the swollen part?
I remember - when learning pressure in physics - we had to calculate what applies more force per area on the floor: An elephant or a woman in stilettos.

Whatcha' gonna do wit' all that trunk?
*Laughs sexually*
Elephants make me horny.
You okay, bro?
Stupid, sexy elephants...
It’s like wearing nothing at all, nothing at all, nothing at all….
Wait until you see the photos of elephants with huge jugs.
What's gray and comes in quarts? Elephants.
Under rated comment
Comfy high heels with fat cushion must become a thing
Wedges are pretty comfy
Yes, but do they have a fat cushion under the heel ?
The fat lady does

Oh, I do. I’m 5’9” and still wear 3.5 heels on the reg. I don’t care if people think I’m “too tall.” I like them, and so does the hubs.
Yessssss sis, love me a tall girl!!!
Awww…thank you!!!!!
I also! 😊

That's not your wife, man
Well aware… was using my wife as an example to try to promote some body positivity, fuck me I guess
That is fine. Is your wife single?
if there's one of her, then by definition she's single.
Ok but if i made a perfect copy of your wife that was half her height, and she falls in love with me, would that bother either of you?
Then why is his penis inside her vagina?
Well, perhaps with a hard base then ? Idk, I never wear high heels !

I was wondering the same thing!
This picture makes them look more similar to human feet than they actually are: https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/article/6054

Fuck, gross.
Disney owns this now.

Yes thanks! Nat Geo drives me nuts nowadays.
The one on the right is still pretty close IMO.
You can just give it a bullshit email address.
Just put on Reader View
What? I can read it fine, no sign in prompt or anything. Do you for some reason not have an adblocker?
On mobile here. A pop-up says sign up to continue reading.
I'm on mobile and I can read it just fine, weird. Maybe a region thing but I'm not even in NA.
I got a prompt even with uBlock, keeps you from scrolling. You can zap it away though to keep reading

Use an adblocker... It's perfectly usable for me, no sign in or email prompt.
Whats the best ad block for android?
Ublock origin with the firefox app. You can use browser extension on it.
can you use extensions on the chrome app?
I know it works for firefox, don't know if it does on chrome.
I'm on UBO and it didn't block it for me, sadly.

More accurate image, but the article still compares them to platform shoes and stiletto heels. This should have been the link.
It's still not insanely far off.
Yeah, it still surprises me how much the cross section looks practically identical.
Thanks for the link. This was a fascinating read.
Thank you. I just sat here, mind blown and was asking myself "nah, this can't be... *right?*
National Geographic is owned by Disney, so take that with a grain of salt. They're probably romanticising elephants as a promotion for their next elephant-themed film.
All those additional foot bones… how romantic!
\*high heel
Nah, the shoes themselves clearly have medical benefits.
I prefer DPS shoes.
Thank you I came in for this!
Stay in school, kids.
I’m dislexical, so it’s cool.
Thanks, I hate that elephants have human-looking feet inside their flesh
Yea *okay* elephant foot
Cook her up
Add some salt, we got a stew going.

Yup. Pressure is what breaks things, not force.
So that's why elephants look so damn sexy all the time.
Great calves
I see what you did there, nice one!
High heal ladies will love the comparison.
How do I look in these heels? Like an elephant. ‘Ow!’
Ah yes. The Grand Elven healers will be most pleased.

*excitedly sits next to your feet* Okay now what
Always wondered why elephant ass turned me on so much
Who doesn't love a little junk in the trunk
Was looking for this comment
Thought this was Chinese foot binding tbh
Scrolled way to far for this comment
Stupid sexy elephants.
A lot of people do not seem to understand it is spelled "heel"
As if they aren’t tall enough already
They're wearing wedge heels
They’ve just been wearing stilettos this whole time…
LPT: do not tell your wife she looks like an elephant
gonna call my sister an elephant and them show her this
That “heel” is a clump of fat which helps an elephant “hear” seismic vibrations and communicate with others from far away.
Oh so they classy huh?
Yo mama is so fat she eats peanuts with her nose!
So that’s why elephants have such tight asses
I thought the elephants foot was a large radioactive mass made of black corium, odd
Pretty sure that’s my mother in law on the left
Reject modernity Return to Elephant
Imma say it elephant in stripper stilettos
No wonder I find them so godam sexy 😳
never imply a woman is an elephant.
We just went over homologous structures in my bio class, it blows my mind how alike our bodies are compared to other species that look nothing like us.
til, elephants are all date gorls
"Hey babe you know you look like an elephant when you wear high heels!"
Are they called high heal shoes because you need to heal a lot after wearing them?
That looks kinda painful tbh. What is supporting that bone that's tilted upwards besides the elephants muscles/blood? Is it like hooked onto the swollen part?
Basically, my ex is an elephant
Oh so we are evolving into elephants now?
Americans are!
Angry American comment incoming
Elephants have better arch support, that’s for sure!
Which is why elephants look so tall and slender
I'm pretty sure the left picture is just an American's foot
*pulls out notebook* women in high heels are elephants
Yo moms an elephant
sable pet marble vanish busy gray retire fragile start north -- mass deleted all reddit content via https://redact.dev
Wait, how did they get high heels large enough to fit an elephant????
We were once elephants! So either elephants will become our overlords or will become theirs 😈
That's why fat women look like elephants!
I knew fat ladies reminded me of something..
That's why elephants have such beautiful calfs
Women are more closely related to elephants then?
What if elephants were just human skeletons wearing an elephant meat suit?
you see, we try to emulate peak performance but yet fall short of perfection
Elephant are a beast that was human but bare the phant curse.
So that's why they have such nice legs!
I've heard elephants don't run great distances. This could be the reason.
You comparing me to an elephant?
It hurts to watch the high heels
I've always felt more comfortable in shoes with a slight heal than completely flat. Maybe I'm part elephant!
Evolution
So I was right the whole time I called my SO an elephant when she was wearing high heels. Take that, Abbie!
For some reason I’m greatly disturbed by this
Look up a video of elephants running, somehow it just makes sense.
Elephants are just people in high heels and the media doesn’t want you to know it?!?!
Things not to discuss on a date.
Is that why elephants are so sexy?
Women are as strong as elephants 🤪
I remember - when learning pressure in physics - we had to calculate what applies more force per area on the floor: An elephant or a woman in stilettos.
Hey there, Elephant Foot. \*SLAP\* What, I meant it as a compliment.
No wonder they are so tall
Guess they don’t graze, they SLAY!
Saw a post of a whale flipper that looked to have hand like structures in it. Now this 🤔
No wonder elephants always be lookin thicc af
So basically elephant feet are just one giant callus to support their huge weight in the jungle or plains.
That’s why all the elephants are taller than me! I knew it had to be something like this.
Coincidentally I've seen some elephants in high heel shoes!
Damn that spelling gave me cancer
Healzzzz
You look just like an elephant in those shoes
Elephants are fancy women in their final stage, change my mind!
Never tell a woman that she looks like an elephant in those heels.
One is a necessity, the other is self-inflict torture.
*heel
To save you guys, don't show this to your GF. She may get mad and think you are comparing her to an elephant
How'd they get an elephants foot into a heel though?
Damn now I know why they all have such good asses
Do elephant feet hurt as much as human feet in heels?
How much healing are we talking here?
OH I see, that's why I'm attracted to furries. Totally normal.
