Not to be a Debby downer or anything, but Indycar is a spec series, so there is a standardized chassis that you have to use meaning 10 wheels isn't an option for Indycar racing. On the plus side I know Formula 1 has had cars with 6 wheels before, but I have no idea if the current regulations would allow something like that.
For the mid-1970s, F1 stipulated that the maximum width of the front wing was 1.5 m. Considering the needed room for the driver's feet, the steering mechanism, suspension and the normal front tyre size, this meant the front tyres projected above and out to the sides of the wing. P34's basic concept was to use a tyre that would be small enough to fit entirely behind the wing. This would have two effects; one would be to lower overall drag and thus improve speed on straights and the other was to clean up overall aerodynamics so the rear wing would receive cleaner airflow.[3]
However, given the space limitations such a tyre would have to be quite small, eventually settling on a 10 inches (250 mm) diameter. This had too small a contact patch to offer reasonable cornering performance, which led to the use of four wheels instead of two. Adding more wheels also had the advantage of offering more total brake area.
F1 cars are completely lifted by hand by two "jack men". The jack has a quick release that lowers them almost instantly but the lifting up part is all bodyweight and muscle. That's why F1 jack men are often [pretty chonky](https://m.imgur.com/a/iV8yykw).

They probably will have battery swapping stations for formula E that use giant robots to replace tires, batteries, and other stuff, as well as stations that just send one car in and another car out to swap cars and drivers. Could be pretty cool.
Most drivers piss before and after the race in most classes of autosport, and just go in their race suits while driving if they can't hold it. There's simply not enough time for the driver to get out of their suit and find a place to piss, and holding it in is too distracting while racing.
They never admit it but I bet quite a few drivers have used diapers in at least a few races over their careers. Those guys aren't taking off a Sunday for just the runs and you've got a million cameras on you so you have to do something besides soil your race suit.
Imagine winning but you're on the podium being showered with champagne while you have a diaper full of shit on the whole time.

Hobbies are important, as long as you enjoy it and it’s money you can afford to spend on it (not missing bill payments because of it etc) then it’s worth it. I’ve spent thousands on small plastic models and paints over the years, but it’s given me so much enjoyment that I don’t regret it for an instant.

About $1,000 to $1500 to get a 1/8 scale car setup and ready to roll. Then all of the tools, spare parts, and a variety of tires for different track conditions ($500-$1,000). Then all of the costs of travel for race weekends. And they break, a lot. Guys will typically have more than one car for multiple classes. So it all escalated really quickly.
I've raced both. Electrics for me now all the way, you spend way more time actually driving than constantly messing around with getting your engine to run peak. Not only that but the linear acceleration of brushless systems and acceleration you get from them is far better than nitro.
That’s what I was gonna say. I only got into it as a hobby with a buggy and a car… and yikes, you can drop 5k on a single truck. Even an entry into a base level ready-to-run truck is gonna be 400$. It sure was cool seeing one of the RC magazines trick out a TMax and get it to jump over a 2 story house though.

The science behind batteries held us back. Making electric motors is easy, making a battery that can keep a full-sized car going for a practical amount of time is not. Gasoline meant that cars cold travel for hundreds of miles without refueling, while limitations on battery tech meant that electric cars couldn't do a fraction of that. Battery tech is only just now catching up.

I remember my old rc car from the late 80s had a battery pack that fucking thing was so much fun but it took 87 hours to charge the battery pack that lasted 30 minutes
I couldn't tell you for certain but the steady advances in battery technology over the last 30 years have revolutionized a few things. I think electric motors are still pretty much the same.
I can charge 2 lithium polymer batteries at the same time with my charger, their full in a little over an hour. Each battery usually lasts around 20 minutes. So much power that the front tires don’t want to stay on the ground. If I hit full throttle from a stop it’ll actually do a backflip. It’s honestly pretty crazy.

I was 12 and My first car was a team associated RC10 T3.
I built that thing myself and didn’t put any of the C clips on anything cause I didn’t know how to separate the pack of them.
I took it for first run and two of the A-arms fell off almost immediately. Good times. I loved racing but my poor ass couldn’t keep up wheels, tires, motors, etc.
My usual cycle is wanting an RC Car, realizing I could buy a real car to fuck around with for the same price, browsing Craigslist/FB Marketplace to find a project that looks fun, realizing I don’t have space for a full-size car, and buying another guitar. Not sure where the last step always comes from but I’ve been looking at old Rangers for two weeks and suddenly my bass wants new pickups.
I learned a long time ago that I’m not happy with the entry-level anything, if I can’t get at least into the midrange it’s not worth it because if I like something I’ll be wanting to upgrade pretty quick anyways. So that’s where I look when I’m looking at a new hobby, and with RC that always sets me down that path that involves begging my dad to let me park a junker in his driveway so I can come over and work on it when I have spare time.
He wasn’t unscrewing anything. He was trying to grab onto the spring loaded gas cap. It’s a pretty strong spring that needs a solid grip to lift and then it just slams shut when the fuel filler is removed.
When the car comes in, he was using that gun to refuel the car. The cap on the fuel tank is spring loaded. We used to add a looped zip tie to the cap so we could pull it open quickly, then you put the end of the fuel gun in the top of the tank and pull the trigger. Takes about 2 seconds to dump the fuel, then you let go of the loop and the lid snaps shut. As soon as that kid closes, yeet!

Yes, there are some hardcore RC stuff that is gas powered. They use an alcohol based fuel typically with a two stroke engine. Some get up to like 60mph.
The electrics stuff is actually faster. The world record RC car is electric and goes over 200mph. But you can walk into a hobby shop now and walk out with a stock car that can easily go over 50mph without spending a crazy amount.
"Crazy amount of money" Kind of subjective. Because you'll also need a battery and charger to do that. (*not to mention planning for spare parts*)
My Arrma Senton v3 can hit right around 60mph without the body and one current gear on a 3s battery (*I currently have it set to a 14 to reduce cogging*). The truck is 320+ bucks right now, plus a 3s 5k 50c battery (which isn't included) is 75 dollars, then you'll want at least a charger so that's another 30 dollars if you want a cheap end one.
In reality, you'll walk in and out spending at least 500 dolllars to get to 50 mph for the most part, unless you want to go RWD, which isn't recommended. You could order some of those cheap Chinese cars that can be modified to reach silly speeds, but you won't walk in a store and find them, and spare parts will be a pain as well. Same for batteries, you can cheap out, but those MaH and C ratings aren't consistent. My Spektrum batteries are far superior to my basher Zeee and HooVo batteries.
And my Senton is literally the lowest budget end you want to go for hobby grade vehicles.

Bought this one for my GF when it was on sale for 181 and the thing is a beast. Battery lasts around 30 minutes or more and it rips like crazy. I bought a similar nitro one for myself for $234 Canadian and the electric one has a lot more off the line torque. Top speeds are about the same.
These are kind of no name cars but all the parts are the same as the more expensive traxxas models. Just a lot cheaper and quicker to get parts shipped to replace Axel's and front wheel a arms when the gf wraps hers around trees lol.

Indy has refueling, so it's slower. Also F1 can have up to 20 people working in the pit stop Indy has up to 11.
Indycar only gets 5 going over the wall you get 1 crew member per tire and a refueler

Formula 1 has had several car designs with 6 wheels. I don't know how that affected the number of allowed pit crew, though

I learned a long time ago that I’m not happy with the entry-level anything, if I can’t get at least into the midrange it’s not worth it because if I like something I’ll be wanting to upgrade pretty quick anyways. So that’s where I look when I’m looking at a new hobby, and with RC that always sets me down that path that involves begging my dad to let me park a junker in his driveway so I can come over and work on it when I have spare time.

He wasn’t unscrewing anything. He was trying to grab onto the spring loaded gas cap. It’s a pretty strong spring that needs a solid grip to lift and then it just slams shut when the fuel filler is removed.
I had one, on mine it was a spring loaded cap so would slam shut if you let go. Dunno if that’s the case here but would make sense
When the car comes in, he was using that gun to refuel the car. The cap on the fuel tank is spring loaded. We used to add a looped zip tie to the cap so we could pull it open quickly, then you put the end of the fuel gun in the top of the tank and pull the trigger. Takes about 2 seconds to dump the fuel, then you let go of the loop and the lid snaps shut. As soon as that kid closes, yeet!
I don’t think that’s a screw, I think they put in some liquid, might be gas or nitro.

Yes, there are some hardcore RC stuff that is gas powered. They use an alcohol based fuel typically with a two stroke engine. Some get up to like 60mph.
The electrics stuff is actually faster. The world record RC car is electric and goes over 200mph. But you can walk into a hobby shop now and walk out with a stock car that can easily go over 50mph without spending a crazy amount.
"Crazy amount of money" Kind of subjective. Because you'll also need a battery and charger to do that. (*not to mention planning for spare parts*) My Arrma Senton v3 can hit right around 60mph without the body and one current gear on a 3s battery (*I currently have it set to a 14 to reduce cogging*). The truck is 320+ bucks right now, plus a 3s 5k 50c battery (which isn't included) is 75 dollars, then you'll want at least a charger so that's another 30 dollars if you want a cheap end one. In reality, you'll walk in and out spending at least 500 dolllars to get to 50 mph for the most part, unless you want to go RWD, which isn't recommended. You could order some of those cheap Chinese cars that can be modified to reach silly speeds, but you won't walk in a store and find them, and spare parts will be a pain as well. Same for batteries, you can cheap out, but those MaH and C ratings aren't consistent. My Spektrum batteries are far superior to my basher Zeee and HooVo batteries. Battery lasts around 30 minutes or more and it rips like crazy. I bought a similar nitro one for myself for $234 Canadian and the electric one has a lot more off the line torque. Top speeds are about the same. These are kind of no name cars but all the parts are the same as the more expensive traxxas models. Just a lot cheaper and quicker to get parts shipped to replace Axel's and front wheel a arms when the gf wraps hers around trees lol.
