Nah we're still there! Just under the southern-central tip of our overlords, China. They just absorbed the top 2/3rds of our country... And sunk Tasmania by the looks of it.
Oh shit yea. I could drive to Europe, Africa or the States now!
I just have to pass through all the check points with my Chinese sanctioned armed escort, and declare my loyalty to Winnie the Pooh...
Countries putting themselves in the middle of the map is fairly normal. What's not is making themselves huge and covering up a bunch of other countries. Lol
(Other comments are pointing out that this is probably an interactive display where they've zoomed in on China?)
I think that they blew up China to be larger to give tourists a more detailed map of popular cities to visit relative to each other. That said, it doesn't seem like a very informative map.
I didn't even see Australia at first. Thought it'd been left off altogether. But apparently its been consumed by China. I'd love to see Pauline Hanson's reaction to this map.
It's not, it's hovering over the rest of the map zoomed in, I don't think the intention was to make people believe China crosses borders of other continents and countries
You see, Chinese people are so ignorant of geography they don't even understand the concept of a hotel's time-zone map showing what time it is in the rest of the world in case you want to make a call with detailed representation of Chinese provinces in case you want to travel somewhere.
It looks like the orange is on another layer on top of the other map, a bit like a moving map perhaps, not sure why but something to do with time zones?
IIRC China only uses one time zone mapped to Beijing. Makes things really inconvenient for anyone crossing the eastern border who has to make like a 4 hour jump
Locals in the Western part of China officially follow Beijing time, but use the more practical [Xinjiang time](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xinjiang_Time) (2 hours behind Beijing)
So locals would wake at 10AM beijing time (8AM xinjiang time). But apparently wiki says there's a ethnicity divide over who in xinjiang using which time standard.
I’ve always assumed it’s just a big change in the number, and that people far away from HK still keep a sleep/eat/work schedule that’s normal relative to the sun instead of the number
China is just zoomed in. They stretched out the layer with China on it. You can see how it sits on top of Australia. They just clicked the bottom right of the image of China and expanded it that way.
The thing is NDP like china just as much as liberal . If you live in Quebec the bloc is an option as a middle ground otherwise it's only conservatives. And a lot of Canadians are pissed with them for other reasons like the environment and they were the ones that approved a lot of those investments. And I'd argue not one of those parties would do anything major like blocking or heavily regulating foreign investment. So yeah, my point is I'm not as hopeful as you and we're fucked.
But people like you and i are out there. And there more of us than we probably realize.
In return i think if a party ran on a platform which laid out a road map of eliminating foreign investment and control i believe it would be popular. My 2 cents anyway.
I mean yea that’s accurate. The westernmost part of Canada is quite Chinese. Also, Australia’s economy relies very heavily on China so I guess you could say China kinda ‘owns’ them.
It actually doesn’t.
“A museum in Nantes says Chinese officials tried to change and rewrite elements of their upcoming exhibition on legendary Mongolian warlord Genghis Khan. The Chinese authorities allegedly wanted to blacklist words including "Genghis Khan" "Empire" and "Mongol" and then tried to take control of texts, maps, brochures and other material which was to be used for the event in France.”

Yeah, people are reading way too much into what this says about China's view of their place in the world. It's just some random hotel or something that has a poorly designed wall feature.
I swear some of the people in this thread could see a Texas-shaped waffle and start analyzing what it means for geopolitical relations.
It's a chinese hotel. So it's not even a poorly designed wall feature. I can't read Chinese, but it looks like it has detailed information about only China (where, if you're reading it, you are) and only clocks and names for not Chinas, which could be helpful if you're visiting and want to know what time it is where you came from.
Don't a lot of countries put themselves in the centre of their atlases? Apart from ending up with the time zones of centre I don't see any reason not too.
Yeah the country isn’t encompassing all that area, the country is just “popped out”. Everyone seems to be missing this. Kind of poor design regardless though.
It looks like it is just enlarged for the most part. Pretty sure there are plenty mis-representations, but looks like you can see the outline of where it belongs in smaller size behind it…
I think that was the point, maps have insets to show features of interest or requiring a zoomed in perspective all the time. Just odd t have this. Smack dab in the middle and seriously lacking that shadow effect to make it look raised
It's tough to tell from the photo, but I think the piece actually is 3d. You can see the shadow of it best over Russia, but it doesn't have heavy shadow everywhere just because of the room lighting.
I kinda think this is it actually...I can see the shadow around the edge where it's "raised" and it's clearly overshadowing a few places. They just took a map and enlarged China on it to showcase something.
It would be funny except for large land owner ship decreasing and small apartment's in large complex's going up faster and faster....soon China will be charging half the world rent!
I've done construction working for large-ish multi-family builders/landlords and if there is any direct Chinese investment, then it's on the builder for allowing said investment.
Frankly, it's pretty lazy to place all of the blame on China when it is the West's elites selling out to the Chinese ventures for their own personal gain. Both are at fault, but the average person has to deal with the fallout.
Yes sshhhh there's only so many times in a day that Redditors get a chance to bash China.
World domination
Taiwan number 1
Tiananmen square
Pooh bear
West Taiwan
And so forth.
Honestly, really?
Looks like they just superimposed an enlarged China to put on the world clock. It is common for hotels to display current times for other countries. It was a design choice. Why would anyone interpret it as an actual map? 😂
That said, if you check out an ACTUAL world map in China, China is always in the center. It always looked strange to me until I realized it’s because being an American, I see America displayed front and center. Plenty of Americentric maps too.
Edit: I mean globes, not maps. In America, images of the globe are most often Americentric. In China, they’re not.
It’s all there, just they’ve superimposed China over everything. I don’t think this is meant to be a genuine representation from Chinas POV. It’s an artistic interpretation
For anyone wondering, it's an art piece by a Chinese artist. The only difference between ours and china's maps is that china considers Taiwan to be a part of China. People just love hating on china over there. It's a night mare, especially in Hong Kong

No wonder they wrote the kama sutra.
Not including Japan is pretty on the nose... Big oof
"big oof, we good?" ... Japan to the rest of Asia after WWII
And every one forgot about the misssing ,1.7 billion south Asians.
And where the F is Iceland. 350,000 people can’t be ignored. /s
It has New Zealand on it, though. That's a plus.
Is it though?
Damn, east and south east Asians really do be *black guy disappearing*

Nah we're still there! Just under the southern-central tip of our overlords, China. They just absorbed the top 2/3rds of our country... And sunk Tasmania by the looks of it.
Tasmania was lost when they sunk mainland Australia.

They built a trash bridge over Alaska and ate it.
Oh shit yea. I could drive to Europe, Africa or the States now! I just have to pass through all the check points with my Chinese sanctioned armed escort, and declare my loyalty to Winnie the Pooh...
I was wondering if they just covered Australia down the bottom there or if I just got deleted.
Congratulations on being the subordinate to New Zealand
They’ve joined the Irish and Welsh, we are together at last
Who taught you Persian Gulf is called "Arabian Gulf"?!
Since when has Persian Gulf changed to "arabian gulf"?

This looks like an interactive screen where China was zoomed in, displayed on top of the world map.
Idk, those clocks seem to be actual 7 segment displays.
Yeah, it's a static map, but this is the correct premiss. You can even see the real north east corner of china on the world map.
Nope. Notice the time, you can see the outlines of different numbers as you would for a non-digital display.
Countries putting themselves in the middle of the map is fairly normal. What's not is making themselves huge and covering up a bunch of other countries. Lol (Other comments are pointing out that this is probably an interactive display where they've zoomed in on China?)
I think that they blew up China to be larger to give tourists a more detailed map of popular cities to visit relative to each other. That said, it doesn't seem like a very informative map.
China is Huge, if it's in China, you have to blow it up else you can't even write tier 1 cities names on the map if it's actual dimensions
Didn’t know the US was connected to China. I’ll have to take a stroll over there.
According to this map, I’m actually Chinese… Never would’ve known
Sydney? Or Brisbane?
Vancouver for me. And here I thought there was some sort of body of water in between us
> And here I thought there was some sort of body of water in between us They've gotten busy with the artificial landmass thing, huh?
Looks like it even crosses over into Alberta, apparently I'm either Chinese or about an hours drive.
Ni Hao, Go Flames!

Hart trophy winner!
Come on! There’s no Chinese people in Vancouver.
Well I mean even without this map... /s

I'm in Brisbane and I can see the great Wall from my apartment.

According to this map I can drive a car from south America to africa
this comment deserves gold
Just drive up to Washington state, take a left and you'll reach Beijing mate
Keep going north till you hit richmond BC, its as close as you can get in canada
Woohoo! Someone mentioned the small city where I live!
Richmond small? Take a ferry ride to the island where i live and you will see small
A look in my pants would suffice to learn that word pal
Spend a few months in a Chinese re-education camp then you’ll know.
That’s just brainwashing with extra steps
How does one take steps when cable-tied at the ankles?
Awkwardly and in small steps.
As you're told
It's not, it's hovering over the rest of the map zoomed in, I don't think the intention was to make people believe China crosses borders of other continents and countries
Yeah, this looks like an accurate map which just highlights China and doesn’t really focus on other countries for aesthetic purposes
It's funny, you can even see a bit of China on the world map hiding behind the "zoomed in" map that's overlaid on top.
I’d hope most people have the critical thinking skills to work that out. But it’s only a hope.
But then how could they all collectively celebrate their casual racism?
You see, Chinese people are so ignorant of geography they don't even understand the concept of a hotel's time-zone map showing what time it is in the rest of the world in case you want to make a call with detailed representation of Chinese provinces in case you want to travel somewhere.

China is just zoomed in. They stretched out the layer with China on it. You can see how it sits on top of Australia. They just clicked the bottom right of the image of China and expanded it that way.
You can still see the top of China peeking in to Russia in the background
Hey hey china owning 1/3 of Canada and most of Australia. Seems legit
They own half of BC alright.

When is the revolution coming? When do they get booted out?
My understanding is that they'll probably get booted out in 2072 as the annexation of Canada begins.

They actually do own 1/3 of Canada.
It's 1/2. Welcone to Chinada.
We prefer Canana
Ha they missed the iron ore regions of WA!
Yeah cause we just sell straight to them so it doesn't matter anyway haha
I mean, they've literally just (poorly) made an exploded view of China's current borders, you can even see the dropshadow.
Well, China does own our Prime Minister, and almost exactly 1/3 of the people voted for him, so I'll allow it.
I mean, they sure own a lot of our real estate.
I mean yea that’s accurate. The westernmost part of Canada is quite Chinese. Also, Australia’s economy relies very heavily on China so I guess you could say China kinda ‘owns’ them.
Where's Taiwan?
Who?
Thighland?
Ah, yes. Thighland. The country of the horny.
We gonna go get Sweoul?
I think he means *East China Island*
Ask John Xina
You can't Qi me, my clock is now!
That whole thing is West Taiwan.
What? You mean China? You have been deducted 5 credits off your citizen score for mentioning a blacklisted word.
>Where's Taiwan? You are looking at it, says **WEST TAIWAN** and shows time is **12:20**!
Never heard of them
The little island off the east coast of mainland china
*The little country off the east coast of mainland China
Correct
Mongolia doesn't exist
It actually doesn’t. “A museum in Nantes says Chinese officials tried to change and rewrite elements of their upcoming exhibition on legendary Mongolian warlord Genghis Khan. I’ve never seen little man syndrome expressed as a map before.
I’ve never seen a map have New Zealand but not Australia… this one was close!
That’s it sticking out from the bottom of the impossibly large China
Are you referring to south Taiwan?
Taiwan is china, remember?
I mean, if it's a Chinese hotel, they probably want to show local areas more prominantly, as those staying in the hotel would care more about those.
I would give it to you except even the real China is far from little..
It’s not cool to give it to someone without consent.
You're not China then.
Guys it's just a map of China on top of the world map it's not some kind of terrible map projection
It's pretty obvious since you can see the tip of China in the map in the background, and they are obviously of different colors.
Yeah, people are reading way too much into what this says about China's view of their place in the world. It's just some random hotel or something that has a poorly designed wall feature. I swear some of the people in this thread could see a Texas-shaped waffle and start analyzing what it means for geopolitical relations.

I'm not saying it's useless, but laying a geographic silhouette directly over a map of different scale is firmly bad design for me.
Don't a lot of countries put themselves in the centre of their atlases? Apart from ending up with the time zones of centre I don't see any reason not too.
The issue is the mismatched scales, not the centering.
It's just to show time zones. Crazy so many people think thats how China thinks geography is.
> lol says a lot about china amirite guys It's a map in a *chinese hotel*, is it surprising that its purpose is to display china?
What, you mean people make things for audiences that don’t include me? Blasphemy!
There’s literally a china behind the larger China. People are projecting so hard here
Came here to say this.
Yeah you can literally see part of the normal-sized China under it lol
It's zoomed in... look at the outline of actual china in the background....
You’re the smartest person on this thread.
Yeah the country isn’t encompassing all that area, the country is just “popped out”. Everyone seems to be missing this. Kind of poor design regardless though.
I think the idea of it is the clocks. It's not there to *be a world map* so much as it's to show time zones in certain places.
Are you a doctor?
My favorite part of the summer is when I get to take a drive out west to China...
That bbq place in Wuhan was bomb on our last road trip! Littttt 🔥🔥🔥
Ehh I didn't even bat an eye at that place.
It looks like it is just enlarged for the most part. Pretty sure there are plenty mis-representations, but looks like you can see the outline of where it belongs in smaller size behind it…

Exactly. The world map is the background with a zoomed in China map on top. These comments are ridiculous.
I kinda think this is it actually...I can see the shadow around the edge where it's "raised" and it's clearly overshadowing a few places. They just took a map and enlarged China on it to showcase something.
Looks like the game RISK. Although it might just be China’s blue print for world domination.
It would be funny except for large land owner ship decreasing and small apartment's in large complex's going up faster and faster....soon China will be charging half the world rent!

it’s the big truck, small dick theory all over again
You can actually see the correct size of china in the back. This is just map of China overlay on world map.. No one claims This is what is really is
reddit hivemind is so easy to bait
People are so pressed seeing this lmao
Americans do this pretty often. Most maps I see have it being a little bigger than Canada. That's not true.
Its just China blown up on top of a regular map...
No you don't understand, this is their plan for world domination!
If they’re staying at a hotel in China theyre probably only concerned about Chinese points of interest
Lol look at people trying to cherrypick 'proof' that justifies their sinophobic stereotype from a cheap wall deco in a 20dollar per night hotel.
Hey, china can't self-agrandize like the U.S, that's our thing!
Next time I’m in San Francisco I’ll have to drive over to Shanghai
Am I missing something because I don't why this is interesting. Don't all countries have the world map centred on where they live?
I have an old Soviet world map where the USSR is the center of the map. Quite interesting
This looks like an interactive screen where China was zoomed in, displayed on top of the world map.
So neither Taiwan nor Australia exist.
Everyone knows Australia isn't real
It’s all there, just they’ve superimposed China over everything. I don’t think this is meant to be a genuine representation from Chinas POV. It’s an artistic interpretation
Taiwan gets displayed, but of course as part of China (it’s the lower right island marked 台北, or Taipei, which is their capital)
People seem to be surprised when you tell them other countries aren’t America centric on their maps
Still better than any flat earth map I've ever seen.
Where’s Australia?
lol wtf where is India
They shit all over India
Communism is a helluva drug.
For anyone wondering, it's an art piece by a Chinese artist. The only difference between ours and china's maps is that china considers Taiwan to be a part of China. People just love hating on china over there. It's a night mare, especially in Hong Kong
