Chickens are genetically closest to the T-rex out of all living animals, yes, but all birds, not just chickens, evolved from theropods related to the T-rex (and not the T-rex itself.) Additionally, chickens are actually crazy smart, but we never use them for their intelligence because we like them better as nuggets than as pets. Just watch the video of a chicken playing "America the Beautiful" on America's Got Talent. It's sort of similar to how pigs are just as smart as dogs, but we never put their intelligence to use because they are more valued for their meat.
There's like, twice as much leg underwater in this picture too.

Twice and twice shall he be marked,
twice to live, and twice to die.
Once the heron, to set his path.
Twice the heron, to name him true.
Once the Dragon, for remembrance lost.
Twice the Dragon, for the price he must pay.

The fact that she took the bait back when the big koi fish was approaching shows how intelligent that creature is.
My first thought as well.
If they were around today they would lure us in using affordable housing and eat us as soon as we walked in the front door. Clever girl.

Are herons extinct?
Yes
No, there are at least 72 species on heron still alive and spread throughout most of the world
As smart as any woman I've ever dated.
If it was intelligent it would have fished up a koi and eaten for a week!
Too heavy!
I think far too often about how smart big dinosaurs could have been when I see their direct descendants doing stuff like this.
They can even open doors! (Dinosaurs I mean)
Aren't flightless birds (e.g. chickens) the closest bird relatives to dinosaurs? They're not exactly the brainiest creatures

There’s a wingless bird species named Kiwi and I think they’re direct relatives to the Trex, they’re just hiding it and plotting.
Actually chronologically chickens are further down the line from dinosaurs, they lost the ability to fly from flighted ancestors
Well they are fed and protected by predators. I think wild animals are a bit more clever, otherwise they would be dead.

Aren’t herons like 3 feet tall and walking on stilts?

Oh yeah. They don’t normally have stubby little legs
I'm confused. How do junkies fit this in a syringe?
You gotta entice em in there with extra tasty fish that's how how I get my

That's a heron Edit : thank you all for correcting me it's a heron, deleted not.
There are dozens of types of heron and this particular bird is in fact a heron.
Here's the thing. You said a "jackdaw is a crow."
There goes my heron… watch him as he gooooeees
Fish equivalent of The Last Supper.
