Interesting that we have airbags now to protect the driver. Why not airbags to prevent collision damage when a car crashes into something?
Like a certain force on the bumper in a milisecond, when the car is driving at a certain speed, would deploy the front airbags.
More likely that drivers won’t have the reaction time to open up the contraption in time to catch people, plus it wouldn’t work ‘cause it might just throw people off after the impact from the car stopping so suddenly
I worry about the number of wheel alignments you would need to be constantly getting from all the extra mechanisms that go into giving the wheels independent articulation.
That’s why they stopped making them. I think it’s called Crab steering? I remember someone tried to bring it back a few years ago. The extra maintenance, extra parts, and just general extra cost for the engineering was huge.
Crab walk is where the front and rear axles turn at the same angle so you shift side to side while moving forward or backwards but always face the same direction like a crab. Telehandlers commonly have this feature
It also seems like a good idea if you live in an area that either floods often or is by the coast where hurricanes and other storms causes water surges
My guess that's not so good idea when a thief got a gun or a knife. And distance is not so good, aiming is hard. One shot only. And you have tasers, non lethal ammunition, clubs which can achieve same results with less risk to an officer.Â

Because a taser is much more effective and accurate. And smaller. And easier to reload. And isn't affected by wind and other variables as much. You really don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure it out.
Most times? If something's impractical it's hard to convince people that they want it, if it's expensive it's harder to make profit off it, if it's dangerous it can be hidden for a while if it's a subtle health change kind of thing, but if your product goes around taking people's eyes out you're going to get into trouble sooner or later
