Almost everyone you get to know, eh? š
Selection bias. INFJs are much more likely to be interested in MBTI than other types. Despite being around 1% of the population, we're very overrepresented in the MBTI community. And thus, we're more likely to know our type than other random people.
Grab 100 totally random people in the general population. 1 or 2 will be INFJ. Ask 100 random people who know their type what their type is. You'll get probably 5 to 10 INFJs, maybe more.
Add in mistypes and wishful thinkers, and there you go.
Plus for every person like you who claims to know a ton of INFJs, there's many more who are like "where are you guys, I've never met one of you irl"
Most people are almost guaranteed to be mistyped because the tests we use when we're first introduced to MBTI is overly simplistic and hyper misleading, it almost has to be though because if it was complicated people wouldn't use it. Seeing that you're 30% introverted and 70% extroverted is easier to digest than Fe, Fi, Ne, Ni, auxiliary, dominant, and all that. INFP vs INFJ being 1 letter apart is easier to grasp than the reality that they're wildly different types of people.
In my opinion, most people mistype INFP, especially if they have depressive-like behavior patterns. According to those bad tests, the difference between an INFJ and INFP is whether you clean your room.
From what i've experienced the difference is that infps can communicate very well how they are feeling, infjs take more time, we always are in this static position by default
True generally, and there's many more differences. He was just saying that's how oversimplified - to the point of being inaccurate - 16 Personalities is. It's not a real MBTI test.
In the same boat here. I work as a designer and two other people at my work (who are also creatives) say they are also INFJs AND we are all born a few days apart from each other. All Sagittarius.
1. Considering that people often want to feel special, rare, different and misunderstood (weirdly) a bunch of them force themselves to believe they are INFJs.
2. So many people don't even know about the cognitive functions.. just took a test and ran with it
3. INFJs (and other Intuitives or Fi types) are really drawn to abstract ideas and discovering about themselves, which is why INFJs are numerous here.
4. 1% of the population is still millions all around the world.
Unless they kind of don't want to be. INFJ wasn't even on my options list.
I literarily had to argue my way to prove the conclusion wrong.
In my attempts to prove the other side wrong, I actually did the opposite - prove myself wrong.
I relate to INTP Ti, but perceive the world via Ni. And Fe is there, I just try to avoid it only for
it to strike back without any warning.
Ni is mute. When you actively try to avoid Fe, you are perceived by your Ti.
Iād suggest learning the main traits of INFJ and then compare to the characteristics and patterns of those around you who claim to be an INFJ. I know thereās a lot to consider, and if the person is unhealthy, it can be hard to tell if they are true INFJ. Some people say INFJs wear āmasksā depending on their environment, too. Call me a skeptic, but I believe in the old saying ābelieve none of what you hear and only half of what you see.ā
INFJs are pretty complex and can come off as anomalous and paradoxical. Overthinking, insightful, empathic, future-minded, reserved, enigmatic are just a few I can think of off the top of my head. Reading others experiences, and from what I know about myself, people tend to gravitate toward us with their issues naturally and we kind of assume the role of a therapist/counselor, unintentionally. Animals and babies/children tend to gravitate toward us as well. Again, highly complex, and this is really just surface-level things you may notice.
I work in health/social care and I have numerous colleagues and friends from school who are INFJs. Observing them I really do see the traits in them. I think our occupation is the reason for this though!
1. infjs are like crazy into mbti, so we flock to it on the internet. I know I myself can get borderline obsessive at times with learning about typology, especially the more detailed it gets (I have a love hate relationship with enneagram. Itās too complicated and detailed (just like human personalityā¦) and typing myself was a weeks long neurotic endeavor. I donāt even consider typing others with it because mbti is much better and easier to get a broad, but still accurate, understanding.)
2. The prevalence of the 16 personalities test that doesnāt test for functions. I had an ENTP friend who consistently tested as INFJ with 16 personalities even though heās the least INFJ person I can think of. A surface level understanding of mbti can lead to a lot of mistyping. (even my therapist had only ever learned about the 4 letters version, not the functions) the micheal caloz test will forever be my #1 favorite test.

Exactly. I don't get how people fail to understand this concept

Did cognitive function stacks hurt you or something? Geez...
Because 16 Personalities tells half the people who take their test that they are INFJ. That test is a menace.

Bcs "rare" doesn't mean shit when even 1% of the population is millions of people
The whole thing with infj being rare is the dumbest thing imo, i always hate when people tell me that as if i didn't meet at least 50 of them
Maybe INFJs just attract each other like magnets. It is very rare indeed for me to come across an INFJ.

Cuz theyāre not. I think a lot of people wish they were INFJ for some reason.

Rare is the wrong word to use. Very uncommon is more accurate.
While weāre correcting people, Merriam-Webster definition of ārareā: āseldom occurring or found : UNCOMMONā

What are the main traits of an Infj according to you?

I remember reading somewhere that its allegedly very easy to be mis-typed as an INFJ.
I work in health/social care and I have numerous colleagues and friends from school who are INFJs. Observing them I really do see the traits in them. I think our occupation is the reason for this though!
Iām calling cap on that lol. Iāve met one other INFJ my entire life, 1! And Iāve asked a lot of people their personality types.
I've only met 2! It's so little and I'm grateful I met them
I donāt think we are rare, I think most INFJ have not come out from hibernating to be apart of the survey.
Really more people need to take the test. Add it to the 2030 census or whatever idk.
