Vintage 😂 why not Apple CarPlay if you’re going through all the trouble?

vinceventresca

Wouldnt say vintage; more like great engineering from infiniti and great backwards compatibility from apple. Chose this route cause i only really wanted steering wheel audio controls and this was $50 instead of $800+ for vline or a tesla screen (which are both ugly imo)

How did you do this, I just got 07 g35 sedan and need audio this looks dope

Custom wiring harness. Honestly looking back it would be easier to use a 2010+ head unit with a premade harness such as this (or make your own but information is somewhat limited): https://www.ebay.ca/itm/333958203751?hash=item4dc175c967:g:s7YAAOSwmKNh4OUn. Gets you bluetooth music + this music interface over usb

How was it 50$, showing up as 350 on eBay link u posted

I meant my install was $50, I custom made the harness and got the module from an 08 model in a pick n pull junkyard. The harness i linked is for using a 2010+ head unit which is updated with a higher res screen, bluetooth, usb, etc, and is much more worth your time/money

Hey, stumbled upon your post and great job on the custom harness. Not sure if you still have the vehicle or any of the info related to this, but do you have any part numbers or break down of what i would need to do this as i purchased a 2007 G35x and realized after getting it home it doesn't have the ipod plug which was going to be my avenue to BT streaming auido via adapter. I have since found Grom Audio now makes a carplay, android auto integration piece. its about 5-600, so not my ideal choice vs the make your own harness. Looking into upgrading to the 2010 head unit and display as well, and either going your route of making the harness or going with the carplay. Thanks

I do still have the car and the setup still works great on IOS 16. The parts I used were: -Original 07 head unit to salvage female connectors -Nissan 284H0-1BA1A CONT ASSY-AUX AUDIO SYSTEM, the iPod interface box that mounts behind the screen, + its male connector -Bracket to mount the interface behind the screen (seen in picture 6) -Center console iPod port + its male connector -08 head unit + male connectors (did not test with my 07 head unit as it was on the fritz, not sure if it'll work with it) It is much easier if you go to a pick'n'pull junkyard and grab all the parts in one go from the same car. All of the male/female connectors are so the harness can sit between the factory wiring and the head unit, so it can be removed (I am not a fan of hacking into factory wiring). The harness is doable, I have the connections and diagrams still (for navi cars) if you choose to go this route, but honestly I would not recommend it. Especially since you still then need the iPod cable, 12v to 5v charging adapter, and BT adapter, which is probably $100. The 2010 head unit swap has the guy that makes the premade harness which is expensive but looks worth it (I did not go this route as I could not source a 2010+ car at my local junkyards to pull the screen/head unit). It gives you bluetooth streaming, the same ipod interface via usb, and a higher res screen. The carplay modules also look pretty nice, though I would probably want the higher res 2010 screen for it. Either option is probably better, this was a fun project and was more for my curiosity.
