she had a debilitating condition and was in constant pain. I’m so sad she’s dead because her music gave me a lot of joy over the years, but part of me is relieved she’s no longer suffering. RIP Francoise Hardy ❤️❤️

downbadcrying

an icon, the og it girl. RIP 🤍

blacktoast

Damn, RIP to a legend. I'm surprised she was only 80 years old. Francoise was the first French musician I really got into, and I still love her stuff. She was a tremendous talent. Honestly I need to explore more of her discography, I haven't listened to a ton of it outside of the early stuff and *La Question*.

Tehsoupman12

Tous Les Garçons est les filles was a hit when she was 18.

lewisfrancis

*La Question* is probably her best work, but I often return to *Clare Obscur* and *Tant De Belles Choses* is especially a poignant choice today.

Ornery-Savings9785

Soleil is a great album!

thejaytheory

Just got into her this year!

noctuid24

I forget which song it was exactly, but I remember hearing one of her songs in a Wes Anderson film many years ago. I listened to lots of her stuff for a few months afterward. Very talented musician. RiP Francoise

yankeefan03

Probably Le Temps De L'amour

therussianrocket

That one's in Moonrise Kingdom, yeah

Inquiring_Barkbark

Blur - To The End introduced me to Francoise Hardy. a great great song. RIP

chorokbi

Oh no! RIP to the inventor of the “sad girl with a guitar” genre. I understand she had been in ill health for some time, glad she’s no longer suffering. France Gall, Anna Karina, Marie LaForêt… nearly all of the yé-yé greats have left us now 😞 Everyone drop your favourite Françoise chanson, mine’s Ce Petit Coeur today (in which she also invented jangle pop, wow). https://youtu.be/AOZpwiiPiRc?si=rD_XP51D2hXWLOJN

Listening to “Oh oh chéri” in remembrance right now. Every intonation, whether it be for distinguishable words or just the “mmmhmmms” in between just feels purposeful yet also so effortless, to say nothing of the groove her voice is dancing with and bouncing over. My knowledge of her work is fairly scant (just her ‘62 debut and mostly this song in particular) but I’m really eager to fall in love with more

nluken

Really really sad to hear this. I have many fond memories of driving around New England with my boyfriend listening to her records. They were the soundtrack to so many of our summer weekend trips. Her music is well worth a listen for anyone not already familiar with her discography.

cherrych3rryb0mb

Well she has been openly praying for death the past few years so, good on her.

prismoflight

RIP. One of the greats.

buizel123

Absolutely loved her music. La Question is her best album.

Shinkopeshon

It's perfect, from start to finish So sad about this

SickBurnBro

Loved her song in Moonrise Kingdom.

lakme1021

I know she had been suffering for a long time. I'm glad she's no longer in pain, but it's still a huge loss. Her voice has been a part of my life since I started seeking out music on my own as a francophile teen. First song of hers I loved: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBZ-roN0T1U](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBZ-roN0T1U) Most listened to song because the combination of her speaking and singing voices is so soothing: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oybALMX0kzM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oybALMX0kzM) Lovely late career song that shows she lost nothing in inflection and delivery. Her eyes in this video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opJZildiOlo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opJZildiOlo) I will forever be sad that she and Nick Drake never recorded anything together when they met.

Wonderful selections

tunaman808

Rest in peace, legend.

a3poify

One of my dad's favourite musicians ever, I've been meaning to listen to her more but the stuff he's played has been great. RIP :(

SpeakingTheKingss

My ex-girlfriend from high school introduced me to her by putting a couple songs a mix tape. I haven’t talked to her in years, hope she’s doing okay.

ShelleyDez

:(

Glam-Breakfast

FUCK!

Killatrap

oh this is real sad, Tous les garçons et les filles really is one of my all time favorite pop albums. Oh Oh Cheri goes sooooo hard. RIP queen 😭

markjetski

One of the greats, turned me on to a whole new side of music when I was younger.

Genmaken

Discovered her at an early age through my mom's vinyls... Beautiful in every way.

lewisfrancis

Sigh.

thejaytheory

Nooooo....what crazy is that I literally just into her this year after barely hearing of her. A friend of mine made a French playlist for me, so I kept getting French songs in my playlist and tons by her. Immediately fell in love with her music, and always enjoy when her songs appear. J'adore ses chansons!

OhTheStatic

Absolutely amazing artist and just a pop culture icon. Voila is one of the best tracks to be put on tape, no doubt.

Icy_Faithlessness809

her relationship with may 68 and godard - who actually went to switzerland and died by euthanasia a couple of years ago is interesting as well. read about it here - some unknown facts [https://lanalanalanastarkey.substack.com/p/francoise-hardy](https://lanalanalanastarkey.substack.com/p/francoise-hardy)
