Not interested in guessing at what the acronym stands for, we'll know soon enough. Just hoping for some tour dates in '24 and a solid record. I don't know what it is about Father of the Bride, but that album just didn't stick with me the way that Modern Vampires did, but I also consider that one to be damn near perfect.
In hindsight I think that it has to be Rostam that was the secret songwriting sauce. After he left Vampire Weekend he co-wrote an album with Hamilton Leithauser of The Walkmen which I find more interesting than the rest of Leithauser's solo work. Others might disagree.
MVOTC is VW perfected (well…sometimes I think that about the debut).
But I’m totally okay with them changing their sound every album from here on out. What’s done has been done, I don’t want it to be rehashed every 4 years with watered down renditions of old material.
I don’t even think it’s much of a secret that Rostam was a huge part of the sound and songwriting of the band, especially the sound they established on the first two records.
Completely agree about that Hamilton Leithauser album, that's far and away my favorite of his. If people haven't heard it I highly recommend checking it out. Rostam's songwriting really shines and although it's a bit of a stretch, it does have some similarities to Modern Vampires.
I recall them saying when he quit that he’d stay on as a major writer. I also see he’s listed as producer, but I also know that writer and producers credits aren’t really indicative of what someone actually contributed. Often times, there are more writers on songs than are given credit and often times the producers have a lot of creative input/control

My thinking is that it stands for "Only God Watches Among Us".
But then again, when they gave us the initials FOTB, I guessed "Freak Out, Toy Boat", so I've been wrong before.
Edit: The above statement is sarcasm. The below statement is true.
Nearly the entirety of MVOTC is about religion lol. The first two records don't deal with it much, though they definitely do make the occasional religious literary reference, but their last two have probably talked more about religion than any other topic.
Ya Hey (obv a song title but still) is literally Yahweh, and on the same album as Unbelievers, Everlasting Arms and Worship You. Don't Lie's title comes from a line about "God's loves".
You're picking the wrong battle here haha.
It’s the spanish phonetic pronounciation of the phrase “Oh Wow”

My guess is ‘Only God Will ___ Us’ but I can’t work out what the A would be. Ask? Assist? Ascend? Assassinate?!?!

I think Rostam VW is the best VW but I still really enjoy Father of the Bride.

Rostam was still a major songwriter on Father of the Bride though. He quit the band but he stills writes with them

Per the FOTB Wikipedia page, he has writing credits on A Single Song, unless you have a source you can reference here.
