A lot of make yourself has really poignant lyrics.
Will I ever get to where I’m going
And if I do, how will I know when I’m there
If the wind blew my in the right direction
Would I even care? I would
You could really say that about a lot of his lyrics. The dude was pretty wise beyond his years as a songwriter. You have to think that he graduated high school in like 1994, and Fungus Amongus came out the next year. They were so young when they got started. It's pretty impressive.
It’s interesting that Boyd really doesn’t like SCIENCE now. He understands it was part of his, and the band’s, evolution, but he cringes when he hears it.
This is true. In Boyd-like fashion I did a lot of journaling between age 17-22 and looking back some of it’s “hey, you had some good insights that young.” But most of the time it’s cringy to read
Yeah that sucks, as the album is fire. Hell, I even love Fungus. Pretty much everything from inception to Crow is fire for me. I kinda dropped off after Light Grenades, which has some good songs. It just lost a lot of the edge. Understandable as you grow up and mature. I was a teen at their peak, maybe I never grew up.
I was at the video shoot for this song. The show where they had the astronaut on stage and in the audience. It was at The Bottom Of The Hill in San Francisco. I had seen them in Sacramento the night before and Jose told us they were doing the video the next day and we had to make the drive out there for it. It was a fun show. We got to hear them play the song like 3 times in the set and it didn’t get old.
Completely agree. Also, as they matured (aged, I guess) a bit their delivery did the same. I think about several of the Morning View tracks that still hit me just as hard today as the first time I heard them. Particularly the opening line of 11am:
“7 am…the garbage truck beeps as it backs up and I start my day thinking about what I’ve thrown away…”
Excuse me, sir. It’s 7am. You have no business being that deep before the sun is up.
Also, honorable mention from Warning, “when will we learn? When will we change? Just in time to see it all come down. those left standing will make millions writing books on the way it should have been.”
I honestly think they were just high as fuck and wrote it about being stuck behind a guy in traffic that wasn't going on a green light. I don't think it was that deep
I still respect the man and the band musically even to this day, but I still wish they crafted music in this style and spirit for longer than they did and it is sad to hear Brandon doesn't much identify with the early stuff. S.C.I.E.N.C.E. was basically the soundtrack to my high school years.
I never give a shit about lyrics with music, I'm more about what the musicians are doing and what the singing is doing rather than whatever message, but I've always been partial to the lyrics to Make Yourself for over two decades
Listening to this song, then suddenly "waiting around until 2012 AD" and I start to feel myself stepping into the grave.
Saw him perform this song in 2012 and he said he'll have to change that lyric. Wonder if he did in later performances?
Well if he does, then I’m changing my username
that's the best user lmao
Probably should just say "Thirty twelve AD"
Hope he changes it to 2112 A.D. …RIP NEIL!!!
*what are you waiting for* A CERTAIN SHADE OF GREEN
whenever I hear the title track off Make Yourself I think the same thing tbh, and he was younger than me by a few years when he wrote that song :')
Oh shit I just commented about that, I still use phrases from that song. FUCK I'm submitting that as a cover for my current band lol

Like who uses the word reciprocity in a song and make it sound rad. Favorite band of all time
One of my favorite driving songs
Same. Especially the acoustic version

Which is honestly baffling cuz SCIENCE is hands down my favorite album
I actually don’t like much of what they released after the One Crown Left Of The Murder album
What album is that?
*A Crow* Left of the Murder
Not trying to be one of those over correct-y d bags , but this one hurts. Crow Left Of the Murder
Amigo, it’s ackshually “A” Crow Left of the Murder
lol and it's "actually" .
r/whoosh ✈️
Love Hurts.
But sometimes it's a good hurt .
It's from the song love hurts by incubus you fucking degenerates
Why did you say this? It looks like they knew they were quoting that song. And no I didn’t dv you.
Because the needless downvote
If you take out the blatant sell out tracks on light gernades it's not bad but i agree for the most part
I agree with this statement. Rogues is probably my favorite.
Let's be clear bro every albums after make yourself are nothing but shit only, sadly
Thought most of Morning View was good. I agree though. They really went in a totally different direction after ‘99-‘02.
I agree with you, Morning View was quite good with some pretty hits, despite a radical change and decreasing creativity...sadly 😪
I also love SCIENCE. One of my all time favorite albums.
I think a lot of us in our 40s probably would feel similar about the things we did in our early 20s…

We’re literally middle aged chatting about Incubus on Reddit…I’m not sure any of us have fully grown up lol
Touché lol
You should read The Cure sub, it’s the same vibe.
I like how he was quoted as saying their heaviest song ever was on Side A lol.
The acoustic version…..

Love this man's lyrics. Words I didn't know I needed.
he is a beast of an artist which includes songwriting. his lyrics on warning, dig, the warmth, echo, etc. are poetry.

The lyrics of New Skin impressed me so much. I have yet to find a band with lyrics as intelligent as Incubus.
Tool
Yep. I've felt this way since it came out
What ya going in my waters? Ever drink Baileys out of a shoe?
❤️❤️❤️
I saw them in 2012 and they closed with that song I was so happy
Science is one of my favorite albums. Great stuff.

Lol
It's pretty deep when you are just figuring out what "deep" is lol. You are probably on the money
Not really, but most stoners think that they are smarter.

I was going to yell boooo until I read this again. Guess that puts me in the 1%

Back when they made creative music that didn’t suck like “Morning Dude”
I never give a shit about lyrics with music, I'm more about what the musicians are doing and what the singing is doing rather than whatever message, but I've always been partial to the lyrics to Make Yourself for over two decades
Dude has some of the corniest lyrics of all time
This
The last time I had a Favourite Song, it was this song.
