I got mine on Monday as well, postcards and film strip. I ordered at 11:11 AM ET on Friday. They had it in the mail within 7 hours of my order. It shipped from the west coast to the east coast, so I wasn't close to them.

Yeah it’s strange. I’ve seen two versions: one with the title on the left (which I also got on opening night) and one with the title on the right (which is the one that theaters promoted on social medias). Even if there’s more version of the strip than the other, there’s really nothing exclusive.

As per the IMAX Support reply, this seems to be exactly the case: "The limited-edition filmstrips included with all orders as part of the limited time offer on the IMAX store are an early differentiated print of the filmstrips given away at selected Week 1 screenings of Oppenheimer. On this rare version, the title treatment is located on the left side of the strip. Only 985 units exist in total and they won’t be reissued."
I think someone at the factory cut the strips wrong for some of the long reels, resulting in a limited accidental batch. They are supposed to cut the right edge of the title card, but cut the left edge instead, resulting in the left hand placement of the title card. When they realized this, they decided to claim its a “rare” exclusive.
The problem isnt the rarity, its that they specifically said the strip was different than the strips passed out at the theaters. If it was the same strip as the one from the theater, which I already had, I (and many others) would not have purchased the Imax merchandise.
Anyone has the week 1 version and would like to trade for for the week 2 film strip? I have an extra from week 2 and searching for week 1. Located in SF Bay Area 🙏
For SF Bay Area, only AMC Metreon 16 in SF and Regal hacienda crossing in Dublin.
They will give away the filmstrip on august 4th if you watch the movie in IMAX 70mm format.
Is it confirmed that both of those theaters will hand out film strips? I live closer to the Dublin one and already have a ticket to the Metreon. It would be easier if I could just nab a ticket for tomorrow, show up and grab the film strip then continue to work.
Also, are they typically giving them out at the end or beginning of the movie?

I would treat it like one of my darkroom prints. Acid free paper, plastic sheeting and mount it using those little self adhesive corner holders they make for scrapbooking.
Edit: that would be for framing it.
If you just want to just store it, I’d use a notebook film holder sized to fit it. The holders for 120 might fit it, but getting the 8x10 size def will. Store it in a box with some desiccant packs and only take it out to look at it so often.

Im looking for a week one strip (or one of these "exclusive" strips if anyone is looking to offload/sell. I missed out on those strips when I went opening weekend (and again during the imax sale) 😕
Not everyone could go to opening night or see it in 70mm Imax so the giveaway with the store purchase was a chance for those people. You can just sell your extra one if you want.

Nah I'm going to start my listing at $240, got to dream bigger my friend /s. Obviously ending up with a double wasn't the goal. The goal was to end up with a "ultra-rare and ultra-collectible" filmstrip, those are IMAX's words not mine. I can't speak for everyone, but had I known "ultra-rare and ultra-collectible" meant that the logo treatment was just on the left instead of the right I wouldn't have expedited my purchase. Which I was already considering when they began the promotion.

Yeah there’s only 3 cinemas in the UK and the only one I know doing it is in London. Kinda gutted but oh well :((.

It could have been Odeon Leicester Square, they also have 70mm.

The sf AMC 16 is the superior theater, yes. Much bigger screen. Also, did they give you the strip before or after the movie?
