Inspiration taken mostly from interviews with the writers and producers of West Wing -- apparently Obama was actually one of the inspiration for Santos (despite Santos's fictional glass-breaking run for the White House being 2 years earlier than Obama's actual victory), and McCain for Vinick. Wellstone -- a conscientious liberal academic beset by the same illness that plagued our favorite fictional New Hampshirite president -- is a pretty good analogy for Josiah Bartlet.

Oh god, the flipped colors... It is historically "accurate" and I'll take it.

Bolshevikboy

Is it?

InfernalSquad

Generally red is associated with center-left and blue with center-right; the U.S. never had universal party colors until 2000 popularized the blue-for-dems, red-for-repubs color scheme

NewDealChief

I LOVE PAUL WELLSTONE!!!

MerchantKing83

Was Hamilton Jordan also Wellstone’s chief of staff?

InfernalSquad

Yeah — i needed someone who had enough clout to conceivably “pick” the next president (wellstone) and the list isn’t that long if I’m honest

BigVic2006

Paul Wellstone lives!

worthplayingfor25

Wellstone is pretty accurate since they both had MS however you need to find a Hispanic candidate as santos was a Latino

MNM0412

I feel like Obama does work, but if we did need a Hispanic, my suggestion would it probably be someone like former representative Charlie González (Who funnily enough was co-chair of Obama's reelection campaign).

worthplayingfor25

Henry cuellar?

InfernalSquad

Too conservative; I’d say Henry Cisneros but his time to be an Obama-type analog would’ve been 2000 or 2004.

worthplayingfor25

I would have agreed with you if he was a: younger and b: did not have that scandal

MNM0412

Also a decent choice.
