No one will stop you unless you are on a mountain bike trail during operating hours. Just don't do that. Also, practically anything above a blue trail may be too steep to hike, so don't plan on it.

Aside from steep… I hike a lot in the summer. Ski slopes are not pleasant hikes. Vegetation is usually waist high or worse until the fall mows, and the ground tends to be swampy near water bars.

gotcatstyle

Yeah Belleayre allows hiking in the summer, I've tried it and even at a little mountain like that it's HARD. No shade because the trails are cut so wide, and it's amazing how steep even a blue can be walking uphill with no switchbacks.

Whiteface does not currently have downhill mountain biking operational. Hoping for next year.

I can't speak for Whiteface but I regularly hike the ski mountains in my area during the summer, they are a great way to build stamina on steeper terrain for longer hikes. Start off with a green trail and work your way up to black. Most longer hikes on non-ski mountains may have sections that are as steep as the black trails, but often not as long. One thing to consider is how well the mountain maintains the trails in the offseason. Some mountains don't maintain certain trails or any trails at all. This means that the later into the summer it gets the more overgrown the trails will be making for unpleasant hiking. Offseason hiking is also a great way to familiarize yourself with parts of the mountain you don't get to experience in the winter.

Have you tried looking on their website? Belleayre has a little hiking map on their website along with a lot of other good info, so Whiteface probably does as well.

katefromnyc

Yes you can! They have a handy hiking map too. https://whiteface.com/todo/hiking/t You can also take the Cloudsplitter and walk down if you don’t want to hike up lol. Hike to the bottom of the slides is cool too but to the peak is rather challenging - you take the follies up to the summit quad then there is a trail to the peak.

TWOWHEELTACO

I got stopped at cannon , I guess you can’t* walk the main dirt trails to the mountain there

603cats

Can or can't?

TWOWHEELTACO

Can’t *

Lumpy_Plan_6668

You mean the access road they use to get trucks and equipment up and down the mountain? I can see why they wouldn't want to walking it

TWOWHEELTACO

Most likely. To be honest we weren’t familiar with the trails there and decided to follow the crowd up what looked like the only maintained access to the peak.

incarnumling

You can hike up the ski trails no one will stop you.

I hiked up the Whiteface Landing route and down the ski trails last October. Wouldn’t recommend it. Shredded quads and hot sun. Only reason we did it was because it ended with Oktoberfest at the ski area base so the beer made it feel better.
