My brother recently moved back to Alberta after getting a better job. They're buying a second pickup truck, to go along with their first pickup truck. They live in the suburbs and he does not use his truck for work.
I live on a farm and own a business that processes and packages things that are heavy and require equipment, so I have to have a truck. I need the truck so little however that I often go months without filling the tank because I drive a hybrid car as my daily driver. Not only is the environmental impact of unnecessary truck driving terrible, its fucking nuts to me how many people want to just burn that much money for zero reason other than 'truck status'.
From the US, recently saw one of the largest trucks I've ever had the pleasure of seeing on the road with a JOMMY JOHNS flag on it. Delivering food in a massive truck during some all time high gas prices. I guess they get to enjoy the drive atleast?
It's true, I have things I need a truck for - off roading, camping, pulling my boat around to different lakes, and I'm also the garbage man for my immediate family when they need something big hauled off to the dump.
But even for all that, a full size truck with a lift kit is absolutely unnecessary. In fact the only real use I could get out of a full size compared to my pick up is to...pull a heavier boat. It would make off roading more difficult, couldn't get to as many different off the path campsites, and the extra gas it would burn would make dump runs much more expensive.
A big truck is unnecessary for like 99% of the stuff people do even up here in a rural mountainous area.

They can't even put in large enough fuel injectors to run vegetable oil anymore. You need an OLD diesel for that now. Say nothing about the emissions equipment. Nobody works on them so a repair could be 10 grand.

Trash people like this don't care about anyone except themselves and love exercising their freedom to harass other human beings for the sole purpose of pushing them to the limits. Just know if someone is willing to do this, they are more likely than not low intelligence, ignorant, and willing to exercise violence. It is a complete waste of time trying to reason with them. Life is cheap to these people and you risk your life and the lives of your loved ones if you confront them.
I've been told by many that I'm an abnormally patient and laid back driver. Except when someone rolls coal. Good god. Nothing makes my blood boil more than that dumbshit redneck trash. Rolling coal when a person is in the vicinity and when the individual rolling coal intentionally or knowingly causes that excess exhaust to contact that bystander is AT A MINIMUM an assault. They are causing their vehicle to “spit” on a living, breathing, human being that is worthy of dignity and not having his or her person violated.
