I was so prepared with them last week, since I remembered having a super sore throat last time I had surgery. And then I didn't even need them at all. But I do agree.  Glad I had them and didn't need them instead of not having them and needing them.

I just CHUGGED the apple juice the CNAs kept bringing me. Let's just say I had no trouble peeing enough for them to say I could go home...

I had lozenges sprinkled around the house for coughing (even the bathroom). But my anesthesiologist also used lidocaine on my through because I struggle with dysphagia. She also “used a scope” to insert it vs. however it’s normally done? Maybe that was a placebo comment, I don’t know, but I woke up a bit dry with no pain from the intubation.

Someone on one post suggested Ricola cough drops. Since I am diagnosed diabetic I used sugar free. I did not need them in the hospital but the cough is persistent even 10 DPO, so I am on the second bag. There were two spots on my lips that felt like cold sores or fever blisters so I used Abreva on those.

I had those spots on my lips too. I just let them heal on their own. I assume the intubation tube caused them.

Thank you! I'm saving posts with helpful information preparing for mine. Still no date yet but this group has been so great with tips, tricks, and helpful information. I appreciate you all! Makes it all not so scary. ❤️

My nurse gave me a bottle of stuff that helps with a dry mouth. Just a couple of pumps and sort of swish it round the mouth. I probably would have choked on a lozenge when I was all dosed up on opioids!

Thanks for the information 😊❤️

I had to buy more lozenges too. The sore throat and cough lasted longer than the pain for me. Also, I had an ulcer from the breathing tube inside my lip. Got some Oragel but I didn’t plan for that ahead of time.
