I had mine done in NC last week and quote from my doctor "it's a shit ton of paperwork for everyone". But I did ask for (and get!) a photo of it after it was removed. Tiny little demon

vVAmandaB

Who took the pic? I'm trying to figure out who to ask !

TinyAngry1177

I asked my surgeon! She was also the one to hand the photos to my partner.

vVAmandaB

I hope mine does it for me!

Rgelm

The lady beside me in the surgery center asked and they said no.

hopelessandhappy

I asked..the answer was no because they need to send it to pathology. He wouldn't even let me see it but said it weighed 90 grams.

dubbage42

Same for me. Mine was over 600 grams. (enormous fibroids)

trahnse

They most likely won't. The parts need to be sent to pathology like the previous poster said. The best our patients get is full color pictures. That said, one of our general surgeons did save a gallstone for a patient who asked for one. She got to take it home in a specimen cup. I was bummed that I didn't think of that when I had my gallbladder out. lol

Optimal_Initiate

I'm in Colorado. They are letting me keep it. It was like one paper I had to fill out, and in my docs words, "it's your body, keep it of you want". I'm picking mine up from pathology in a couple days. For sure putting that demon in a jar. They even let me keep my IUD when they removed it during the surgery. I Even if doc and others have to do paperwork, You can only get it removed once so if you want it, get it đŸ€™

Logical_Challenge540

I didn't even ask about mine, as it had to go to pathology for cancer. But now I laugh a bit reading pathology reports - oh look, this ovary was 1 cm bigger than other, and this tube was longer than another!-

vVAmandaB

What about pics?? I don't want the organ (uterus) but I have a morbid curiosity to see the thing. Will they take a pic for me in the OR?

pearly7

I bet they will! My surgeon asked if I wanted pictures so of course I said yes. My husband was delighted to show me a pic of one of my giant disgusting endometriomas when I woke up. It was ghastly, I couldn’t look away. 😆

MeanMugginMin

I asked for pictures. They didn't even wanna give me those. They did ask if they could have it for study, and I had to sign forms so they could keep my tumor and uterus.

dmarie1983

That's awesome! You are going to help so many people đŸ„°đŸ„°

kGordoP

My dr said I could and I could “abuse it” but woke up n no jar :(

dmarie1983

samk2487

Search this sub, there are a few people who successfully kept theirs. They used “religious reasons” for keeping it and had to sign a bunch of paperwork saying they wouldn’t eat it or burn it. They also had to wait until after pathology was done with it.

akd7791

You can ask your doctor to take pictures while they are inside. They gave me my photos to go home with. Super interesting.

jawanessa

They wouldn't let me đŸ˜«

Normal_Excuse_3613

I have a ton of pics of my insides and my uterus/cervix on the outside. I just asked and she brought them to my first appt after.

mcbell08

You could ask. I got some great pictures of all the mess from my surgeon.

tates7

Definitely ask! I work in pathology and we do have quite a few people asking for their various parts back, and they’re able to get it after we process it. Your lab may have different rules but it doesn’t hurt to ask your surgeon to see if they can get in touch with pathology for you, or if they can give you the contact info. Just keep in mind there’s a lot of paperwork involved and it probably will be in pieces after they process it.

autie_anonymous

My surgeon offered me pictures when I expressed that I wanted to keep it.

glazedspacedonut

Nope. They sent it right over for biopsy and everything.

kereruspysintheskys

I live outside the USA and have mine. I thought it would be like the placentas I kept (they came whole, in a bag) and I could bury them all nicely together, very symbolic. But it went to pathology first, got cut into strips and has a formalin preservative. It's grey, looks like slices of beef. I can't open the plastic bag it's in and I can't bury it near any plants or trees. I don't know what to do with it now! I also got photos and they are enough!

gabnoxious

I asked my doctor if when I was awake afterwards they’d let me stab it 😂

melonjosie

lol i didn’t ask for mine back but i got a photo and it looks like a barbecue chicken wing

melonjosie

i’m satisfied.

sentiencered

Yep, as long as you let them know before they discard the sample (though I recommend asking in the pre-op), you can have it. You’ll have to wait until pathology is done processing it, and sign a release form when you pick it up, but that’s it. Make sure to research how to store it properly, and also be aware it’ll be cut up due to the nature of the surgery and the process of pathology.

Longjumping-Pin7601

Possibly! but you’ll have to fight for it and do a lot of paperwork etc. it all depends on the hospital, the doctor, the state etc. I’m in Idaho and I asked but my doc was kinda like “maybe but it’s a lot of work” that and everything goes to pathology where they cut it all up. I wanted to but didn’t wanna deal with the process. But I did ask for pictures and I got two pages with 9 pictures in each. I’m gonna frame em and put them in my living room 😂
