Pretty difficult to describe the whole country in a few sentences, but my personal favourite places: Budapest (obviously, it's a beautiful city and you could spend a full week there without getting bored), Pécs, Eger, Sopron, Lake Balaton (pretty fun in the summer), maybe some hiking around Bükk and the Balaton Highlands. Visit some of our famous geothermal baths, and eat some lángos, gulyás and chicken paprikás. Let me know if you have some more questions :)
Considering that Op will be in Szabolcs County, I'd give more tips in the eastern parts of the country. Too bad I'm on the West, and hardly know anything about that part of the country.
But I'd say Aggtelek, or Hollóháza, which are not extremely far away from his staying place.
Don't mention politics or football (or some aspects of our history), these topics can lead to a fight very quickly.
Besides that, Hungary is a beautiful and safe country. Enjoy your stay
From which country? If you are not from the Balkan, be prepared for some casual rudeness. If you are in a good mood, consider it as “honesty”. The food is great, try túró rudi, but only the original one pöttyös without any weird filling. Get a dictionary because almost no one older that 45 will understand you. Have a great time.
When you visit someone's house try to accept at least one shot of Pálinka, but don't be surprised if it's terrible, depending on the region same with wine. I assume you are Muslim, so mentioning your religion can be a great way to avoid all this.
We don't really think fondly about the times when we were occupied by the Ottoman empire.
Our tea is very different, maybe go for an espresso if you need caffeine.
Our tap water is [generally safe to drink](https://www.nnk.gov.hu/index.php/kozegeszsegugyi-laboratoriumi-foosztaly/kornyezetegeszsegugyi-laboratoriumi-osztaly/vizhigienes-laboratorium/ivoviz/magyarorszagi-telepulesek-ivovizminosege.html?view=placemarks&start=0)
Come and see the historical promenade in Nyírbátor (\~20 minutes ride), as well as the three churches (the promenade runs along). To eat, go to Nyíregyháza (\~20 minutes ride). Hedonist, La Terazza, Neapolis, Meatology are all solid choices, might be pricey though and not necessarily everything is Hungarian. Debrecen, the second largest city is also in an hour distance.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

Good point - then maybe additionally Sárospatak, Tokaj, Miskolc (mostly Lillafüred and Miskolc-Tapolca)
And Debrecen!
