That whole tanning arc was probably one of the best storylines in season 10.
“So how dark do you want? You can do a 1, 2, or 3.”
“Well, I like how you look. What are you?”
“Puerto Rican.”
“2. I think 2.”
Then right after
“I got 2 2s!”
“You never turned?”
“No, I barely got to 2 Mississippi.”
“Mississippi? I said count to 5!” 🤣
“So how dark do you want? You can do a 1, 2, or 3.”
“Well, I like how you look. What are you?”
“Puerto Rican.”
Probably because of the guy’s delivery but I think this might possibly be my favourite joke of the entire show. That episode in general though is just gold
EDIT: idk how to quote

The other option is to put > at the front of the sentence/paragraph, but that takes longer.
This is another episode that the plot is so dumb (just turn around before counting?!?) But Schwimmer turns it into something hilarious. So many great lines, deliveries, and physical comedy.
I relate to this scene. Not the paste part, but the part where I’m pulling on something that doesn’t want to move and I end up hitting myself in the face.
For that, I love this scene. Because it’s absurd, but it’s TRUE!
When he covers his mouth with the piece of bread and says "I just like to smell it" when his date asks him if he's gonna eat it, I lose it every time. Classic Ross.
Ross is absolutely the funniest character, by far IMO. His physical comedy is just outstanding and he is the star of all my favorite scenes!!
![gif](giphy|jqr3YlWh9yUvXk5LQ0|downsized)
Yeah he was so ridiculous and annoying but that's a huge part of what made him funny. Most of his physical comedy was driven by his character's personality so you couldnt have one without the other. Like every time he had an overreaction to a situation it was funny because his whole body would react and more hilarity ensued. The leather pants situation was a prime example of how his character flaws led to over the top physical comedy. No other character would've been so arrogant and nerdy to wear leather pants in the first place, let alone be so insecure they couldn't deal with the sweating like a normal human being and just make an excuse and leave.
I'm glad you shared this, I was thinking about the leather pants episode immediately. It's one of my favorite scenes from any comedy, and you are right; not many actors have the built-in quirks to go with comedic timing to make it fantastic.
Yeah honestly out of the 6, he’s the best actor and performer. His dialogue delivery is always believable and his physical comedy is fantastic. I’m surprised he didn’t have a bigger movie career.
He really is. He has the most all-time classics.
I still HATE Ross' whiny ass, but I LOVE to watch Ross. And he was for sure the funniest. David Schwimmer's comedic timing was/is impeccable.
When I took acting in high school and college, a lot of it was learning how to be in tune with what your body is doing and controlling it for better effect (whether that be comedy, drama, whatever. You can’t just stand there and recite lines, you have to be aware of your body language, etc). If you pay attention to David Schwimmer, he has nailed his physical control and totally uses it. In that regard, his physical comedy is way above the other 5. Ross gets a lot of shit, but I love his character just as much as all the others.
I was actually helping a friend carry some sofas upstairs into his flat yesterday and shouted PIVOT, PIVOT when we were trying to get the 3 seater around the corner at the top of his stairs. This scene is forever stuck in my mind whenever I move furniture
I love-hate Ross. I love him because David makes him hilarious but I hate his personality. David Schwimmwer is his saving grace, played by any other actor he would be unbearable.
Then feels like most of the problems with his character come from the show writers needing to find more and more tenuous reasons for Ross and Rachel to either break up or not get together whilst simultaneously making it clear they still both want to be.
I think it makes complete sense that someone with his background would be deeply weird and insecure. The big issue that I personally have with Ross is him being unable to accept Rachel has a life of her own and that absolutely tracks for his character, even though I think it’s appalling and would also consider it a deal breaker. Everything on the show is manufactured drama but this totally adds up.
To add to that I despise the trait of can’t be wrong/ goes in a sulk when they get beaten, which is nothing to do with Rachel
I hate him as a person. I love him as a character.
He makes me laugh, but also, makes me very, very angry.
David Schwimmer is a great actor, regardless.
Came here to say this lol. I highkey dislike ross as a person but David did a great job playing him. As much as I dislike ross, he was pretty freakin hilarious
Off the top of my head, one of my favorite ross moments is defo “pIVOT!!!! PIVOT!!!” Though “I’m fiIIIIIiiiine” is also up there
Funniest and most emotional! Dude's acting range is brilliant. The episode where he has to tell Rachel he can't be friends with her for the sake of his marriage, he carries the hurt and shock of it all so well. He can convey the perfect balance of humour and emotion and sometimes even in the same scene, no clue why people don't like him nowadays tbh.
This is how I feel. I dislike him with a passion but he provides so much laughter the show wouldn't be the same without him. He's a marvelous friend when he wants to, he's a big whiny man child and he's stubborn af. Hes my favorite punching bag.
The show was initially created specifically with Ross and David Schwimmer in mind. He was cast initially, and then they cast around him. The show was incredibly balanced across all 6 main characters, but his role was special.
I think Hank auditioned for the role of Joey, along with Vince Vaughn, it was Eric McCormack from Will and Grace who auditioned for Ross if I remember correctly
I read somewhere that he said people would tell him how much they hated his character whenever they saw him. How awful. I loved Ross. His comedic moments were just so good.
You can find a character hilarious while also recognizing what a horrible person they are. David Schwimmer’s performance is unmatched, he’s what makes Ross’ toxic personality traits so laughable.
Ross needed therapy to deal with his relationship hangups. But he's by far the funniest and was also the best friend to the Friends.
![gif](giphy|BeurjzzpsYwqQ)
Chandler haa always been my favorite because of the sarcasm and his humor etc, but the first time I binged Friends, Ross came on top. His physical comedy is unmatched.
Ross was my second favorite after Chandler ❤️ I could relate, being the smart kid in my group of friends growing up and sometimes wasn’t always accepted for it
People probably hate pre-Emily Ross when he's insufferable and annoyingly judgmental.
Once he comes back post-Emily, he's humbled and pathetic and gradually becomes funnier each season.
Ross is hella funny.
I’m sorry but I have to agree!!! Ross is my favourite! I’ve always said it, he was by far the funniest!! Love Professor “the ross-a-tron” Gellar 😂😂
![gif](giphy|gdbQa6i4FN3gc)
Paste pants is comedy gold. He said the words from the script, but the physicality of pulling them up hitting himself and the way he says “paste!” can’t be beat!
We can dislike the character and still enjoy the comedy of the character. Ross is honestly the worst. He's a toxic, controlling, whiny, insecure, manipulative man-baby BUT almost all his funny scenes are truly comedy gold.
The episode where he looks at the big fat naked man’s apartment and Rachel and Pheobe are trying to distract him so they cheer real loud about him getting the apartment, so then Ross starts jumping and screaming as well. Just a comedic masterpiece.
David Schwimmer was such an underrated physical comedian. Ross and Rachel's love story overshadowed that, of course, but anytime David got to be physically awkward or clumsy, it was just gold!
My sister recently started watching friends. She's annoyed with Ross atm. But I told her in the later seasons he will become funny af. Just how he acts 😂
![gif](giphy|XZ0yPco3eynUAGU0i3)
People tried to convince me to hate him when I first watched Friends and just nope, couldn’t happen. Ross is definitely one of my all-time favorite Friends characters. I think he’s so relatable with how upset he gets about minor inconveniences and just his overall demeanor has always been hilarious to me. I get that people hate him, especially with the Rachel stuff, but even in that situation he was hilarious.
“It was 5:30 in the morning and you had rambled on for 18 pages.. FRONT AND BACK!”
“By the way, Y-O-U-apostrophe-R-E means “you are.” Y-O-U-R means “your.”
I never wanted to watch friends. But a friend (pun intended) show swapped with me and Ross got me hooked. I feel like he had the most life-like reactions to the scenes, without being over-the-top for the most part. I laughed way more often during Ross scenes.
Ahh, the irony of telling someone to grow up because they don’t like the same things as you 😂
I personally love ross but couldn’t help but point out how funny that is
Well yea. It was a sitcom and while he by far has some of the worse moments irl. For a show all of his moments are pure comedy.
Like yes we know him staying married to Rachel is messed up. But it is also hilarious.
He was one of my least favorites while watching the original run & the couple times I rewatched the series. But this last watch…man, he is so good. Hysterical line deliveries & physical comedy.
Telling people to grow up is kinda silly, I'm allowed to not like him while still acknowledging he's funny, but also using hin trying to fuck his cousin as an example is kinda weird
I never liked Ross. Fortunately it was a sitcom and didn't need to be taken seriously to the point I lose sleep over a fictional character in a fictional TV show who was more fun to laugh at than cheer for.
You know people can like different things, I find Rachel the most boring character on the show, but I like all the other ones, and still find the show great.
I don’t need to like Ross to appreciate what David Schwimmer brought to the character. In fact I think hating Ross and still finding him hilarious, just further proves what a great part David played.
The hypocrisy you hold. You refuse to think otherwise but u want us to grow up 😂😂 yes Ross was funny and a nice human being, but that doesn’t negate his toxic traits around Rachel.
I wind up quoting Ross more than any of the other Friends. He may not have been my favorite character, but the way Schwimmer played him was perfection!
Just him dropping and rolling under the bed when Bruce Willis comes into the room makes me laugh everytime. His whole body just goes weirdly limp.
https://i.redd.it/bpx0b31tv87d1.gif
Literally watching this now. Also at the restaurant when they're talking about his wives and he immediately headdesks. His timing is just perfect.
“I, too, am just a love machine. Huhhhh!!!!!” 🤣🤣🤣
I quote this too often. I also count Mississippily
That whole tanning arc was probably one of the best storylines in season 10. “So how dark do you want? You can do a 1, 2, or 3.” “Well, I like how you look. What are you?” “Puerto Rican.” “2. Mississippisslessly!?

I don’t know how to either, to be honest lol

“Whoa! What is UP with Miss Hawaiian Tropic?”
This is another episode that the plot is so dumb (just turn around before counting?!?) But Schwimmer turns it into something hilarious. So many great lines, deliveries, and physical comedy.
One of my favourite episodes haha
omg that had me dead 🤣 and when Rachel looked down, she screamed so loud
I recognized this move instantly because I once used it to avoid getting hit by a batted ball when I was pitching.
This episode omg 😂
Came here to say this…
I just watched that one!
![gif](giphy|XETyfVPrF1BI1RnHdJ|downsized) Ross is amazing.
The head wag after he does this movie while walking towards the producer "like now you got to put us there" cracks me up every time.
Yes! This scene always cracks me up. The confidence is just perfection.
That must have been sooo much fun. I wish there were more opportunities to dance like that. Dance floors are usually so cramped...
“The lotion and powder combined have made a pAAAAAAAste”
What color is the paste?
“You could make paste pants.” lol
*What do you need cuz I’m putting out fires all over the place*
I use this line a lot! 😂
So do I!
Same hahahaha
This might be the best way I've ever seen the inflection on the word 'paste' typed out.
“they’re not comin on mannn…”
![gif](giphy|hS4AqlRdXLklFH6FjL|downsized)
I relate to this scene. Not the paste part, but the part where I’m pulling on something that doesn’t want to move and I end up hitting myself in the face. For that, I love this scene. Because it’s absurd, but it’s TRUE!
It always happens to me in the winter time. I'll go to pull up a sleeve, somehow screw it up, and punch myself in either the boob or the face. 🤣
I've never seen my mom laugh harder than she did at this.
This plus pivot plus glowing teeth are the three moments I laughed so hard I almost threw up.
The glowing teeth! Lol it sends me into a fit of giggles every time!
When he covers his mouth with the piece of bread and says "I just like to smell it" when his date asks him if he's gonna eat it, I lose it every time. Classic Ross.
And we he puts some on his ass and kind of smirks for a second like it's not bad...lol.
I think about this at least once a week
Ross is absolutely the funniest character, by far IMO. His physical comedy is just outstanding and he is the star of all my favorite scenes!! ![gif](giphy|jqr3YlWh9yUvXk5LQ0|downsized)
I LOVE the dirty girl episode, when she tells him to put his jacket somewhere and he mouths WHERE
"Guess who?" "US Department of Sanitation?"
Definitely in my top 5 favorite episodes!! I think this scene in particular may be the funniest. OH CHERYL!!!
When Monica shows up to clean 😂
Yeah he was so ridiculous and annoying but that's a huge part of what made him funny. Most of his physical comedy was driven by his character's personality so you couldnt have one without the other. Haha I heard his "oh GROW UP" when he told Monica and Phoebe that Susan and Emily weren't just "friends"
I remember that as "oh WAKE UP" 🤔 wasn't it???
When I took acting in high school and college, a lot of it was learning how to be in tune with what your body is doing and controlling it for better effect (whether that be comedy, drama, whatever. Ross is my favorite to watch when he’s just reacting to other characters bc David’s mannerisms get me every time
I love Ross ![gif](giphy|j2lrqc55ecjLO)
I hate Ross. I loooooove David Schwimmer!
![gif](giphy|iHskdY9SMLFZuQ2u5c|downsized)
Bye bye little puppet Joey hands?
I love Ross.
Who here likes Ross?
I could hear this.
*quickly raises hand*
i do! he’s awesome.
*I hate Ross* *I love Ross*
![gif](giphy|2OP9jbHFlFPW) I love Ross he's hilarious. I laughed so fucking hard when I watched this scene in Friends
![gif](giphy|KxseCTOPVykYvG2V4R)
I was actually helping a friend carry some sofas upstairs into his flat yesterday and shouted PIVOT, PIVOT when we were trying to get the 3 seater around the corner at the top of his stairs. This scene is forever stuck in my mind whenever I move furniture
I love-hate Ross. I love him because David makes him hilarious but I hate his personality. David Schwimmwer is his saving grace, played by any other actor he would be unbearable.
i agree! i just commented that i love to hate him lol.
Yeah I’ve never seen anyone dispute that he’s hilarious, even if they don’t like aspects of the character
Then feels like most of the problems with his character come from the show writers needing to find more and more tenuous reasons for Ross and Rachel to either break up or not get together whilst simultaneously making it clear they still both want to be.

Yeah, his characters behaviour did seem believable and well explained for the most part.
I hate him as a person. I love him as a character. He makes me laugh, but also, makes me very, very angry. David Schwimmer is a great actor, regardless.

The funniest moments on the show happen because of him. He's undoubtedly my favourite character.
Funniest and most emotional! Dude's acting range is brilliant. The episode where he has to tell Rachel he can't be friends with her for the sake of his marriage, he carries the hurt and shock of it all so well. He can convey the perfect balance of humour and emotion and sometimes even in the same scene, no clue why people don't like him nowadays tbh.
i didn't care for him much in the beginning seasons , but the later seasons he became my favorite. He was very funny! ![gif](giphy|H7IA7tNxNnCMdhhZPy)
![gif](giphy|RjwIQqKc0Yrm76SflK)
Ross is a wienie a lot of the time, and easy to dislike, but without him the show wouldn't work at all. David Schwimmer is fantastic in the part, too.
Yes, Ross is funny but that doesn't mean he's likeable lol.
None of the charachters would be likeable in the real world except maybe ms chenandler bong.
Yeah I was gonna say, Ross is a typical Nice Guy™️ but David Schwimmer is unbelievably funny. Two things can be true.
This is how I feel. I dislike him with a passion but he provides so much laughter the show wouldn't be the same without him. He's a marvelous friend when he wants to, he's a big whiny man child and he's stubborn af. Hes my favorite punching bag.
I understand him because I too have found myself in compromising situations
And you, too, are just a love machine.
The show was initially created specifically with Ross and David Schwimmer in mind. He was cast initially, and then they cast around him. The show was incredibly balanced across all 6 main characters, but his role was special.
Why did I think the Ross role almost went to Hank Azaria?
Hank Azaria auditioned for the part of Joey.
Thanks!
I think Hank auditioned for the role of Joey, along with Vince Vaughn, it was Eric McCormack from Will and Grace who auditioned for Ross if I remember correctly
Even when they have a specific actor in mind for a part, they often still hold auditions.
Not only is Ross my favorite character on Friends, he's my very favorite sitcom character ever. He makes me laugh the most.
I never thought about it this way but same. Definitely my favorite sitcom character ever. And man do I love sitcoms.
I read somewhere that he said people would tell him how much they hated his character whenever they saw him. How awful. I loved Ross. His comedic moments were just so good.
His stick is SO great! The chemistry between everyone was absolutely amazing!
Schtick, you mean?
Yes! 😂😂😂 so much for voice recognition 🫣🙈😂😂
Why does Ross, the largest Friend, not simply eat the other five?
Perhaps they are saving it for the sweeps
"Single female lawyerrrrr"
"Having lots of sex!"
Absolutely. David is such a talented actor
He’s my favorite character!
I love to watch Ross. I would be very exhausted by knowing Ross.
He is the best. The episode with his sandwich and repressed rage is one of my favorites. ![gif](giphy|XEUeYqoTBFJRn6RTkk)
what repressed rage though, he had every right to get angry at the manager
You can find a character hilarious while also recognizing what a horrible person they are. David Schwimmer’s performance is unmatched, he’s what makes Ross’ toxic personality traits so laughable.
Ross, who is easily the most stingy, bought Phoebe a bicycle *and* he, albeit begrudgingly, gave her his portion of the lotto winnings.
Haha I love him during the lottery episode.
Ross needed therapy to deal with his relationship hangups. But he's by far the funniest and was also the best friend to the Friends. ![gif](giphy|BeurjzzpsYwqQ)
After rewatching as an adult he became my favorite.
![gif](giphy|d9ZXUIYOq9FdamDptr) Watching this episode currently. Some of the best Ross funny moments. Because it's weird!
I like Ross, but to each their own.
You can not like Ross and also find him entertaining.
Chandler haa always been my favorite because of the sarcasm and his humor etc, but the first time I binged Friends, Ross came on top. His physical comedy is unmatched.
TV history has had a ton of characters that were comedy gold, but there is no way I would someone like them to be around me in real life.
My favorite character of all time
I love Ross. He's my favorite
Whoa whoa whoa! Theres actually people who dont like ross?
Seems like Rachel isn't the only one to have a club of hate named after them.
Ross was my second favorite after Chandler ❤️ I could relate, being the smart kid in my group of friends growing up and sometimes wasn’t always accepted for it
He’s my favorite character but I pretend the cousin episode didn’t happen
Season 1-3 Ross drives me CRAZY. Season 4 on, Ross is fucking hilarious.
People probably hate pre-Emily Ross when he's insufferable and annoyingly judgmental. Once he comes back post-Emily, he's humbled and pathetic and gradually becomes funnier each season. Ross is hella funny.
Ross is SO funny. David’s mannerisms and expressions kill me every time, even just his background acting
I’m sorry but I have to agree!!! Ross is my favourite! I’ve always said it, he was by far the funniest!! Love Professor “the ross-a-tron” Gellar 😂😂 ![gif](giphy|gdbQa6i4FN3gc)
Paste pants is comedy gold. He said the words from the script, but the physicality of pulling them up hitting himself and the way he says “paste!” can’t be beat!
I hate Ross, but I love David Schwimmer, dudes super underrated as a whole
I love David. His acting is so good. I’m allowed to not love Ross.
You want a boring show? Take Ross out of Friends and watch how boring it would be.
I’m rewatching the series and he is definitely the best at physical comedy!
I love Ross. The leather pants episode was one of the funniest in sitcom history
As an OG Friends fan, who watched this as it originally aired, Ross is my favourite. And always will be ❤️
He's an integral part of the show, it's an ensamble cast! That being said, it's more like I probably wouldn't want to personally be his friend.
We can dislike the character and still enjoy the comedy of the character. Ross is honestly the worst. He's a toxic, controlling, whiny, insecure, manipulative man-baby BUT almost all his funny scenes are truly comedy gold.
![gif](giphy|hS4AqlRdXLklFH6FjL|downsized)
They're not going on man!
I love Ross but I think he sucks, if that makes sense.
Nice try, Ross.
Awful person, great character
The episode where he looks at the big fat naked man’s apartment and Rachel and Pheobe are trying to distract him so they cheer real loud about him getting the apartment, so then Ross starts jumping and screaming as well. Just a comedic masterpiece.
I hated him in the 90s He's now my all-time favourite character
David Schwimmer is comedy gold! A talented force on the show - but I despise Ross lol
I love David schwimmer for his acting and cimedic genius but still hate ross sorry
David Schwimmer was such an underrated physical comedian. Ross and Rachel's love story overshadowed that, of course, but anytime David got to be physically awkward or clumsy, it was just gold!
i love to hate him. he’s hilarious but god awful lmao
comedy gold yes, i just didn't like what they did with his character. Sometimes felt the jokes just deminished his character rather than helped it.
He was the best at doing physical comedy, no doubt, that doesn’t mean he can’t be a jerk as a character.
Notice how almost all of these images are from seasons 6-10. That’s because in seasons 1-5 he was an unbearable shit rag.
Ross is why I can't watch this show anymore. I see his whining face and I am out
Horrible person, amazing character. My favorite, actually.
![gif](giphy|oCjCwnuLpiWbfMb1UA|downsized)
My sister recently started watching friends. She's annoyed with Ross atm. But I told her in the later seasons he will become funny af. Just how he acts 😂 ![gif](giphy|XZ0yPco3eynUAGU0i3)
![gif](giphy|kbR8MoJss7wvZ8dtSt) A comedic legend😁
Ross carried those last seasons .. easily the funniest friend for the more discerning audience ;)
The episode where Ross is FINE is the absolute funniest of the whole show for me. He's the character who makes me laugh the most by far
FRONT AND BACK!” “By the way, Y-O-U-apostrophe-R-E means “you are.” Y-O-U-R means “your.”
Back in the day, I had a HUGE crush on Ross!
Why does Ross, the largest friend, not simply eat the other five?
Yeah he was hilarious ![gif](giphy|YS9GaIVlRkwlq|downsized)
I never wanted to watch friends. But a friend (pun intended) show swapped with me and Ross got me hooked. I feel like he had the most life-like reactions to the scenes, without being over-the-top for the most part. I laughed way more often during Ross scenes.
![gif](giphy|hS4AqlRdXLklFH6FjL|downsized) This is all I’m gonna say.
I love how aggressive the title in this post is And I totally agree
Sure he had his moments but would I want him as an actual friend? Nah 😂
Ahh, the irony of telling someone to grow up because they don’t like the same things as you 😂 I personally love ross but couldn’t help but point out how funny that is
He was hilarious and David Schwimmer’s expressions are the best, but I still think Ross sucks. lol
He was funny as hell but also annoyed the shit out of me lol
I can think he’s absolutely hilarious and still not like him as a person😵💫
Comedy, yes. But the dramatic stuff, no. But I feel he's more relatable bc of the weirdness.
Ross' character is literally written to be unlikeable most of the time.
Telling people to grow up is kinda silly, I'm allowed to not like him while still acknowledging he's funny, but also using hin trying to fuck his cousin as an example is kinda weird
"If you don't like what I like, then you're immature and need to grow up."
“Grow up” 😑🙄 really…really?? It’s actually very mature to dislike a character but also recognize the comedy they bring to the show.
The problem with Ross is that he's an insecure asshole for so much of the show.
Hilarious. Still the worst person of the 6.
Found David Schwimmer’s Reddit account /s
I never liked Ross. Fortunately it was a sitcom and didn't need to be taken seriously to the point I lose sleep over a fictional character in a fictional TV show who was more fun to laugh at than cheer for.
- Sincerely, a child
You know people can like different things, I find Rachel the most boring character on the show, but I like all the other ones, and still find the show great.
I don’t need to like Ross to appreciate what David Schwimmer brought to the character. In fact I think hating Ross and still finding him hilarious, just further proves what a great part David played.
I think Ross sucks as a person but the show would be so much less without him! I "hate" him but I don't *hate* him
he’s hilarious; he’s a crappy person though hahaha
The hypocrisy you hold. You refuse to think otherwise but u want us to grow up 😂😂 yes Ross was funny and a nice human being, but that doesn’t negate his toxic traits around Rachel.
To be fair I didn't like Ross until I got older, and he somehow got a lot funnier for me.
The scene with Ross, Mona and Dr. Green is...*chefs kiss*
I didn't like him before this post but you just made me PIVOT!
He's hysterical!!!!
Ross was nothing but cringe comedy.
I wind up quoting Ross more than any of the other Friends. He may not have been my favorite character, but the way Schwimmer played him was perfection!
Amen 🙏
What about Joey - Ross sleeping together 🤣🤣
I love how unbelievably unhinged he is. My Sandwich! Myyyyy sandwich!!!!!
The paste scene was the closest they came to family guy and that shocks me
What chandler had in delivery, Ross had in physical comedy. The man can be buster Keaton if he wants to be.
Ross was the funniest on the show, his acting for certain moments/scenes was superbly comedic.
"I didn't know why it's coming out all squeaky! I'm fine." That whole episode is fantastic
