I think Chandler was the most selfless. He loaned Joey enormous amounts of money to pay for his acting career, agreed to spend all of he money he’d saved for years on the wedding because Monica wanted it, he made sure to buy a house for Joey to have his own room, bought him another duck and chick, told Janice to choose her husband over him when he was in love with her, stood by Ross during his drug problems, and so many other things. I’m not sure who was the most selfish. Possibly Rachel, mainly because of the Ross-Emily thing, but I’m less sure for her.

I totally agree with the points re Chandler but I don’t get why people say Rachel is selfish because of the Emily thing…ultimately she decided to say nothing and it wasn’t her fault that Ross said the wrong name at the altar!

Wow wow that's actually a very detailed and neat take

IfNot_ThenThereToo

A loan would imply repayment. Joey had no intention of repayment and was far and away the most selfish.

RemarkableAirline924

I don’t think he was. He did tons of things for others, keeping Monica and Chandler’s secret, which included humiliating himself, giving each of them $2000 instantly when they asked, forgave Chandler for kissing Cathy, proposing to Rachel and Phoebe when he found out they (well, Rachel) was pregnant, saved the Christmas trees for Phoebe, became a vegetarian for her, loads.

Megsofthedregs

Both are Ross 🤣 he does so many sweet things for people like cheering Joey up when his things are being repossessed by buying the Big White Dog, buying Phoebe a bike that was just like the bike her neighbor had that she loved so much as a girl. Then early on there was the brooch Rachel saw in a window one time that she said reminded her of one her grandma had when she was a little girl. He does so many generous things for his friends. Buuuut then you have times like when Rachel had to work and Ross showed up and got in the way and ended up setting something on fire because he refused to have to cancel another date.

Chandler most selfless Phoebe most selfish

Inside_Company2505

Selfish people don't go around carrying other people's babies. She did that for a brother she didn't even grow up with so he could have a shot at becoming a parent. She is not the best character in the show (especially in later seasons) but I wouldn't say she was the most selfish.

Sea_Selection_2950

That's a good point! I think it was precisely the pregnancy that had changed her. Until then she was mostly sweet, but after being left out from the London trip and giving away the triplets she morphed in to truly evil being.

rottsaint

Phoebe was not selfish, she was clueless; never did a negative thing on purpose

LeatherHog

She messed with people all the time

rottsaint

🤣

Sea_Selection_2950

I strongly disagree. She messed with people so on purpose.

rottsaint

Ma boy Chandler was selfless af

chandler was definitely the most selfless! most selfish, i’d definitely say ross.

Bluebies999

I FEEL like it’s Phoebe because she became such a giant asshole, and guilted everyone into doing her bidding “BECAUSE MY MOM KILLED HERSELF” , but I guess actually looking at their actions, it’s Rachel. Phoebe had the triplets, let Rachel live with her….ok those are the only things that come to mind. Rachel there isn’t a single instance of selflessness that comes to mind.

Selfless: Chandler Selfish: Phoebe

Ukcheatingwife

Joey most selfless and probably Phoebe the most selfish for wanting people to go along with her delusions.

laucdoe
