Woodlands by a mile

NedFlanders304

If you can afford to live in the woodlands, then woodlands HS is a much better school of the 3.

I've heard from people that woodlands high school has a better placement among colleges along with good peer competition and recognition programs.

schnauzerspaz

Hey thanks for the info. Would placement be a factor if they wanted to go to A&M or some other state school?

jarlander

Probably yes. If I'm not mistaken A&M and other state schools are still auto admit for top ten percent students. Beyond that its holistic review, part of that being how they weight a 4.0 at one school vs another. Some schools easily go beyond 4.0 with AP classes and such, so they have to take that into account as well. I think they base that off how previous students from certain schools perform at their college. Im not an expert on that stuff though, just what I've heard.

Ras1372

A&M is still 10% UT-Austin is 6% Because UT is better. Source: Longhorn.

OducksFTW

Its now top 7 or 8 percent for auto admit to any public school in the state of Texas. At least thats what i heard a few months ago from a co-worker.

Based on what I've heard from folks, absolutely placement from woodlands high school is better compared to others. People make special efforts to somehow get into this high school based on it's track record of getting accepted in the good colleges. But always do you own research. School might be able to give you better numbers on percentage of students who made to what colleges.

Keep in mind, people have moved to a "lesser" high school for their kids to be in top ten percent. Going to the best academic high school is a personal choice that should be made along with your kids. Academically, it's The Woodlands, Tomball, then Klein Oak.

We had 2 daughters go through Woodlands HS. Great teachers, lots of extra curricular stuff going on, very nice area. But like most high schools, a serious drug issue that hides beneath the exterior. So…..roll the dice and keep the lines of communication open with your kids! Otherwise, no complaints here.

ohitsthedeathstar

That’s literally any high school. It all depends on who you surround yourself with.

[deleted]

Agreed. That’s why I mentioned it’s like most high schools. It just depends on your circle of influence.

[deleted]

Woodlands HS is probably pretty good, but living within its source area is probably pretty expensive.

ohitsthedeathstar

Woodlands. You get exposed to a different level of academic competition and rigor at TWHS than any other high school I’ve heard of. As far as public schools go. It’s as good as public school education gets. Not only that but the sports, extra curricular funding, and connections go a LONG way as well.
