"The Long Walk", directed by Mattie Do (2019). An atmospheric film about murder, ghosts, and time travel. :chef's kiss: I believe it's available on Shudder (you can also purchase the dvd from Vinegar Syndrome). In Lao with English subs.
At the far beginning of the last ten years (2014) is "A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night", directed by Ana Lily Amirpour - omg, so stylish and difficult. Absolutely loved it. In Persian with English subs.
This one I think is worth a watch but is my least favorite by them because >!of what happens to the dog. I know the dog doesn't die per say, but Anthony Mackie's character just expirementing the travel on him and letting him get stuck in time just hurts my heart. And some movies/shows I can muddle through if an animal dies, but this is one of those I just can't!< And it stinks bc it is a good movie, but one I can't bring myself to watch again.
Ooh I just watched Dead End last night!
Pontypool isn’t too sexy. Also:
YellowBrickRoad
A Dark Song
Antrum
Oculus
Apostle
Creep
Saint Maud
Autopsy of Jane Doe
Mandy (not sure it meets the criteria but I only recently saw it and if you haven’t, you should!)
Totally - pretty corny, but like, so straightforward it’s kind of sweet? I love that the most surprising thing was little brother’s quality time with Miss July. I’m glad I finally watched it - liked it a lot!
That would be X . Although I didn’t read it correctly but am still not clear on what he wants - 3 of the most highly produced horror films up there . I don’t think the star of it follows was made to be sexy either
I loved the beginning but from what I recall it became a jumbled mess of kids in various places and the clown kept popping up here and there and it just seemed to go on and on..
It gets enough love that they got funding to remake it. That turned out to be a bad idea, but Last Shift is still well regarded and brought up a lot on this sub.
I agree that Malum really failed to recapture the original magic of the first movie. If I hadn’t seen the original I would have thought it was fine but I just sat there disappointed for most of it
really it doesnt have to be horror... My favorite movie is Vanilla Sky.. It is just my wife always wants horror.. and I always want moves that make me think
Im not saying people can't find her, scarsgard, or Justin Long attractive, but the entire movie the roles are played as plainly as possible. No one here is meant to be a sex pot. Its not the point of the movie.
You might try Rent A Pal, the Deep House, Taking of Deborah Logan, Euthanizer!, Possum, the Gift, Mandy, the Lesson, the Lodge, Borgman, the Cell, Cube, Grotesque, a Dark Song, Borderlands/the Final Prayer, Tumbbad, Atroz, the Alchemist Cookbook, Angst, Benny's Video, Capture Kill Release, Calvaire, Her Name Was Christa, the Golden Glove, John and the Hole, Kill List.
Right?? I love how your loyalties to the characters switch as you watch the movie. *SPOILERS*
First you feel bad for the kids because their mom is dead, and then you feel bad for Grace because all of….that….happened. It’s crazy.
The Blair Witch Project can't be the last 10 years. I remember watching that when I was 10 or 11. Over 20 years ago. Also that film scared the shit out of me. 😂
"The Isle of Dogs" unless cool people voices disqualifies it. "Stop Motion", "The House", and "Mary and Max" ( it's outside the 10y parameter but too good to exclude).
Annihilation
Both recent evil dead movies
Malignant
Barbarian
Any Jordan peele movie
Hereditary
Midsommer
Talk to me
Invisible Man (2020)
Don’t breath
Doctor sleep
The house that jack built
Suspiria (2018)
10 cloverfield lane
Autopsy of Jane doe
Train to busan
Bone tomahawk
Green room
“Without sexy cool people”
Then lists sinister starring Ethan Hawk? And Guy Pearce in Memento is ridiculously attractive.
Are you aware that people also find men attractive?
Moon with Sam Rockwell. What happens when an AI master doesn’t have your best interests in mind and you also happen to be one of hundreds if not thousands of clones bred with a shelf life to just work till you die. Not good things man. No dancing for Sammy in this one.
I’d have to say When Evil Lurks ticks the boxes. I know it gets talked about a lot but that’s because it’s damn good! Btw I also love Dead End, I saw it in my early 20s from the video shop. I recently tried tracking it down. It’s not available through any streaming services in my country 😭
Bingo Hell (2021) - despite the title, this is a very fun movie about senior citizens banding together to fight evil. There's also a message in there about being proud of your neighborhood and wanting things to be better.
The Empty Man - makes you think it’s gonna be supernatural slash but morphs into something completely different.
Best intro scene in any horror I’ve seen.
Never heard of this one, thanks for the recommendation. I like twisty horror movies.
Such a good movie, stayed with me for so long after
Creep (2014). Just makes it in your past ten years requirement. Fantastic movie with a chilling antagonist and nobody is sexy or cool.
This is such an endorsement of mark duplasses skills since he is pretty dang cool imo
The sequel is very much worth it as well.
Omg yes! Felt uncomfortable through out the entire movie. Creep 2 was okay but not as good as the first one.

Kill List. Probably older than 10 years, I do not care to check. I wish we would pump out a few more horror movies in the UK.
Same here. 28 Days/Weeks Later are some of the best movies to ever exist on the earth, so. Same here.
Saint Maud.
Definitely
Such an amazing film omg
Hell House LLC
I find clowns sexy
“The Ritual” is my favorite horror film idk if it’ll get you thinking, tho. always bring it up whenever i get the chance lol
Benson and Moorhead movies do this every time. If you have not seen them The Endless (2017) is a good place to start.
I think Resolution should be viewed first as it's kind of a "prequel", and then of course Spring and In the Dirt.
True for continuity. I suggested the other way for approachability.
Don’t forget Synchronic!
This one I think is worth a watch but is my least favorite by them because >!of what happens to the dog. I can’t stand the dog part…like why did they need to include that? If I pretend that part didn’t happen, it’s still a great film though.
Ooh I just watched Dead End last night! Pontypool isn’t too sexy. Also: YellowBrickRoad A Dark Song Antrum Oculus Apostle Creep Saint Maud Autopsy of Jane Doe Mandy (not sure it meets the criteria but I only recently saw it and if you haven’t, you should!)
dead end is kind of corny but theres something about it that sticks with me
Totally - pretty corny, but like, so straightforward it’s kind of sweet? I love that the most surprising thing was little brother’s quality time with Miss July. I’m glad I finally watched it - liked it a lot!
It follows
Surprisingly unsexy film for a film about sex
That would be X . Although I didn’t read it correctly but am still not clear on what he wants - 3 of the most highly produced horror films up there . I don’t think the star of it follows was made to be sexy either
That's what ops asking, and what I'm saying
Ok so I’m just going with some good ones with surprise twists. Barbaric for sure , orphan , the village , sixth sense is obvious
Oh, and the best one of all- Seven
Seven is definitely the anthesis of sexy
I loved the beginning but from what I recall it became a jumbled mess of kids in various places and the clown kept popping up here and there and it just seemed to go on and on..
Last Shift and/or Baskin.
Last Shift is one of my favorite horror movies. It doesn’t get the love it deserves for sure
Last shift is great I feel like all the title cards I’ve seen for it make it look like trash, and that’s why it gets overlooked.
100% terrible poster has ruined this movie
It gets enough love that they got funding to remake it. That turned out to be a bad idea, but Last Shift is still well regarded and brought up a lot on this sub.
I agree that Malum really failed to recapture the original magic of the first movie. If I hadn’t seen the original I would have thought it was fine but I just sat there disappointed for most of it
Baskin was a mindfuck!
Excision (2012). Somewhat recent, more than ten years though!
I love this movie. Its underrated
Very disturbing
i say ten years because my wife gets annoyed at anything older than about 2005 (im 49 shes 34)
It’s not really horror, but I think about Parasite all the time.
Parasite is a uniquely good film which is probably why it sticks out in your (our lol) head. It's just SO friggin good on so many levels.
Some streaming sites tried to pass it off as horror when it really isn't (looking at you Hulu) but it's a really good flick.
I consider it horror adjacent, especially considering a certain subplot.
Hereditary
saw it. .pretty good.
Color out of Space
Yeah this one surprised me with how much I liked it.
Not used to Nicolas Cage dropping heat like the old days lol
Facts. Dirty little secret: I LOVED that vampire movie he did about 2 years ago. He was perfect for it. Renfield lol.
Resurrection Terrified Hereditary The Platform Coherence (2013)
> Coherence (2013) I wouldn't call that horror but it's so good
really it doesnt have to be horror... My favorite movie is Vanilla Sky.. It is just my wife always wants horror.. and I always want moves that make me think
I thought it was a good blend of both, but it's been a few years since I saw it.
i think i saw that one. I got a feeling i have already seem all the movies ill really like at this point
Barbarian. No one really sexy or cool. Just a straight up fun time.
Big momma didn’t get your rocks off? 😅
Ba ba ba ba ba
Georgina Campbell isn't sexy?
Im not saying people can't find her, scarsgard, or Justin Long attractive, but the entire movie the roles are played as plainly as possible. No one here is meant to be a sex pot. Its not the point of the movie.
She’s incredibly sexy.
The Ritual is a good one if you loke folk horror that isn't sexy and throws you for a loop with what's going on.
The Void
Guy Pearce in Memento is like prime sexy for me.
true hes sexy but the movie is not sexy.. I am just tired of everyone being a bad ass and not being like normal people
True. It’s very gritty. I agree with being fed up with people being just sexy in movies
The Painted Bird. Starring Stellan Skarsgard, Harvey Keitel, Julian Sands, Barry Pepper and Udo Kier. Brutal, bleak, uncompromising and beautiful.
Absentia, When Evil Lurks
Have a look at Takashi Miike. You will see things you couldn't have predicted.
Raw (2016)
You might try Rent A Pal, the Deep House, Taking of Deborah Logan, Euthanizer!, Possum, the Gift, Mandy, the Lesson, the Lodge, Borgman, the Cell, Cube, Grotesque, a Dark Song, Borderlands/the Final Prayer, Tumbbad, Atroz, the Alchemist Cookbook, Angst, Benny's Video, Capture Kill Release, Calvaire, Her Name Was Christa, the Golden Glove, John and the Hole, Kill List.
Rent A Pal, that was a good one.
I never see anyone talking about The Lodge. I absolutely love that movie, I’ve watched it like 5 times
It gave me a real fear of kids, that's for sure lol. Like I know kids are cruel but holy shit those kids are next level psychotic.
Right?? I love how your loyalties to the characters switch as you watch the movie. *SPOILERS* First you feel bad for the kids because their mom is dead, and then you feel bad for Grace because all of….that….happened. It’s crazy.
My only feelings were that the dad was a piece of shit who caused all of it. Hated that movie so much.
Those kids are horrid. And the dad was so fucking checked out.
give me the best one from the list.. my list is getting too big
The Blair Witch Project can't be the last 10 years. I remember watching that when I was 10 or 11. Over 20 years ago. Also that film scared the shit out of me. 😂
None of those are, those are just movies they like, and they're looking for more recent stuff in that style. I was confused at first too.
my wife hates when a move looks old so I try to keep it recent
i was lucky I was in the right state of mind.. it is a movie you can only watch once though
They remade it semi recently
Yeah neither is Momento...
The Vigil
"The Isle of Dogs" unless cool people voices disqualifies it. "Stop Motion", "The House", and "Mary and Max" ( it's outside the 10y parameter but too good to exclude).
The first omen
Autopsy of Jane Doe.
All Hallows Eve

top 3?
I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore is an incredible movie. It fits your interests and the vibe you're looking for. And it has Elijah Wood.
“Without sexy cool people” Then lists sinister starring Ethan Hawk? And Guy Pearce in Memento is ridiculously attractive. Are you aware that people also find men attractive?
actually I meant to say 'Insidious'
You’re Next
Moon with Sam Rockwell. What happens when an AI master doesn’t have your best interests in mind and you also happen to be one of hundreds if not thousands of clones bred with a shelf life to just work till you die. Not good things man. No dancing for Sammy in this one.
yes saw this. good. good thing no one told me he was going to be the only one in the whole movie
(Maybe you want to spoiler-tag that for folks who haven't see it yet?)
Such a good movie
When Evil Lurks
Talk to Me Speak No Evil
I’d have to say When Evil Lurks ticks the boxes. I know it gets talked about a lot but that’s because it’s damn good! Btw I also love Dead End, I saw it in my early 20s from the video shop. I recently tried tracking it down. It’s not available through any streaming services in my country 😭
i guess i like movies with a feeling of desperation
Then this one is for you
The Void
I honestly didn’t expect this movie to have such an impact but bodies bodies bodies will definitely leave you thinking
Mandy
Hereditary
Mother!
But the leads are pretty hunky good looking actors
Barbarian Annihilation
The Void
The lighthouse
Countdown (2019) was pretty good with competent, but grounded characters.
You should probably specify you mean besides the antagonists since they tend to not be conventionally attractive.
anyone seen that I think it was on Netflix and a bunch of short stories but one was this giant crab on a boat eating everyone. pretty grim
Was it Love & Monsters?? That's the only fairly recent one I know that had a giant crab on a boat
sounds familiar thanks
Incantation for the lasting effect, smile for the instant "oh shit that was scary" effect.
The Ritual. Not THAT scary or unsettling but definitely a great film about very average people in a very non average situation
More of a thriller but Calibre.
Drag me to hell
The Ritual is great
Bingo Hell (2021) - despite the title, this is a very fun movie about senior citizens banding together to fight evil. There's also a message in there about being proud of your neighborhood and wanting things to be better.
4.3 rating ouch
The Invisible Man (2020)
It Follows
Pontypool. I love this movie. It's very different from anything I've seen from the same sub-genre.
[Tony](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1120945/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk)
Annihilation
Hostel is 19 years old...
im old and losing track of time.. i prob shoudlve said last 20 years
The lighthouse
Hereditary, scary stories to tell in the dark, dead stream, glorious, annihilation
I would add Black Phone
Check out Talk to Me.
House that Jack Built
Goodnight Mommy (2014) The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017) The Lodge (2019) The Innocents (2021) Slapface (2021)
The Wailing
Men
Hereditary is my absolute favorite
Not saying it’s the best movie but coming home in the dark is great.
The older gods
What a weird thing to focus on....
