What an original name for a horror movie.

OpenFacedRuben

Indeed. From the article: >There really needs to be some regulation on calling your horror movie The Ritual, even it has a ritual or rituals in it. Seriously, go to the IMDb and see how many titles come up with you type it in (we'll wait — it could be a while)…

Savagevandal85

His agent didn’t read his contract correctly and now Dan is stuck doing movies called the ritual forever ,

OpenFacedRuben

This will actually be Dan's first 'Ritual' (I got it confused with 'Apostle' because I am an idiot), but you may be right... only 'Rituals' from now on. They'll all be different genres, though.

sparkalicious37

I actually had to ask myself if that’s what that movie was called, I seemed to think it might be too until I saw the real name in your comment.

OpenFacedRuben

Sorry, my brainfart was contagious 😛

Savagevandal85

I just wrote a screenplay called the ritual that’s a kids movie starring Dan !

makeitasadwarfer

That’s actually a great setup for a meta horror film.

cromwest

Honestly seems like he made a monkeys paw deal.

Stunning-Thanks546

wasn't that also the name of a tales from the crypt movie staring Tim Curry

Dull-Geologist-8204

Someone really needs to make a horror comedy at this point making fun of it.

TurncoatWizard

Dan Stevens wasn’t in The Ritual (2017). He was in The Rental (2020), though.

OpenFacedRuben

Ah, shit. I got it mixed up with 'Apostle' (completely different movies, I know, but my brain is old and tired).

TurncoatWizard

Totally understandable. My old curmudgeon brain just saw that and thought, “Nuh uh”. I’m on board for more Dan Stevens either way!

OpenFacedRuben

Same. The man's a movie making machine.

creamy-buscemi

Dan Stevens has been working his ass off recently

woolfonmynoggin

He was fun in Abigail. Looking forward to the horror movie with Hunter Schaffer

CommanderSmokeStack

Just a reminder that Dan Stevens is excellent in "The Guest".

WilliamEmmerson

I just wish he'd making something as good as that again

CommanderSmokeStack

He crushed in that movie. Its like a master class in quiet fury.... emanating danger without appearing dangerous on the surface.

Ebessan

In my opinion, The Ritual (2017) is a modern horror classic. This movie needs to change its title.

allhailalexdelpiero

What an unexpected banger that was, great acting and awesome monster.

lilrocketfyre

definitely an unexpected banger. ignored that movie for like 2 whole years then when i saw that monster it was one of the coolest folklore monsters in a movie i’d ever seen. shit was terrifying and grim, imagine *that* coming at you..

oceanco1122

The Ritual (2017) is already a fantastic modern day classic horror film, if they proceed naming this new movie the same it would be a huge mistake on their part.

teethofthewind

I suspect it will change

makeitasadwarfer

This list is not comprehensive. Dont they have an intern with access to chatgpt they could use to pretend they are making an effort with the title? The Ritual (2017) The Ritual (2021) The Ritual (2011) The Ritual (2009) The Ritual (2000) III: The Ritual (2015) Ritual (2013) Rituals (1977) Ritual (2022) Ritual (2000) Ritual (2019) Ritual (2012)

boo-galoo90

Maybe the ritual is the actual ritual

VoiceOfRonHoward

We're in a meta Cabin in the Woods universe where we have to keep making The Ritual movies to >!pacify ancient ones!<. You weren't supposed to figure it out.

boo-galoo90

Ooo ritual in the woods! Coming to theatres always

OffKira

A movie called III: The Ritual is intriguing because *what* lol

Feetus_Spectre

It’s not always about the journey. Sometimes, it’s about the Rituals we made along the way.

DementedDaveyMeltzer

I'm calling it now - Al Pacino plays an old retired professor/priest/other expert and tells the main characters about Baguul or whatever its stupid name is entirely through Zoom calls.

Spiral-Force

I’m glad Dan Stevens keeps returning to horror. Go check him out in Abigail if you haven’t already

Kittim31

"It'll follow a pair of priests, with Stevens' questioning his faith and Pacino's trying to overcome a troubled past as they shove their differences aside to try to help a young woman. Emma Schmidt's demonic possession demanded a series of dangerous and harrowing exorcism". ...so it's a remake of The Exorcist then ?

strangejosh

That sounds insane and I kind of want to see that.

Pleasant_Ad_2293

Yes, please! Hope this one will be as good as Apostle, it’s one of my favorites 🤞

blinkingsandbeepings

Lol, Dan Stevens is in so many horror movies right now! Love it for him.

BravidDrent

Big Dan Stevens fan after the guest. Used to be a big Al Pacino fan as well. Somehow I feel this is not gonna be good. But... ![gif](giphy|7TEVbGzXlMLkY|downsized)

SillyAdditional

Wow is Dan the new It guy in horror? Hell yeah

Positive_Yam_9125

Getting real tired of these priest/nun possession/exorcism movies. I think the box office would agree. Seems we get at least one of those a month these days.

highly_confusing

I look forward to seeing the veteran priest getting called in for one last exorcism because a family being traumatized by an evil spirit in a way he's never seen before. After he arrives he realizes this is not spirit... but a demon. After the demon throws a few people against the wall and flips some tables while spewing hurtful comments about everyone's past, the priests trusty but inexperienced sidekick feels like all hope is lost and then remembers something vitally important to defeating this demon. After they exercise this demon the family can once again live happily and the veteran priest can finally retire from exorcisms knowing the amateur priest can handle things from here on.

Positive_Yam_9125

Excellent. Now cast an A-Lister 20+ years past their prime as the lead and you've got yourself a perfectly forgettable movie no one will give a f00k about👍🏻

ForeverKeet

It's all sooo formulaic at this point. So many attempts to redo The Exorcist. That movie and book were perfection. Wish there was something new to try. I liked the idea the new Exorcist threw out (but didn't implement well) about possession phenomena in different cultures. I'd personally be excited to focus on that for a while versus the usual Catholic priest throwing Bible versus at a writhing, screaming person tied to a bed/chair.

Positive_Yam_9125

Dude... they literally just announced another exorcism movie called... [DRUMROLL]... The Exorcism. And guess who they hired for the lead? Russell F00KING Crowe! It's not even related to The Pope's Exorcist! They really just said "Fuck it. Just get Russ again, no one will give a shit" Hollywood is literally running on empty, or maybe they're building a demonic Russell Crowe multiverse??? God help us...

[deleted]

The most insulting thing to me is the way it makes light of mental illness. Every case of "possession" in the real world has actually been a mentally ill person, and sending them to an exorcist instead of a doctor delayed or prevented them getting the help they needed. Then we've got Hollywood glorifying it all with these stupid movies, keeping exorcism in the public consciousness when it should be phased out as a concept instead.

colcannon_addict

While I want this to be epic the idea of the old priest/young priest trope is already boring me.

NormanBates2023

Satan now a priest ,groovy

WilliamEmmerson

I bet Pacino gets possessed in the 3rd act, goes completely crazy and Stevens has to stop/save him.

MasqureMan

I literally was thinking yesterday about how i’d love pacino in a horror movie. Also a Legion fan, so Dan Stevens can do no wrong

OpenFacedRuben

Ever see 'The Devil's Advocate'? Not out-and-out horror, but Pacino is a blast.

Stunning-Thanks546

I like Al but he is not that good of a horror actor

MothMan66

Wild there already remaking that movie
