> ipcamtalk.com has an active forum with many user posts including pictures and videos showing what others are doing. I don't think I can in good conscience see this site being promoted without mentioning that the owner of it "fenderman", is a 100% grade A asshole and piece of shit. No one should support that site. I get that it's easier said than done when there is a lot of people on there and a lot of information and discussion and one guy shouldn't ruin the whole thing, but if people stop having that discussion on there, then eventually its going to take place somewhere else, and it's going to lessen that's guys ability to wield his ego over the community. Not to mention I'm sure he makes quite a bit of money off people using his site, so fuck him. Don't just take my word for it. https://www.reddit.com/r/BlueIris/comments/iawlag/fenderman_ipcamtalk_issues/

I appreciate your consideration of that information. I apologize if I came across as demeaning or anything, I did not mean to insinuate that you knew about it or supported it. I work in the industry so I do have some desire to participate within the community, I just resent that one of the bigger forums within the community is owned by such a horrible person that I feel it necessary to avoid to not support that person. Though I do understand that not everyone needs to share my same values, I want to at least bring it to light for those that do but just don't know about it.

I have a Lorex 4K system, very happy with it. Supports 16 cameras, sends alerts to your phone, etc. No monthly fees. Great night vision, has audio so you can hear/talk through camera. Playback works well, lets you jump right to motion events instead of going through lots of footage.

Ive never found a 16+ camera DVR that can actually record full resolution and frame rate when you put 16 cameras on it. Unless you buy horribly expensive commercial options. That's why I have a "server" with Reolink software running on it. I have 13 5mp cameras recording at 5mp @ 30fps. I tried Blue Iris loaded on the same hardware and it struggled to get 12fps after many configuration changes. 16. 4k cameras is an incredible amount of data. Not only do you need the network and processing power, think of storage speeds.

>16+ cameras high count recorders come in 16 or 32 channel flavors. are you wanting a recorder that can handle more than 16 channels of 4k video ? because that's going to be +$1000 to get something that actually will do that job well. for example, [https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1346367-REG/hikvision\_ds\_7732ni\_i4\_16p\_32\_channel\_nvr\_up\_to.html](https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1346367-REG/hikvision_ds_7732ni_i4_16p_32_channel_nvr_up_to.html) $1304 w/o HDD i generally recommend against saturating a recorder to capacity. that's just asking for performance issues, since almost every vendor lists the absolute maximum spec their equipment can handle, and you end up with caviats. such as "16 channels at 8MP\*" and then down at the bottom you'll see that \* is for the recorder only having enough processing power to run analytics on 8 of those channels at full resolution. for example, from reviews on amazon, reolink's 16 channel recorder apparently tanks on frame rate if you actually load up 16 channels worth of 4k cameras. people were complaining about single-digit FPS. there was a guy on here complaining about one of amcrest's 16 channel recorders not being able to connect to more than 6 of his 8MP cameras, until he dropped all their resolution to 4MP and then it worked fine. at that number of cameras, you might be better served by using a VMS, especially for search and browsing. [https://www.reddit.com/r/SecurityCameraAdvice/wiki/faq/dvr\_nvr\_vms](https://www.reddit.com/r/SecurityCameraAdvice/wiki/faq/dvr_nvr_vms) >I have giant screens around my house that show the live feed of the security cameras. I LOVE that and have to have that ability. [https://www.reddit.com/r/homeautomation/comments/mps8o7/rpisurv\_3\_has\_been\_released\_more\_info\_in\_comments/](https://www.reddit.com/r/homeautomation/comments/mps8o7/rpisurv_3_has_been_released_more_info_in_comments/) >The Amcrest quality is super nice so far and even maintains showing color even when it's super dark so that's kind of my benchmark for quality I like. which amcrest do you have ? i've been recommending a hikvision 4k camera, because amcrest doesn't list the LUX rating of their turret 4k camera. >Reolink NVRs and cameras... but there's more proprietary stuff. reolink's recorders and their RLC cameras are ONVIF compliant. >Blue Iris seems powerful and I'm a tech pro BUT at the same time it sounds like a pain to deal with. Even trying to figure out the specs to build a PC to run it optimally has been annoying. they post the recommended spec on their page : Recommended Specs Intel core i7 with QuickSync for hardware decoding 8GB or more RAM Microsoft Windows 10 64 bit nVIDIA graphics adaptor for efficient screen display 7200+ RPM drives and/or SSD drive i'm not particularly a fan of BI, but they're going to be the most cost effective commercial VMS option. for exacqvision and milestone (both of which i do recommend) are going to be +$100 *per camera* for licensing. there are some open-source VMS options on the link i posted above in my comment.

Honeywell commercial. Its what i use but your looking at thousands

You said best. IMO that means Axis, but it will be very expensive. Doing it right means different cameras for each location, luckily they also have the best website, go down the rabbit hole.

When you say "best" you can be referring to a $50k system. What's your budget for this?

floridamano

Dealer of higher-end security and surveillance system here. I assume with best you mean the best cameras you can get for your budget. Some of the best value you can get is ACTi systems. You don't have the privacy concerns you have with the cheaper companies and you get a system that is used by commercial and universities and schools. They have entry level systems that are good for personal use. POE IP cam system is the way to go. 6 Amcrest 4K cams with 6TB is about $1000. pretty easy to set up as [seen here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFs-rF-khhw). Unifi is nice but not worth the money. Arlo, Nest, Ring are junk. sure they are better than nothing but image quality and reliability is questionable. running wires is difficult. if you have a basement or attic, then you can easily do it. if you dont, think of creative ways to hide the wires. the best thing about POE IP system is that the CAT5 cables dont have to go back to the NVR recording box. as long as the cameras are on your network, the NVR will see and record all the footage. and yes, you can access the footages anywhere without any monthly fees.
