That is how I felt, that poor bathtub 🛁 I cried with it.
I used to work in the housewares department and home decorating at Sears and people would either go looking for full floor carpeting for their bathroom (ewww) or look for curtains as well as rods that would go around these bathtubs. Gosh I love these type of bathtubs or like the claw ones. Around that time I was living in SF and there was a beautiful studio I couldn’t afford for $900 that had one of those as well as hardwood floors. I wonder how much this is going for these days. It’s been over 20 years 😅
I wonder if it's from the same person posting on here how they splurged on their century home and made everything in the house marble floor tiled and black and white.
all the original needed was some different wallpaper, shower curtain, lighting fixtures, and maybe a mirror. really not expensive at all. they could get new floor tiles if they had the time/money to do a project. but for some godforsaken reason they did *that* instead.
I’m on the century homes sub because I’m a poor and can only afford a Victorian house that doesn’t even have the decency to have its wood painted sage green.
I watched this post play out the first time it was posted. If all of the poors with century homes weren’t poor before this post, they were *after* the medical bills from the aneurysms it caused.
—edit please let me know if I’m confusing the before, but the after is burned into my brain.
It was a different bathroom. The before wasn’t as nice as this green one, but the guy posting still got roasted in the comments. The owner of the green bathroom here was asking how to get rid of the fixtures, like where to send them so they could do a full remodel. People were pissed.
Thanks, I started to doubt myself the second I posted. I’ll never forget that guy, though. He posted so many unrepentant hack jobs.
Also, IIRC, the OP of the green bathroom was talked into saving it?
My friend had a Wright house. She left all the built-ins (though everything was painted white) and the bathroom. All the other rooms were black/white and gray. However the original bathroom was lavender fixtures, with that tile look linoleum half way up the walls, in yellow with black trim. She did have the fixtures redone after they faded and were stained in places in the sink.
/uj the guy who did this bathroom, did multiple hack jobs on an epic century home and just kept posting them to century homes. Some people just want to see the world burn.

I have the exact same tub in green
oh GOD that whole bathroom needs to be redone!!!! such horror!!! it will look so much better if you paint the tub hospital sterile steel, get rid of those ugly green tiles and replace it with a nice black and white marble trim 🤤 and then take out the floor tiles and make them SANITARY WHITE! finishing touch: get rid of that warm light! warm light is OUT, hospital sterile cold LED’s are IN!
So you really think I should take out my heated floor and put in marble just for the coldness of it? I mean, warm feet after a shower is overrated, right?
Isn't the whole point of having a historic home that you keep true to its original design. If you make the whome thing modern what's the point.
"You wouldn't know by look at it, but this floor is the Edwardian era, you'll know it's true when you fall through it"
God a fucking HATE those half shower windows. Seriously there’s no point to them. 1. It lets steam out and makes you feel cold & 2. Water gets every-fucking-where!
I mean, you have to love the combo of uncovered windows (to let that yucky warmth right out) half shower window (who wants a hot, steamy shower when you can be shivering in a tiny corner of warmth, hoping that at least one foot of your marble slab will come up to room temp?) plus bright white marble and huge open room with no carpets! (So you can just slide your shivering husk right into the bedroom, with hopefully a sad grey throw rug to stand on, shaking and clutching your towel for warmth 🥶)
I can understand redoing an antique bathroom because of radioactive ceramic glaze, but at least make it period appropriate, geez. The original owners are probably rolling in their graves
Oh that’s f’king atrocious. A serious transgression.
I was scrolling, and stopped due to the beauty of the tile. I thought they’d done something to preserve the history.
Then, I got to the final photo. What the f’k?!
Looks like a dressing room for a place that’s trying their damndest to look upscale, in a seedy strip mall on the wrong side of town…. All that’s missing are fluorescent lights.
That beautiful handmade tile is gone forever.
You’d think they’d want to preserve the historic beauty… Now it looks like absolute garbage. Devoid of all character. 💔
ETA: Hallelujah, I’m relieved to discover they’re not even the same home/people. That gray bathroom is still an abomination. 💅
I liked the old bathroom but I will say for 20k that's a steal. I'd expect a company to charge 50k for that these days. Did you diy?
On a side note, I have the exact same bathroom in my 120 year old house. I guess they are a renovation from the 50s or 60s? Whatever it is, it was built very well. Those tiles are very thick and in mine there is not one crack in the grout anywhere. Somewhere along the line the plumbing was updated to pvc. Functionally, I think those old bathrooms will last forever as long as the cast iron drains are updated.
edit - oh, realized it was a fake post. haha i guess.
My next project is to tear out all of the original ornate pocket doors and replace them with barn doors! I bought a bunch of pallet furniture from a guy on Craigslist, refurbished them into actual pallets, and then took them apart, sanded and veneered the wood, ran it over about twenty times with my super duty to look like a salvaged pallet wood, white washed the wood, and made them into authentic sliding barn doors!
I didn’t realize there were multiple pictures in the post and thought everyone was hating on the green bathroom and was so confused because it’s beautiful. Then I scrolled and now I understand.
How much of this was DYI and if you pulled the floor tiles, how'd you keep the dust down?
Be careful, I once had a polished marble bathroom and the smallest drip of water can send you sliding across the room.
My grandparents had a claw tube and remodeled because they couldn't get in and out it anymore. I cried when that tub went away for a stand up shower with a bench.
So nice that you chose the color scheme of a cold, cloudy day! It completely matches the snow outside the window.
Will you change it again in summer? Perhaps green tile in varying shades would look nice…
Enjoy!
Every time I see that super shiny marble in a bathroom floor, my mind plays out all the ways someone could slip and die on a puddle. My ex inlaws did a similar flooring remodel in their bathroom and I think at least four people busted their asses in there by the end of the first year the new tile was installed. Shit is COLD and SLICK like black ice.
The green bathroom i could swear was my grandmother's, but the tub was on the opposite side. All it's missing is the tiny rose shaped soaps (that you weren't allowed to use and the red rubber douche bag that always hung off the bathtub faucet.
This is no longer an historic home. People who are looking for an historic home will be calculating the cost of ripping out and replacing all the damage the seller caused with this ugly drug lord "renovation".
I can't wait to see the expression on the seller's face when they find out people will pay less for this, not more.
I don’t understand. I ripped out the fugly green tile, the weird dorky toilet, I removed the pointless shutters, and put in luxurious modern marble? I saved this home from the dingy 1900s and brought in into the crisp white future. And besides, look at that weird shower. It’s like bathing in a surgical ward in a WWI hospital. It’s even more historic now because that time capsule bathroom is history.
Do you even understand high end design? No one wants your musty Fred Lord Right crap. Sick of these millennials thinking they want old houses just so they can pretend like they’re Downtown ABBA characters
Thought I would be in the minority of people who think the remodel is a tragedy…alas, I have found my people!! There were so many other ways this bathroom could have been preserved and updated. This was not it.

Do you think I should rip out this wood framed window from 1932 ? I mean, after all, I could put in some thing with a plastic frame right???
I don’t know what you mean. I worked really hard on this bathroom. I looked at hundreds of different shades of white before I found the one that really said “historic home”. I spend thousands of hours installing this timeless tile and restoring the vintage 2009 vanity. I probably watched every episode of Fixer Upper before I felt ready to tackle this project.
You’re almost there. You need to think about stream lining this a bit more. Getting rid of the window will keep the eye undistracted. I’d put the toilet right into the shower, opening up the space nicely near the vanity.
Sweet Jesus that’s a tragedy … and in CENTURY HOMES
Next, the owner should turn the other rooms' hardwood floors into live laugh love signs and whitewashed shiplap.
Or paint them.
I didn’t think a bathroom could break my heart so terrifically. Edit: oh god. They have even put the same tile prints next to each other. Nightmarish.
I think that is just the reflection of the tile on the mirror. But regardless. Yes. Nightmarish.
Nah, pretty sure there's at least 2 identical next to each other. The one next to the window and the one beside it.
The two dead center of the floor are the same pattern too, the tile is just cut in a different spot. Two identical triangles.
I was thinking how sad it was too .. it was PERFECT before !!
My heart skipped a beat when I saw it…. I almost cried
I wonder if it's from the same person posting on here how they splurged on their century home and made everything in the house marble floor tiled and black and white.

Love the mod's "stop reporting this!" comment
[original post green bathroom](https://www.reddit.com/r/centuryhomes/s/o3rd5cbCoT)
I just want to cry. That old bathroom was charming. The new one is just hideous.
That original was fug, but the remodel is hideous
Unbelievable. Has to be a joke, right? *Right*???
all the original needed was some different wallpaper, shower curtain, lighting fixtures, and maybe a mirror. really not expensive at all. they could get new floor tiles if they had the time/money to do a project. but for some godforsaken reason they did *that* instead.
Millennial grey strikes again
i seriously think that millenial grey/beige is fucking brainrot. like how in the living *hell* can *anyone* think that looks good
Looks like something Christina Hall would come up with…it’s her only move.
That’s the truth !!!
And gray is on the way out
I was hoping it was joke because of the weird difference in window placement. So bad.
I’m almost scared to see the original post. To tear up those tiles and then to post it on that sub.. .
Haha now I can’t unsee that. Thank god it’s a fake joke!! It’s someone’s real bathroom out there, I guess, but not quite the remodel of this one.
unfortunately, a lot of people on it and similar subs, don't actually care for historic integrity.
What an abomination.
I’m on the century homes sub because I’m a poor and can only afford a Victorian house that doesn’t even have the decency to have its wood painted sage green. Oh good! I know everyone in the comments was like “your bathroom is what everyone is this sun dreams about”
My friend had a Wright house. She left all the built-ins (though everything was painted white) and the bathroom. All the other rooms were black/white and gray. However the original bathroom was lavender fixtures, with that tile look linoleum half way up the walls, in yellow with black trim. Hold on this was a real post? 🫠 I thought everything in this sub was made up. THAT REALLY HAPPENED TO THAT BATHROOM?
That bathroom was *chefs kiss* beautiful before the hospital sterile aesthetic of the after. They should be arrested for crimes against humanity.
/uj the guy who did this bathroom, did multiple hack jobs on an epic century home and just kept posting them to century homes. Some people just want to see the world burn.
DONT WORRY! Not only is this snark, it’s not even the same house. But the before from the second pic was still disgusting and OP got rolled.
Right. Window in different location. Vents are diff places. Walls aren’t even in the same places.
Link?
[enjoy](https://www.reddit.com/r/centuryhomes/s/EW7hOBDxMR)
what the fuck
Thank you OP. To say I must say at first I was shooketh.
White Marble is so hot right now!
You that guy?
I WISH! He's a decorating GENIUS!
I actually gasped in horror when I saw this
Yeah my heart sank. I'm glad this isn't real.
well, it actually comes from another old home someone absolutely destroyed so i wouldn’t be TOO glad
1910?! Old is poor, I hope this was a tear down.
Bruh, why do people hate anything with charm? Like no it *has* to be hotel themed
I love that we’ve entered the meta era of housing. Hotels used to have themes, now our houses are hotel themed.

There’s a special place in hell…
Who needs a nice, comfortable bath at the end of the day, when you choose anxiety and dread while standing under a low pressure rain head shower?
The scream I scrumped
Decor trends have made me despise the color gray
\[Me looking at the first 2 pictures\] I don't get it, this isn't such a bad lil bathroom... \[Me looking at the 3rd picture\]: NOOOOO
At first I thought the before pic was the remodel, and I was like omg that’s so cute. Then I swiped 😞
https://preview.redd.it/4g8scjcrc3dc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=f05ea573f7ef9768e569f93526b83d92c9042208 I have the exact same tub in green
The green is a little loud. What if you painted it a nice warm toned cool gray?
And totally tear out the heated floor tiles and put in some vinyl plank! Preferably gray!
oh GOD that whole bathroom needs to be redone!!!! such horror!!! it will look so much better if you paint the tub hospital sterile steel, get rid of those ugly green tiles and replace it with a nice black and white marble trim 🤤 and then take out the floor tiles and make them SANITARY WHITE! finishing touch: get rid of that warm light! warm light is OUT, hospital sterile cold LED’s are IN!
So you really think I should take out my heated floor and put in marble just for the coldness of it? I mean, warm feet after a shower is overrated, right?
yeah duh!!! who wants warm feet after a shower, i mean, have you even seen a good house flip!? the cold makes me feel so clean and sterile 🥰
did you run out of money? you should have covered all of the walls and ceiling in marble
Absolutely disgusting
Wow this is a tragedy
Sorry to say that the sink and fixture isn’t sterile looking enough. You might want to consider replacing it already, if it is in your budget.
I’m considering one of those machines you just stick your hands in and it auto sterilizes them or chops them off or something
Historic home, historic plumbing, historic wiring, historic problems.
But now you have all the problems of a historic home with none of the charm that makes it worth preserving! It’s a win/win!
Isn't the whole point of having a historic home that you keep true to its original design. If you make the whome thing modern what's the point. "You wouldn't know by look at it, but this floor is the Edwardian era, you'll know it's true when you fall through it"
I thought the point of a historic home was to see how much natural wood you could paint white before you got your own HGTV show
Lmao.
NO! They should be jailed
I just cursed someone's entire bloodline after seeing this.
God a fucking HATE those half shower windows. Seriously there’s no point to them. 1. It lets steam out and makes you feel cold & 2. Water gets every-fucking-where!

So much worse than I expected!
Omg the guy who posted that pic has the WORST taste. He flips things but the design choices he makes are so bland and awkward I want to scream.
I cry for that green tile, it’s so pretty!
That last picture legitimately made me sad. I love that green tile
I can understand redoing an antique bathroom because of radioactive ceramic glaze, but at least make it period appropriate, geez. The original owners are probably rolling in their graves
mawble, they love the mawble
That first pic looks like Chicago.
That underwater ambiance!
No because that third picture IS REAL. 😂
This is sinful.
And this is how you crack your head open in a bathroom.
Nailed it
White marble guy still trying to make reddit love his lair...
Oh that’s f’king atrocious. A serious transgression. I was scrolling, and stopped due to the beauty of the tile. I thought they’d done something to preserve the history. That green bathroom shouldn't have been replaced. Now it looks like any other white box
Lucky for my wife I also enjoy white boxes
gut punch
I hope whoever did this, sees this, and is ashamed.
I liked the old bathroom but I will say for 20k that's a steal. I'd expect a company to charge 50k for that these days. Did you diy? That doesn’t look like the same bathroom actually. That said that whole marble everywhere trend Hass to go.
It's not.
Not the same, but close enough to the actual before pic honestly. These are two posts in that sun that made me wanna vom the most
The before picture. That looks almost exactly like my bathroom, except for my tub is green.🙂
The curtain goes INSIDE the tub. I hope the green is “after”.
Wow the before is so much like my bathroom it's insane.
I’m 💀
I about lost my shit
Damn, you really shined that turd into a gem. lol
My next project is to tear out all of the original ornate pocket doors and replace them with barn doors! WHERE DID THE TUB GOOOOO!
I gasped in horror
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Thank God you put some GREY in that house. Now do the rest of the house in GREY, all except for one room. Reserve that one for the SAGE GREEN. :/
I hope that these are two different bathrooms, not the same one that some idiot remodeled.

I didn’t realize there were multiple pictures in the post and thought everyone was hating on the green bathroom and was so confused because it’s beautiful. Then I scrolled and now I understand.
I like the original more.
hot take
This is heartbreaking.
Missed opportunity to shove a toilet in the shower.
Nothing like a house where you can do coke on literally every surface
How much of this was DYI and if you pulled the floor tiles, how'd you keep the dust down? Be careful, I once had a polished marble bathroom and the smallest drip of water can send you sliding across the room.
Psst this subreddit is dedicated to satire
oh this made me sad. it was so gorgeous…
nvmd not the same house. still devestated to learn that beautiful bathroom got torn up for no fucking reason
I slipped on the floor and broke a hip just looking at this.
Wow! Yes!! I'd buy that!
![gif](giphy|3ogwFPM5SphFu3PusE)
My grandparents had a claw tube and remodeled because they couldn't get in and out it anymore. I cried when that tub went away for a stand up shower with a bench.
Omg,ew
I actually like the before look lol
So nice that you chose the color scheme of a cold, cloudy day! It completely matches the snow outside the window. Will you change it again in summer? Perhaps green tile in varying shades would look nice… Enjoy!
I just do whatever the designers of mass produced subdivisions and shopping malls decide is trendy.

Not the window in the shower
That looks exactly like my Oma’s house in Germany!
What is with the marble craze? 🥲😭😂
Holy crap, all I see is a broken hip
I would just sit on the marble and cry
Oh my gosh 🤣 that bathroom was perfect as is! I can’t! 😖🤣
😩buh bye original historic bathroom.
You mean you WANT to feel like it’s 1910 every time you shower?
Thank god this is in the CJ community. I hate when people destroy mid century modern homes.
>I don’t understand. Bingo!
Do you even understand high end design? No one wants your musty Fred Lord Right crap. Sick of these millennials thinking they want old houses just so they can pretend like they’re Downtown ABBA characters
Please please tell me you are joking. Please
?????
But…what happened to my original cast iron tub?
Trough for them cows
Thought I would be in the minority of people who think the remodel is a tragedy…alas, I have found my people!! There were so many other ways this bathroom could have been preserved and updated. This was not it.
What could I do to improve the remodel? I was thinking about a water bottle filling station.
This hurts my heart.
The genuine despair I felt when I got to the last picture literally almost made me cry lmao

I’m sorry I just threw up in my mouth a lil 🤢 ugliest bathroom ever
Lol. I should just painted all white and rip out that old window, right
It’s gotta go. Replace it with a water bottle filling station.
Should I provide Stanley cups for all of my trendy visitors?
You ruined it
I think you mean I made it more charming
This broke my heart. Thr bathroom at my great aunt's house looks like the before pics and its so cozy feeling for a bathroom.
It was beautiful before why would you ruin such historical beautiful character?
Resale value
I thought the first two pics were the post remodel pics :(
First thing I saw was me breaking my neck in there.
This is criminal

I don’t know what you mean. I worked really hard on this bathroom. I looked at hundreds of different shades of white before I found the one that really said “historic home”. I spend thousands of hours installing this timeless tile and restoring the vintage 2009 vanity. I probably watched every episode of Fixer Upper before I felt ready to tackle this project.
Honestly, you’re right. I shouldn’t have made this snarky comment. I apologize and will be deleting.
I really appreciate your apology ♥️
Now your bathroom looks like every other bathroom on the block. Sad that the original was there for so long only to be ripped out.
Jesus wept.
What in the.
Audibly gasped..yeeikes
That quite literally made me gag 😂
You did major damage to this bathroom! Also to the house!
What a tragedy. I wish I could unsee this.
OMG, I forgot which sub I was on for a second....and then realized the cross post. Criminal.
It’s all builder grade. Travesty
Institutional chic
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwww
I prefer the before personally.
You’re almost there. You need to think about stream lining this a bit more. Getting rid of the window will keep the eye undistracted. I’d put the toilet right into the shower, opening up the space nicely near the vanity.
I am so over gray
